Dr. Jonathan Karch was born in Johnston and raised in the Des Moines area. He completed his undergraduate studies in biomedical engineering and psychology at the University of Iowa. He then remained in Iowa City to obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Karch and his wife moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he practiced asahospital dentist providing comprehensive and emergency care to the Native Alaskan and Native American populations at the Alaska Native Medical Center. Dr. Karch also made regular trips to the Aleutian island of Atka to provide care to the residents of one of the most remote communities in the United States. He still maintains his Alaska dental license and makes occasional trips to work (and play!).
Upon the birth of their first child, the Karch family returned home to Johnston. Practicing dentistry in Des Moines, Dr. Karch had the opportunity to work in great practices alongside excellent providers but always knew he wanted to establish a practice in Johnston that embodied all the principles he values.
Dr. Karch ensures that every aspect of your visit will be individually and specifically tailored to provide the most comfortable, relaxing, and productive experience possible. The compliment he values most is an anxious patient describing their dental experience as the best theyve ever had. He understands the dental office is not always the most exciting place to be and goes the extra mile every day to change that perception.
Dr. Karch loves the continual technological and material advances in dentistry and the benefits it allows him to provide his patients. Dr. Karch met his wife Danielle at the University of Iowa while she was completing her doctorate in pharmacy. Dr. Karch and Danielle are the proud parents of four little ones: Hudson, Violette, Lawson, and Hayes. They reside in Johnston and enjoy spending their time biking, camping, traveling, and spending time with family.

Stopped in for the first time this week and had a great experience. Kendre was awesome with the cleaning and Dr. Karch helped me with a quick cosmetic procedure that several other dentists told me would probably never be an option which gave me a huge confidence boost. I'll be back and recommend the Dental Studio for anyone looking for a great dentist!

I believe I have made a great move. I was ready to make a change to a new dentist. Julie, the hygienist was very thorough, personable and did a great job cleaning my teeth. Dr. Elmitt was also very thorough and I am actually looking forward to a return visit in 6 months. Very nice office with very friendly and helpful staff!!

I was apprehensive about my first appointment at The Dental Studio of Iowa since my former dentist of nearly 30 years had retired, but I needn't have been! The facility is lovely, clean and inviting. My hygienist was personable and made me feel comfortable right away. She was thorough, informative yet careful. I highly recommend Dr. Elmitt as well! Great "bedside" manner and seems to really care about his patients.

We recently moved to the area and we're trying to decide on which dental office to try. This office happened to be nearby and after reading all the five star reviews online, we decided to give them a try. My husband went for his first checkup there today and was very pleased with his entire experience. Beautiful office, friendly staff, a cleaning comparable to the excellent ones we were accustomed to, and a thorough exam. We are so happy to have found our new dental office so quickly!

Everyone at this establishment is very friendly and helpful. My hygienist, Alex, is the best hygienist I've ever had! Both the hygienists and dentists explain everything thoroughly in an easy to understand manner. They are also fantastic with children. They showed each tool to my 2 year old and let her touch them before they used them. They even "cleaned" her dolls teeth. The whole process went so well and we always look enjoy our time there.

What a great experience I had at The Dental Studio! The cleanliness and friendliness stood out to me, from the time I arrived, until the time I left!
