I highly recomment Dr. Wych. The entire staff was wonderful, from the moment I called in for an emergeny appointment to the "Thank You" card that I recieved in the mail after my emergency procedure. I will most definitely return.

I have had extensive dental work my entire life as I have soft sensitive teeth. I always dreaded going to the dentist and required double Novocain. Since moving to the Columbia area 12 years ago I have struggled to find a dentist that I was comfortable. My husband had a sedation procedure performed at The Art of Denistry with Dr. Wych. I was very impressed with the entire facility and the staff. Dr. Wych came and met with my personally after my husbands procedure explained everything that had occurred and making sure I had no questions. He then followed up with a personal call to my husband later that night. When it was time for me to get dental work done this time I chose Dr. Wych. Not only did I receive a personal call from Dr. Wych welcoming me to his practice but when I had my exam he and his staff were and are very personable and caring. Every other dentist I had seen in the Columbia area had been very condescending. Dr. Wych and his staff are the complete opposite. I chose to have my procedures to be performed under sedation. The outcome of the work is AMAZING! I was once told by a dentist that I would never had beautiful straight or white teeth. Well I am here to say Dr. Wych and his staff made it happen! I am thrilled with my new beautiful straight white smile! Even my son commented to me via FaceTime "Mom your teeth are now AWESOME." My confidence level has risen tenfold as a result. If you are looking for a caring, personable and genuine Dentist my husband and I personally recommend Dr. Wych and his ENTIRE staff at Art of Dentistry. I have found my new Dental home finally! I just regret not finding him sooner!! Thank you Dr. Wych and your staff from the bottom of my heart. I lOVE to smile now!

A superficial surface chip on a filling turned major expense because of Dr. Wych. After repairing the chipped filling, the bite was very painful. I was told to wait a few more days for pain to subside. When I insisted I couldn't take the pain, I was finally given an appointment only to learn the tooth was now cracked and I had a full blown infection. It took weeks for the infection to clear. Now I needed a root canal and crown for that cracked tooth-also at my expense. On a subsequent checkup, he diagnosed me with a horizontally fractured tooth. I opted for implant rather than a bridge, not knowing he wasn't competent to do the implant surgery. In all fairness, he offered to refer me or do it himself. I thought this meant he was properly trained to do such a surgery. He used an injection to numb the surgical area rather than anesthesia as an orthodontic surgeon would. The bone graft didn't take properly and so the implant failed - twice - because the bone graft he did wasn't properly done (twice). Upon removing the 2nd failed implant and early into the implant removal surgery, he got careless and rushed and excised an excessive amount of gum tissue carving out the implant from my gum with a scalpel. He then tried to convince me that the failed implants were due to me having poor bone density - implying zero culpability. He stated I should consider a bridge since I am not a good candidate for implants after all. (I didn't want a bridge to start with because a bridge would cost me two healthy teeth on either side of the failed tooth to hang the bridge). Fortunately, I sought a 2nd opinion because I no longer felt I could trust him and was angry and mortified at the gaping disfigured area he created when he excised an excessive amount of gum tissue digging out the failed implant. I found a competent oral surgeon who said my bone density was healthy and confirmed I am indeed a good candidate for the implant surgery. Dr. Lemon did my bone graft and subsequent implant surgery with zero complications -- 100% success -- but the gum tissue Wych aggressively removed is not repairable without costly gum graft surgery. By then, it was 2yrs out from the first surgery with Dr. Wych and the original implant surgery was supposed to be $11K. By the time I withstood a total of 3 implant surgeries, I am out $27K and now have a costly gum graft surgery to pay for as well, with many painful visits in my future. As a general dentist, there are better, more ethical dentists that will provide dental care. If there is any complexity to your dental needs, please do get a second opinion. There are many forms of specialized dental care that Wych offers but is not competent in because his training in these areas are the result of very short seminars offered at resorts. That kind of training simply does not compare to the genuine practitioners who have completed the formal education: typically years of education in their respective specialty. Common sense should have dictated that if there is a formal education and license to do a specialized area of care (i.e. endodontics, periodontics, orthodontic surgery, orthodontia, etc.), I would have been wise to seek those providers as a priority than rely on someone trained as a general dentist practitioner who will use patients for his learning curve and doesn't have that level of specialized competency and/or years of education/training in the specialty areas of dentistry s/he offers. I think the SC laws governing this need to be changed so patients aren't put at risk. It cost me thousands of dollars over the original surgery, subjecting me to more pain than I ever knew. My gum line is horribly disfigured showing the fully exposed length of the tooth and I need to spend thousands of dollars more for gum graft surgery. I regret that I didn't choose at the onset a properly trained endodontist for my root canal/crown and orthodontic surgeon for my implant surgery. Wych also ground down my molars without my permission. I see does this quite regularly to female PTs. Very expensive and painful lesson learned.

I'm traveling from out of town, when yesterday my crown came uncemented. My daughter called her dentist, Dr Wych. His friendly staff was able to schedule an appointment today. Dr. Wych phoned me last night to welcome me. Never have I had a dentist call me the night before an appointment. My crown has been recemented. I'm very grateful and impressed with his friendly and efficient staff and his caring professionalism.

