Dr. Dougherty has received many acknowledgments for his dedication to dentistry. He is a recent past president of the Virginia Dental Association (2016-2017). He has been welcomed as fellow in the Virginia Dental Association, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. He has also been elected as a Virginia Dental Association Delegate by his peers.
Dr. Dougherty was presented the Virginia Dental Associations Presidential Citation on publication of Infection Control and Environmental Safety: Best Management Practices. The Virginia Dental Association also awarded Dr. Dougherty a Presidential Citation for dedication to Online Mentor Resource for his position as Task Force Chair. In addition, Dr. Dougherty has held several committee chair positions for Access to Care, Continuing Education meetings, and charitable dental projects.
Dr. Dougherty has held numerous dental leadership positions, including his current position as the Chair of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Dentists and the immediate past president of the Virginia Dental Association. He is a Delegate to the American Dental Association, representing the state of Virginia.
He also previously served as the American College of Dentists Virginia Section Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. Dougherty is currently a Virginia Dental Association delegate and has held the chair of Infection Control and Environmental Safety atthe state level.
Locally, Dr. Dougherty is the Northern Virginia Dental Societys representative to the Virginia Dental Associations board of directors and serves on the executive committee. He is also a past president of the Northern Virginia Dental Society.
Dr. Dougherty is very active in the community. He volunteers annually with Mission of Mercy and Give Kids A Smile projects. He even traveled to New Orleans for a Mission of Mercy project for Hurricane Katrina victims. He also volunteers with the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic.
He has been a Falls Church Lions Club member for more than20 years and was presented the Lions of Virginia Foundation Inc. Distinguished Humanitarian Award. He was also presented with the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce Humanitarian Award, for whichhe currently serves on the board of directors.
Dr. Dougherty resides in Arlington with his wife, three children, and black Labrador. He has coached Arlington Youth soccer and is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He enjoys boating, fishing, golfing, and taking ski trips with his family.

Jean has been with our practice for more than 15 years, and has many years of previous customer service experience. She moved to Northern Virginia from upstate New York. She is a strong asset to our team because she is always available to our patients when they have questions about their accounts or insurance. Since she hasa degree in math, our patients are able to rely on her to help understand their insurance coverage and flexible spending accounts. Her cheerful personality makes her easy to approach, and shes always willing to help. Jean is a member of the American Association of Dental Office Management and participates in annual continuing education courses to broaden her knowledge of dental practices.
Miriam grew up in Alexandria. With roots in El Salvador, her family was always the most important value. Over the last fewyears in the dental field, Miriam has been able to share that value with her patients. Her warm personality delivers a personal approach to everyone she meets.
Camilla is the newest member in our practice. She has been working in the dental field since 2014 and graduated last year with her Hygiene degree from Northern Virginia Community College. Camilla is excited to utilize the latest techniques and advances in the field and share with her patients the best in dental health and prevention.
When not scaling teeth, Camilla is in the pool coaching competitive swimmers with a local year-round swim team. Regarding her personal life, she was recently married and is excited to settle down in Northern Virginia with her husband.
Katie is an exceptional dental hygienist with over a decade of experience at DoughertyDDS. A graduate of Northern Virginia Community College, she also holds a bachelors degree in psychology from Salisbury University. Katie enjoys helping patients experience the benefits of quality dental healthcare. Sheis a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association, of which she is a past president for her local component. She heads the environmental Go Green and recycling program here at our practice. As the office coordinator, Katie has opportunities to help the practices advancements to improve standards of care. She is also the public relations manager andmonitorssocial media, web design, and handling advertising and marketing.
Abigail has a passion for meeting new people and building relationships with all her patients. She is caring and hardworking, and hasseveral years of dental experience. She was a senior in high school when she began working as an intern at a dental office. Her love for the dental field tookher to Northwest Career College in Las Vegasfor further training. Being married to a member of the military has provided travel opportunities to serve as a dental assistant in Nevada, Texas, and now Virginia. Her smile and cheerful personality bringa warm presence to the practice.
