Our practice has been serving the Southwest Virginia community for more than 65 years! Dr. Grant Throckmorton's grandfather started the practice back in 1952. His father joined in 1980, and the practice was eventually purchased in 1987 by he and Dr. Copenhaver. Dr. Grant Throckmorton joined the practice in 2017 and recently purchased the practice from Dr. Copenhaver. Together Dr. Copenhaver & Dr. Throckmorton plan to continue a longstanding tradition of serving Wytheville, Wythe County, and the surrounding areas of Southwest Virginia with the same excellent family dentistry that has been established for generations.
Wythe Family Dentistry is located not far from Wytheville Community College, just off of Peppers Ferry Rd. on Loretto Drive. The nearest major intersection is where I-77 and I-88 merge. If you get off the freeway onto Peppers Ferry Rd., drive southwest for approximately 3 mins until you hit Loretto Drive. We'll be the second right you can take, with the building facing the drive and signage out front.
Dr. Throckmorton followed in his grandfather (Dr. O.J. Campbell) and fathers (Dr. Dennis Throckmorton) footsteps into the dental profession. He received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech in 2008 and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in 2017. Dr. Throckmorton is honored to continue the legacy that his family has built in serving the Southwest Virginia community for over 65 years.
After becoming Dental Assisting certified Dr. Copenhaver went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in 1977 from Old Dominion University. Shortly after, he pursued his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree which he earned in 1984 from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. He joined Dr. Campbell and Dr. Throckmorton thereafter.

I recently went for my regular cleaning and as usual my experience was as pleasant as it can be going to the dentist. This office is run so efficiently and all the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Throckmorton should be very proud!

I am so glad I found this dentist! I hated going to the dentist so bad in the past that I only went when I had a tooth ache to have a tooth pulled. Once I met this dentist that changed! I have been to him more in the past 2 years than I have ever been in my life, and due to that I have a lot of work I need done if I am going to save the teeth I have left. This dentist is gentle and thorough! He is also funny, which also helps me! His staff are the best! Everyone is always so nice to me! And even though they have a booked schedule they run like a well oiled machine! I never have to wait long and they always do a great job!!! (They play the best mix of music too! )

I have waited to write a review because I wanted to give a honest one. So I have been here two times in the last two years. The office is very clean and comfortable. I had a cleaning and exam that was around 300.00 cash for a first time patient that included all X-rays,cleaning,sewing de.th rock Morton and special toothpaste. I came in because I had a filling cracked and I just KNEW I'd have to get a crown everywhere else was saying I would so I was prepared for the worst even the hygienist said she thought so to. So after my X-rays dentist came in and he introduced his self we joked a bit and I waited for the news he looked at my tooth while I'm shaking in the chair and he says "well I can fix that with a filling" and I was shocked I came back in to get it fixed and he really took the time with me telling me to bring head phones so I didn't hear the drill and made sure I was ok with my numbing before he went on. He told me he would give it a bit longer and went out then came back joking along the way and making this whole experience wonderful. I will be a life long patient. I didn't feel a thing and I always have to be numbed up sooo much. My husband came in for a cleaning as well and it was good now that I have a new job I believe we have insurance to cover coming for the rest of my career and I'm bringing all 4 of my girls. They do that certain insurances but I believe it's worth it in cash if you don't have the insurance. The office staff were also so helpful and I have been waiting to write this review because Dr.Throckmorton is a AMAZING dentist and he deserves the credit at what he does! What a great family to have found! Life long patient! Thank you again