Dr. Wych was fined $10,000 by the SC Labor, Licensing, and Regulation in August 2015 for advertising specialization of services in a "false, misleading, and deceptive manner." His practice was on probation for five years (2015-2020). I don't know what happened to my original Google review (attached as photos) but an UPDATED response to Dr. Wych's response: Concerning his LLR board orders (August 27, 2015), Dr. Wych is not telling the whole truth. His board orders are public and I highly recommend anyone considering using him to read them. His board orders proved that his claims to specialize in children's dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and sedation dentistry were in violation of the Dental Practice Act because he gave "an impression, unsupported by fact, of specialization in a false deceptive, or misleading manner." Another thing that concerns me is that Dr. Wych changes the name of his practice every few years (Illumination MedSpa, 2014 and Vista Smiles, 2018). As with all patients, my "expectation" was to go to a licensed dental professional who would NOT physically harm me. Dr. Wych hurt me. He blames the vibration of the laser but the Biolase Laser website states that "the laser does not generate heat, vibration, or pressure." I honestly feel he did NOT take the time or care needed to treat my tooth, and was EXCESSIVE and FORCEFUL with his treatment. I have had pain in my tooth and jaw ever since he performed the filling over 2 months ago. When I made my appointment, I was told that he would have to reexamine my tooth because it had been over a year since our initial consultation (because of Covid) which I agreed to. Dr. Wych NEVER reexamined my tooth. I know this because I was wearing my mask the whole time I was in his office. As soon as I took off my mask, he started lasering my tooth. Dr. Wych did NOT explain the procedure or any of the tools he would be using that day on me. Dr. Wych wrote he had to use a drill tool to "polish" the filling. It felt like a tooth grinder. I have NEVER had this tool used on me before. One of the benefits of the laser is that it doesn't have any friction or vibration on the tooth. Dr. Wych using the tooth grinder to "polish" the filling absolutely negated this benefit. The filling is NOT "polished" but instead has a gritty, rough texture. Dr. Wych was very AGGRESSIVE and FORCEFUL in using this tooth grinder. He ground down my tooth significantly. Dr. Wych used the tooth grinder on the SIDE of my tooth. I have NO cavity/decay or filling on the SIDE of my tooth! This is why I feel violated - I did not ask for my tooth to be reshaped. I came in for treatment of a cavity on the biting surface of my molar. I did NOT consent for him to reshape my tooth. Just because he had access for one type of treatment does not allow him to do whatever he wants to my teeth. I am very upset that he ground away the healthy part of my tooth. When I tried to let him know he was hurting me, he doubled down and used BOTH hands to press down HARDER with the tooth grinder to try to finish quicker instead of stopping. Dr. Wych shaping my tooth has caused me SEVERE PAIN. My normal dentist said it looked like he used a tool to slice off tiny slivers of my tooth enamel like a potato peeler. The side of my tooth has a rough texture now. For weeks after this procedure, any time I used regular mint toothpaste my tooth felt like it was BURNING and I could only use Sensodyne. He was so FORCEFUL that BOTH my tooth and jaw hurts to this day. Any time there is the slightest pressure on the side of my tooth, like from brushing my teeth, my tooth and jaw aches. Going to Dr. Wych for this filling has been the WORST dental experience. It was extremely PAINFUL and TRAUMATIZING. I was already a fearful patient - that was why I sought out the laser and was willing to pay more for the treatment. Because of this experience with Dr. Wych, I am now TERRIFIED of any future dental treatment. Even more so now than before, I do NOT recommend him. I have never had a dentist be so rough with my teeth.

This practice is about flash, not about care. X-rays from my dentist in a new state reveal significant overextension of of fill material into the gum from a root canal "performed" by Dr. Wych, making professional endodontic evaluation and potential surgery now necessary. Admin in this office is so strikingly poor that it required 3 requests to have my dental records transferred to the new dentist, and even then, they actually emailed them a page of unlabeled X-rays with no identifying information whatsoever. They provide truly abysmal customer care, especially once you leave them. Please consider. another practitioner for serious dental concerns (run).

I work with H.M. in the field of higher education. As her coworker, I can attest that she has needlessly suffered pain due to Wych's incompotence. She went in for a simple procedure, but, Wych, took it upon himself to grind one of her teeth down without her permission. As a result, H.M. has been in pain for a month after her visit. This has been a very tramatizing experience for H.M. I would give zero stars writing this review if I could. I would avoid Wych at all cost. Instead, find a dentist that will listen to you, and not one that takes it upon himself to cause unnecessary and lifelong damage.

Dr. Wych has a "State of the Art" facility to provide quality dental care to his patients. The facility is thoroughly cleaned to prevent the spread of any infectious pathogens (including COVID) along with filtering the office air to provide surgically purified air usually only found in operating rooms. His staff are extremely competent and provide first rate patient care. Dr Wych stays current with the latest dental advances to insure I get the best solution to the dental needs I have had over the years. I have been a patient since 2004. I highly recommend The Art of Dentistry.
