Dr. Kendra Zappia grew up locally in Mechanicville and graduated from Mechanicville High School. She received her B.S. in Biology, cum laude, while serving as class president for four years at Siena College. Dr. Zappia attended the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and received her D.D.S. degree, cum laude. While in dental school, Dr. Zappia was awarded the Academy Of Dentistry For Persons With Disabilities Award and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry Award for her involvement in establishing the Buffalo chapter of Special Olympics Special Smiles volunteer group. Upon graduating from dental school, Dr. Zappia completed a residency program in Advanced Education of General Dentistry through Lutheran Medical Center.
Dr. Zappia started as an associate with the private practice of Esmay and Karol in 2006 and formed Kendra J. Zappia DDS LLC in 2009, where she continues to proudly treat the patients of Dr. Kampf and Dr. Karol. Dr. Zappia also serves as an adjunct instructor in Hudson Valley Community Colleges dental hygiene department where she teaches dental materials, radiology, tooth morphology, and clinical application.
Dr. Zappia is an active member of the Third District Dental Society, having served as the Chair of the New Dentist Committee; the New York State Dental Association, having served as the Chairperson for the New Dentist Committee of New York State; and the American Dental Association, where she served as the New York State representative to the ADA New Dentist Committee.
Dr. Zappia was awarded the William B. Smith Award from the Third District Dental Society in 2014 for continued involvement in organized dentistry, continued education and displaying the highest of ethical standards. In 2020 she received the Feldman Hunn Medal of Merit in recognition of her exceptional leadership and munificent dedication to the perfection of the art and science of dentistry.
She currently serves as the Third District Membership and Communications Chairperson and is a member of the Third District Continuing Education Committee. Dr. Zappia also represents the Third District as a delegate for NYSDA House of Delegates. She currently serves on NYSDA's Council for Membership and Communications. Dr. Zappia was recently inducted as a fellow into the Pierre Fauchard Academy to recognize her leadership in the dental profession and community.
Dr. Zappia was also the Radiology Co-Chair for New York State's Mission of Mercy held at Hudson Valley Community College, which provided free dental treatment to those in need. Dr. Zappia is involved with the Arthritis Foundation and serves on the NENY Local Leadership Board and has run several marathons and half-marathons for charities. She and her husband, Graig, live in the Capital Region with their three children.

Dr. Fryer also grew up in Mechanicville and attended Siena College where she earned a degree in Biology, cum laude. She followed in her sisters footsteps and attended the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and received her D.D.S. Degree, cum laude. Dr. Fryer completed a General Practice Residency at St. Peters Hospital.
Dr. Fryer is a member of the NYSDA New Dentist Committee, Third District Dental Society, New York State Dental Society, and the American Dental Association. She currently serves as the Third District New Dentist Chairperson and is a member of the NYSDA New Dentist Committee.
Dr. Fryer is honored to practice with her sister, Dr. Zappia, and their team. She is also an adjunct instructor in Hudson Valley Community Colleges dental hygiene department where she teaches radiology and clinical application. Dr. Fryer resides locally with her husband, Bret, and their baby boy. She enjoys rooting for the Buffalo Bills, running in races, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Karol retired from dentistry in 2016, but he is still an important part of our practice. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA., Dr Karol received his B.S. degree from Allegheny College and his D.M.D degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. After two years as a Captain with the US Army MEDDAC at Laflamme Army Dental Clinic, Fort Bragg, NC, he joined the general practice of Richard F Esmay, DDS at 1424 Western Avenue in Albany in 1973. In 1980 the practice name was changed to Richard F Esmay, DDS & John E Karol Jr DMD PC. After Dr Esmay retired in July 2001, Dr Karol continued as President and senior partner until December 31, 2010. Beginning in January 2011 he joined his former associate, Kendra J. Zappia, DDS, in her practice here at Pine West Plaza, as a large portion of his patients followed.
Dr Karol and his wife, Diane, have four adult children and live in Clifton Park. They spend as much time as possible traveling together. When at home he loves golf, computers and audio-video equipment, caring for his almost 30 year old sports car and following the Pittsburgh sports teams.
Dr Karol was honored to practice with Dr Zappia. She has made it possible for him to, along with her, continue to provide the same caring, conservative, ethical and professional dental services begun over 50 years ago at 1424 Western Avenue.
Clarissa grew up in New Hampshire and graduated with an AAS degree from Hudson Valley Community College Department of Dental Hygiene as a registered dental hygienist. She has been treating patients in this location since September 2005. Clarissa enjoys working one on one with patients, providing education and therapeutic preventive dental care. Patient centered care and meeting each patients dental health needs are her priority. Clarissa resides locally with her husband and four children.
Lisa is from New Hampshire. She moved to New York over a decade ago and now considers the Capital Region her home. Lisa received a BA in Music Industry from SUNY Oneonta in 2007 and earned her AAS in Dental Hygiene and certification in anesthesia from Hudson Valley Community College in 2015. Lisa's favorite part of working as a dental hygienist is connecting with patients and assisting them on their way to optimal oral health using a team approach. Lisa enjoys traveling to new places and walking with her dog, Hannah.
Stacy grew up in Cohoes and graduated from the Hudson Valley Community College Dental Assisting Program. She enjoys interacting with her patients and helping them feel at ease, and keeps the team energetic (and fed). Stacy is an avid fisher-woman, she enjoys working out, and spending time with her husband.
Anita is our office coordinator and graduated from SUNY Cobleskill and MVCC/Utica College. She has twenty years of dental experience in dental business management, insurances, and benefits. Anita loves getting to know our patients and goes above and beyond to help them with their treatment needs. Anita is married to Dave, and they have two sons, David and Chase. David is a rising country star and you can find Anita attending his many gigs across the country as well as in the Capital Region. Anita enjoys decorating, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Ashley is a graduate of the University of Tampa with a bachelors in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. After graduation, she returned to the capital district where she began her career in medical billing. Ashley enjoys traveling and going on adventures with her husband, Stan.
