Dr. Cheryl Mitchell grew up in Hadley, Michigan. From the time she was old enough to go to the dentist, she knew she wanted to be a dentist! Dr. Cheryl attended the University of Michigan-Flint and Lake Superior State University for her undergraduate studies. Throughout high school and college she had the opportunity to work at her mother's Montessori preschool as a teacher's aide, which fostered her love of children. After graduating from the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry in 1998 as the youngest female student in her class, she relocated to the Higgins Lake area.
In 2004 she married Roscommon native, Tim McCarthy. Together we have four children- Dylan, Carter, Brandon, and Gracie ranging from elementary to high school age. The kids keep their parents busy with sports and school activities. In her spare time Dr. Cheryl enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, boating, and spending time with her family at their cottage in Mackinaw City.
I am originally from downstate where I graduated from Lapeer West High School and went on to the University of Michigan. I have lived in this area for almost 18 years. My time is spent with a very active family. We enjoy all sports and outdoor activities. Our blended family of eight makes up a great team!
I spent several years working as an administrative assistant for the Anesthesia group in the Detroit Medical Center, while completing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In 1998, I relocated from Ann Arbor to the Higgins Lake area with my husband Len and daughter Kristina. With a love for giving patients the understanding and care they deserve and a passion to want to make a difference, I find myself enjoying each and every day working with a team of professionals. When I'm not working, I enjoy gardening, relaxing and spending time with my family and dog Rocky.
I graduated from Delta College in 2004 with a degree in dental hygiene and an associates degree in business management. I am married to a dairy farmer and together we have four children. We reside in Sterling. Life on the farm with four children can be pretty busy, but with our spare time we love to garden and raise pheasants. Most recently I have become the Pheasant 4-H leader in Arenac County. So far within the last three years my children and I have released over 600 pheasants.

Had my first appointment here today, the entire staff was amazing! From checking in, to the appt, and scheduling my next visit. Let's face it, the dentist isn't exactly everyone's favorite place. Here I felt safe, listened to, and very well accommodated.

As a new patient, I could not be more impressed. From the minute the phone was answered when I booked my appointment to when I left, I found the staff and Dr. Cheryl to be extremely professional and kind. I'm thrilled to call Woodland Family Dental my new dentist!!

I had an existing crown (from another dentist, from some years back) that came off, expectantly. I was happy that when I got in, Dr. Cheryl was able to clean up my crown and verify that my tooth was good for replacing the crown. It went on without a problem and I feel it was placed even better than when it was originally seated on the tooth. It feels great and I couldn't be happier. So happy that I picked Dr. Cheryl's office for our new dentist when we moved to northern Michigan. Dr. Cheryl and her staff have been great.

I'm terrified to go to the dentist but they were kind and gentle. I won't hesitate (as long) to make my next appointment. I would give 6 stars if I could.

Great experience, they get right down to business. My previous dentist required multiple weeks/appointments to get work started and completed, making it very inconvenient for anyone who has a job. Dr. Mitchell handled my first appointment like my time was valuable and she didn't want to waste it.They also provide upfront pricing, so you aren't surprised with an outrageous bill a week after work is completed. I think I have found my new dentist.
