[rehabtabs] [rehabtab title='Preventive Dentistry'] Preventive Dentistry Our goal is to improve your dental health for a lifetime. The best way for dental health is prevention of dental problems in the first place. This involves education on best practices to maintain gum health and cavity/decay prevention. We are happy to give you all the information and services you need. For those who wish we offer xylitol sweetened products, sealants, fluoride varnish, prescription strength mouthrinse, interdental brushes, and more. For most people we recommend a low abrasive toothpaste like Tom 's of Maine, Arm & Hammer 's Sensitive, or Sensodyne 's ProNamel (their website has useful information: www.pronamel.us)

The global toothpaste market is set to hit 15 billion dollars by 2015. If you are like most patients looking for the best the industry has to offer; but are overwhelmed by the options, then look no further. Dr. Zervas and his team have done the leg-work for you. A ground-breaking product line, developed by world renowned caries researcher and practicing dentist for 30 years Dr. Kim Kutch, is now available in the office. The products are unlike any other on the market as they utilize all 5 key ingredients shown to manage tooth decay. Those components are:

Find easy implementation of caries risk assessment and unique neutralizing pH+ products.[/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='Crowns'] Crowns Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatment, or when a large filling wears out. The larger the hole made by a cavity that has to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Even after a filling is put in a large cavity, a tooth is more likely to break. Keep in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth are subjected to tremendous pressures. Crowns ride over the weakened tooth, providing strength and protecting the tooth against breakage. A broken or cracked tooth is a far more serious matter and much more difficult to treat. Crowns prevent this, as well as making for a nice smile. [/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='Dentures'] Dentures There are different types of dentures, but they share their common function. They replace teeth that have become loose or been lost due to bone loss. When bone loss around the roots of teeth is great enough to loosen them or let them fall out, its time for dentures. Relax. No one enjoys losing their natural teeth, but you can still eat and talk regularly.

The entire mouth is examined and a determination is made as to which teeth will have to be removed, and which will remain. The loose teeth are then extracted. Dentures are fitted to go over or around whatever teeth remain in the mouth, depending on the type. There is an adjustment period after dentures are placed in the mouth, and it can take some getting used to. But once accustomed to the dentures, all the normal functionality and appearance return and one just carries on as usual. Often implants can used to further stabilize the dentures. [/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='Root Canal Treatment'] Root Canal Treatment Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is made necessary when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to this pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect problems early) Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal therapy, also. Once this occurs the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess). By the time the pulp is infected it must be treated, and cannot heal on its own. It can even weaken the entire immune system. This is dangerous, not to mention very painful. Symptoms that the pulp has become infected may include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Sometimes, however, no symptoms are apparent and the person is unaware of any problem until a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clean out the infected tooth pulp, and disinfect the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. Once the infection is resolved, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any further infection. Usually a core build-up and crown is recommended for restoring a tooth that has had root canal therapy. [/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='Bridges'] Bridges This is an option for filling the space created by a missing tooth. It is formed to look like the missing tooth, and it takes its place in the mouth. The sides of a bridge use the two surrounding teeth for support, hence the name. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Bridge work is as much an art as it is an exact science. The materials used may be gold alloys, porcelain bonded to metal alloy, or all ceramic material. The choice of material depends on requirements for strength, wear, and/or esthetics.

It is important that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible for several reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the gap begin to shift inward, creating a whole chain reaction of bad things. Teeth use their neighbors for support, and, with one missing, they start to fall. As this worsens the bite changes in response to the pressure. This can eventually result in problems with the entire jaw, e.g.TMJ. The surrounding teeth deteriorate and it is just a matter of time before they, too, are lost. Gum disease becomes a serious problem, with the difficulty of treatment increasing as the neglect continues. [/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='Bonding'] Bonding Bonding is the method by which tooth colored dental restorations are placed on teeth. We utilize the Re-Gen bonding system which offers the highest bond strengths ever achieved and is the new gold standard in dental adhesion.

