Dr. James Powell hales from West Valley City, UT. He graduated from Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho), and from Utah State University. From there he attended the University of Michigan where he received a doctorate degree in dentistry in 2007. In between living in these frigid environments of Idaho, Northern Utah, and Michigan he served an LDS mission in the tropical islands of the Philippines, where he came to the realization that a long cold winter is not necessary for enjoyment of life.
His first year out of dental school was spent in a residency program for Advanced Education in General Dentistry studying and practicing all aspects of family dentistry with rotations through orthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry. He then spent an additional three years practicing dentistry in the US Army in Georgia, during which time he deployed to Iraq and served for a year as the brigade dentist of the 1st HBCT, 3ID.
Outside of dentistry he also enjoys working in local youth soccer and scout programs. He loves to read, especially classic novels. Most of all he enjoys spending time with his wife and kids camping, hiking, canoeing, backpacking, and going to the beach.
Mischa has several years experience working in the medical field and is excited about being part of the team. Mischa moved to Hurricane in 2016 to be closer to family and escape big city life. Mischa enjoys outdoor activities such as Riding UTVs, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and hiking.
Tom is our Hygienist! Tom moved here from Ithaca, NY in 2016 with his wife and two kids.He is well-rounded and has had other professions including painting, auto body work, and heavy equipment operation, prior to pursuing dental hygiene.His passion for the outdoors and desire to live in a warmer climate led him to Hurricane.In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking, jet skiing, and exploring everything this area has to offer.He looks forward to meeting new people and hearing their stories while providing the highest quality of care.
Cass grew up in good old Hurricane Utah! She loves spending time with her family and being outdoors. Cass has enjoyed working in different areas of the dental field including building dental appliances in a lab, oral and facial surgery and her favorite- assisting in dental procedures! She enjoys meeting and helping all of our patients while ensuring they get the best and kindest care possible!

I work seasonally in Northern Arizona. My first experience with Zion Dental was last summer when I developed a sudden painful toothache. I called and was able to get an appointment quickly. As it turned out I needed a complicated root canal and Dr Powell referred me to an excellent facility in St George. This year another toothache and again the staff worked me in as soon as possible. This time an extraction was needed. Dr. Powell did an amazing job! The entire staff is friendly and professional and immediately put you at ease. It's incredibly stressful to search for a dentist on the road. You can trust this team to do what is best for you, and be treated as a valuable person instead of a number. I highly recommend Zion Dental.

I love the staff and Dr. Powell because they are personable, professional and considerate of my time. I work graveyards and I only had to mention this to them one time and they remember to schedule me for early mornings on certain days of the week in order to accommodate to my personal life. This alone made me feel very cared for and comfortable. Dr. Powell is very nice and makes me laugh, that along with his awesome staff, wonderful hygienist and calm atmosphere has made me rethink the way I use to feel about going to the dentist! You guys rock!!

Dr Powell and his staff were great. I was able to get in quickly for an appointment when I had some tooth pain. He gave me my options, laid out what to expect, and checked in with me the day after getting a tooth removed. He was great with the procedure, making my comfort a top priority.

Both my son and I went in for a simple filing. I had to go back a second time because his assistant did a horrible job on the filing. He drilled it all out, and I think more, as that tooth has been sensitive ever since. My boys tooth has also been super sensitive since, and got so bad while on vacation, we had to schedule an emergency visit. The dentist said it looked like the feeling was right on the nerve, and he would now need a root canal. Horrible dentist and staff! Advise stay away!

My husband had a crown come off and went to Zion Dental for help. The crown was put back in crooked and was loose. He called to see if he could it corrected he was told "once you walk out the door your done" Extremely poor quality and refused to make it right

I had a horrible toothache. I went and saw Dr Powell .He was very personable and friendly . I ended up having to have a tooth pulled and it was the first time getting a shot in my mouth did not hurt terribly.. I would recommend him he's great

I am terrified of the dentist and usually dread going to the dentist, but Dr Powell and his staff at Zion Dental are amazing! They did a really great job of explaining the health of my teeth and gums to me, recommending great products to help with my cotton mouth, and making sure I felt comfortable. They are also great conversationalists and truly seem to care about their patients. I highly recommend them!

Been a patient since I first moved to area. Have lived in big cities and suburbs and experienced many different dentists/practices. This one is superb....not only in location (middle of town and right across from the police station), but more importantly the dentist, Dr. Powell, and each of his staff are simply the most professional, friendly and kind bunch of people I've ever met working well together in one office. The quality of dental services is top notch and the office decor is lively, fun and interesting. Prices are very competitive and fair. Don't hesitate to experience this STUPENDOUS practice!
