Terrible experience and service! From the minute I entered the office I had a bed feeling. The office itself has a strange vibe and doesn't feel professional. However, the lost upsetting thing happened two weeks after I visited there I was charged more than $300 without any notification. When I called for explication I was told that prices went up after I visited?!?! So they changed me extra!!! This was the most bizarre and unprofessional response and I told them that there is an agreement and they can't just change prices. After that they said that they will change me only half the price because the insurance only covered up to a certain price however I already paid in the office what they said I should pay based on insurance coverage and I specifically asked how they estimated that and was told that they are charging me the maximum! And I may even get a refund which I the reason I agreed to the treatment. Anyway of course I was still not even refunded half the amount that I was charged. They should be ashamed!!! Do not recommend at all most terrible experience I ever had at a dentist office!

I'd call your insurance company to confirm that this office is IN NETWORK. I called this office prior to visiting to make sure they took my insurance and they assured me I was covered. Upon a preventative cleaning and fillings THEY suggested I get, I am now seeing claims on my insurance company that they are OUT OF NETWORK. Upon calling the office to ask them about this the girl on the phone was fumbling over her words and specifically told me that they are trained to tell people their insurance is taken but never mention the words "IN NETWORK". They are in fact NOT in contract with any major insurance companies. Although they had somewhat decent customer service they are intentionally not communicating with patients transparently in regards to insurance coverage. Make sure to call and check your insurance company DIRECTLY and don't rely on this office or Zocdoc (which is inaccurate) for reliable information. They're only in the business of overselling you services and lying to you to get your money. Awful practice with no integrity to clients AT ALL. Avoid going here no matter what you do. EDIT: The owner responded and didn't even spell my name right in his response. The dentist I had was very nice but the fact that I gave YOUR office my insurance ID TWICE and was assured I was covered... but I am actually am not is not right. You're not in network and not transparently telling clients that is not being a dentist with integrity. Other reviews you responded to you mention this same "miscommunication" when you should be taking responsibility for not telling the whole truth to potential clients. Be transparent what insurance companies you may be in network with and which ones you're not contracted with so you avoid this same miscommunication that seems to be happening with several other people. I never write reviews, but this place is super SUSPECT. Tread with caution and be vigilant. There's a reason there are so many detailed and lengthy one-two star lengthy reviews on here. 1) Receptionists are lovely but don't let their niceness fool you. Check, double check and triple check your coverage before you agree to anything. This place was listed as IN NETWORK, but it's OUT OF NETWORK. I have dental insurance, why am I paying $275 for a cleaning? Obviously it's our responsibility to know such things but I just found this odd. 2) Get a second opinion from another dentist if these guys give you a treatment plan. They may tell you that you have a cavity on every other tooth. That's a common theme among the reviews. Add that to the fact that they're out of network for some people and selectively disclose that information, makes this feel a bit shady. 3) Dentists are sweet, polite and hardworking. No complaints about them per se. Dentist #1 who did my crown was nice although I had to go back a couple of times throughout the process because first my temp crown popped off and then the crown needed to be fitted properly. Something I noticed is when the temp crown popped off, I went to dentist #2 and the temp crown that dentist #2 created for me was immaculate (which of course made me doubt the first dentist's experience somewhat). Might be all in my head but when dentist #1 when prepping my tooth for the crown that was one of the most excruciatingly painful dental visits in my entire life. Again, I'm sure they're many factors in play here but a bit odd. I will 100% NOT be going back to this place.

So unprepared.Awful experience. Needed emergency extraction/fix, I am in so much pain. Left with nothing but a referral to another dentist's office. I call the night before and explained my painful situation, they assure if I needed an extraction it could be done, for my surprise the Dr I booked was not present, and the Dr who saw me could not do much. Will never recommend this place to anyone I appreciate/love. A sad rip off and waste of time.