This results in achieving long lasting restorations that also maintain their beauty without dark lines. [/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='SMART Amalgam Removal'] SMART Amalgam Removal We are an amalgam free practice and all fillings we place are white.

The IAOMT is a network of dental, medical and research professionals who seek to raise the standards of scientific biocompatibility in dental practice with information from the latest interdisciplinary research.

We also offer Panorex and CBCT x-ray systems, which are taken from outside the mouth and is easier than the inside the mouth x-rays. CBCT is a 3 dimensional x-ray system that allows for greater diagnosis and compliments dental care.

We use the As Low As Reasonably Achievable principle to keep radiation doses as low as possible and minimize the use of x-rays. [/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='Cancer Screening'] Cancer Screening We have available Oral Cancer screening with VELscope technology that helps visualize oral tissue abnormalities and pre-cancer. [/rehabtab] [rehabtab title='CEREC'] CEREC is a dental restoration product that allows a dental practitioner to produce an indirect ceramic dental restoration using a variety of computer assisted technologies, including 3D photography and CAD/CAM. With CEREC, teeth can be restored in a single sitting with the patient, rather than the multiple sittings required with earlier techniques. Additionally, with the latest software and hardware updates, crowns, veneers, onlays and inlays can be prepared, using different types of ceramic material.

The cavity preparation is first photographed and stored as a three dimensional digital model and proprietary software is then used to approximate the restoration shape using biogeneric comparisons to surrounding teeth. The practitioner then refines that model using 3D CAD software. When the design phase is complete, the information is sent wirelessly to the milling unit which mills the actual restoration from a solid block of material using diamond burs. The restoration is bonded to the tooth using a resin cement which bonds to both the restoration as well as the tooth itself.

The treating dentist prepares the tooth being restored either as a crown, inlay, onlay or veneer. The tooth is then powder sprayed with a thin layer of blue anti-reflective contrast medium, imaged by a 3D imaging camera and uploaded to the CEREC computer. Using the proprietary CEREC software in various modes, a restoration can be designed to restore the tooth to its appropriate form and function. This data on this restoration is stored in a file and is sent via wireless serial transmission or direct wiring to a milling machine. The restoration can then be milled out of a solid ceramic or composite block. Milling time varies from as little as four minutes to as long as twenty depending on the complexity of the restoration and the version of the milling unit.

Friendly staff and great care. Dr. Zervas was able to save a tooth that my other dentist wanted to extract and replace with an implant. Very skilled dentist and able to take care of smaller cavities with a laser and no need for an anesthetic! Thank you for your great care Dr Zervas and staff!!

I just had my first appointment at Dr. Zervas' office. I have to say that this was the BEST experience I have EVER had at a dentist office! I've had difficulties at previous dentist offices that were not very accommodating to my medical needs and treated me like I was a pain they had to deal with but EVERYONE at Dr. Zervas' office welcomed me so warmly, treated me with such respect, and made me feel so comfortable, especially Nathalie, Jessica, and Dr. Zervas. They were so accommodating of my medical needs and my anxiety about the appointment. I would highly recommend them to anyone, especially if you are anxious about dentists or have had bad experiences with them previously. These people are truly amazing!

I was a patient at this practice for about a year while I was temporarily living near Greenfield. Dr. Zervas and his staff were always kind and attentive during my appointments. Unfortunately, I recently moved and my new dentist confirmed something I was afraid of: an earlier root canal (from right before I moved to the Greenfield area) was never capped with a crown. I had asked Dr. Zervas about this when I first joined as a patient, but for some reason he dismissed it. The new dentist caught it right away, but unfortunately it may be too late now to save my tooth. Furthermore, Dr. Zervas' office has refused to send my records and X-rays to my new dentist. I have reached out and asked via phone, text, emails, and secure message service, and each time they promise to send the records, but don't. My new dentist has also tried contacting them multiple times. It's totally bizarre. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend Dr. Zervas.