I am thoroughly disappointed with the treatment performed and the service I received. Want to know how I spent $1300 and left with pain I didn't have before going to Williamsburg Smile Design? Continue reading. I joined as a new patient and went for a check-up about six months after my previous dentist cleared me of any cavities. After my check-up, I was surprised to learn that I would require three fillings. I decided to proceed with the treatment because I didn't want any potential cavities to worsen. In the lead up to the procedure, I found it odd that I was repeatedly told by staff that Dr. Mapes' treatment times are "super quick" and "he likes to go fast." I had my fillings done and I was surprised that three fillings were done in less than 30 minutes. I've had a lot of fillings over the years, and I've never seen a dentist work so quickly. Before I left the office, I was told, "If there are any problems, please come back." Again, I found this extremely strange. Guess what? The fillings never settled, and I am experiencing sensitivity in my teeth, weeks after treatment. The most frustrating aspect is that I felt the treatment was unnecessary, and now I have sensitivity in teeth that were not previously sensitive. I called the office and was told to come back in, but because I moved out of the area, I now have to find a new dentist and pay again to have them fix the shoddy work carried out by Williamsburg Smile Design. To add insult to injury, and similar to other recent reviews, double-check that you are in-network here. The staff advised me that I was in-network (Delta Dental). I paid over $500 on the day of treatment, then my credit card was charged another $800 without my knowledge several weeks later. When I called Delta, they informed me that the specific method of treatment used here was not covered. So I ended up paying $1300 for treatment that felt needless and left me with sensitivities I didn't have before.

I've needed a lot of dental work done over the past few years and Dr. Mapes has been awesome each and every visit. I've been seen for two dental emergencies and the issues have always been explained with clarity and handled promptly. I (like so many people) get super nervous going to the dentist but always feel safe in the care of these doctors! I also feel it's worth mentioning that I don't have dental insurance but have purchased the in-house plan. Considering the amount of dental work I needed, being on the plan definitely helped with payments and also has had me covered for regular cleanings and those occasional emergency visits.

Got a facial the first day they opened 10 + years ago and I have been a very happy client for over decade. I only have good things to say about Gosha and her team. I highly recommend the place.

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. First, they don't take insurance, so you either have to 1) sign up for THEIR plan which covers two cleanings and a set of x rays a year, but only gives a very small discount (like 10%) on other dental work like fillings so then you have to pay most of it out of pocket; or 2) submit the bill to your insurance and pray they cover it. So they make sure they get paid, but you could be left with a big bill. Second, at my first cleaning, they tried to sell me on Invisalign, a night guard, and removing my wisdom tooth (growing in straight, not impacted), none of which I asked about. Then, they told me I had SEVEN cavities. I paid to have two filled, but couldn't afford to fill the rest. Luckily, once I got insurance through my work, I found another dentist that was in network, and he told me I don't have ANY cavities!! They tried to scam me into paying to have five more holes drilled in my teeth for no reason. Who knows if I needed the first two fillings. BEWARE!

This place is the best. Everyone is so nice and Dr. Mapes and Stephanie explain everything to you in a very clear way. I've never had a dentist answer my questions so thoroughly and I really appreciate it. I got a beautiful gold crown here and it feels incredible.

My front veneer came off so I went to the nearest dentist (Williamsburg Smile Design) for an emergency fix. Given my insurance would be replenishing in July I asked for something temporary to carry me over the month of June. Dr. Mapes offered me only two options - one being a temporary replacement for $950 and the second a total redo of a crown for approx $2500. I was really taken aback. I quickly left, called my regular dentist in the city and got an Uber straight there. They simply reapplied the veneer for $150 and waived the emergency fee. I wrote to Dr. Mapes the next day and got a response that lacked any kind of compassion, opening with 'we clearly have a difference of opinion' and then outlined various opinions, each one followed by 'this is a fact'. All I know is we're now only 3 weeks away from my insurance being applicable and my veneer is still firmly in place. This is a fact. November, 17th, 2020 - Review Update: Almost six months later and my veneer is still firmly in place. Thank you 209 NYC Dental for doing the job and for doing it with integrity and professionalism!
