I cannot say enough great things about this pediatric dentistry office. My boys (ages 7 & 4) had the BEST experience there and have asked multiple times when they can go back. The staff we worked with were very kind, patient, and helpful. The other day I got two cards in the mail with the boys' pictures from there and a hand written note from the dentist- so thoughtful and small things like that go a long way. I was anxious/nervous about finding a good place for them because dental health is incredibly important to us; I am extremely appreciative of our experience there and would recommend it in heartbeat.

Dr. Marty was very professional while at the same time very patient and accommodating to my talkative and terrified-of-the-syringe son. Keeping my son relaxed enough to work on 2 cavities after x-rays and an exam was everything I has hoped would occur and the office was able to do just that! Highly recommend this office for caring and gentle professional dental services.

Dr. Marty and his staff at amazing! My kids love the dentist now! Its not like fighting them to go back every 6 months anymore! The atmosphere is perfect for kids of all ages! We will continue to see him until my kids are of age to see someone else and I hope at the point he can point us in the direction of a great adult dentist!

We utilize leading-edge dental technology as part of our commitment to providing an exceptional level of dentistry. These tools allow us to detect issues earlier, diagnose, and treat more dental issues faster while keeping your comfort priority one at all times. You can trust youre getting only the latest dental technology and treatments when you visit our office.

Dr. Marty has been in private practice since 2006, and his get up and go attitude and fearless determination have led to an incredible dental career over the past decade. He is so grateful to have found a job that allows him to care for children in a way that helps them lead healthier lives and shows them how much they matter! More than anything, he strives to make each visit a genuinely good experience for young patients and their parents.

As a child, Dr. Marty had a great pediatric dentist that made a huge impact on him! He always looked forward to his dental visits, realizing as an adult that the dental field would be a great way for him to help others as well. All these years later, hes still thrilled with his choice of a career and wouldnt change it for anything in the world!

After graduating from Mount Michael High School, Dr. Marty attended Saint Louis University for his undergraduate degree. From there, he entered the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry two years early, obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2004. Finally, he completed his pediatric dental specialty residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He makes it a point to attend the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistrys annual meeting every other year to stay current on new research and techniques in the field. In the past, hes also served on the state committee, which is dedicated to reviewing and updating pediatric dental sedation guidelines routinely. He is a current member of the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists.

Dr. Marty was born and raised right here in Lincoln, and he spends most of his free time with his wife Amy, a periodontist, and their four children Peter, Patrick, Liam, and Lucy. His boys are heavily involved in Boy Scouts and YMCA sports and try to duck out of their piano practice as often as they can. His daughter is the youngest and keeps the whole family busy with all things pretty. Her favorite activities typically involve unicorns and lots of glitter. Dr. Martys personal hobbies include mountain biking, camping, canoeing, backpacking, and building stuff out of Legos with his kids. In particular, he really enjoys competitive gravel bike riding and regularly spends his Saturday mornings with his gravel team: The Lincoln Abrahams. He enjoys planning getaway trips with his wife and hiking trips to Utah as well.

Dr. Marty is also exceptionally passionate about volunteer work. He regularly provides free care at Nebraska Mission of Mercy and the UNMC Dental Days. His biggest joy is leading yearly dental mission trips to Haiti and treating children there who have never even seen a dentist. Over nearly a decade of trips, he has been able to see a truly positive change in the families they help, as well as the number of infections and extractions that need to be taken care of.

Welcome to Wilderness Station Pediatric Dentistry. We thank you for valuing your familys health and trusting us with your childs dental care. We cant wait to see you. Heres what you can expect at your childs first visit.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your childs first dental visit should occur as soon as your childs first tooth appears, or no later than their first birthday. Baby teeth are important for helping children chew naturally, speak clearly, and they form the path that permanent teeth follow. Regular dental checkups are the key to preventing tooth decay in adults, teens, and kidsso dont wait for a problem to arrive, and dont wait beyond their first birthday. Think of it like a well-baby checkup with your pediatrician!

Happy visit checkups give children a dental home. Your child will grow up knowing our office isnt a scary place. Regular checkups also help Dr. Marty get to know you, your child and your familys unique needs very well over time. Thats how your family gets the best possible care!

  • Well end with a conversation about the best ways to care for your childs teeth and prevent tooth decay as they grow. If there are any potential concerns that might call for your attention, we will discuss them as well.
  • Its never too early to start caring for your babys dental health. Tooth decay is a frequent childhood disease, but its also extremely preventable. Healthy baby teeth are an important part of a childs overall health and permanent tooth development. Even before your child gets their first tooth, you can help them have good oral health.

  • Before babys first tooth: Wipe their gums after feedings with a clean, damp washcloth or use a very soft bristled toothbrush and gently brush their gums. The sugars in breastmilk and formula can linger in your babys mouth, letting bacteria build up and surround the gums. Wiping or brushing your childsgums helps remove the sugars from the gums.
  • Are you looking for a dentist to care for your childs smile? During your search, you may have discovered that there are two types of dentists who welcome children into their practice: family dentists, who treat all sorts of patients, and pediatric dentists. Does it really matter which one you choose for your child? It might seem more convenient to visit a family dentist, but it may be better for your young ones oral health if you opt for a pediatric dentist instead. Lets talk about what a pediatric dentist does and why they are uniquely qualified to look after childrens teeth and gums.

Dr. Marty Killeen of Wilderness Station Pediatric Dentistry has 10+ years of experience in his field. He is committed to staying at the forefront of his profession, which is why he maintains memberships in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the American Dental Association. As a father of four, he can personally relate to the challenges that parents face when they are doing their best to look after their childrens oral health. If you would like to learn how he can care for the youngest smiles in your family, give our office a call.

Pediatric dentists are specialists in the oral health of children and typically treat them from infancy through their teen years. Pediatric dentists are required to complete extensive training in: the unique aspects of caring for childrens oral health, child psychology and development, child-related pharmacology, and more. As a result, they know how to effectively examine and treat children in a way that makes them comfortable.

  • Increased awareness of childrens oral health needs. Their training equips them to diagnose and treat childhood dental issues as soon as possible, which can set your little one up for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
  • The dentist and their staff members are great with kids. Visiting the dentist can be intimidating for young children. The team members in a pediatric dental office have experiencing in calming in even the most nervous little ones. The dentist may even be able to offer sedation to calm their fears.
  • Provide insightful coaching. Are you worried about your childs thumb sucking habit, or are you concerned about some of your teens nutritional choices? A pediatric dentist has a knack for providing effective coaching to correct bad habits.

I would not suggest Wilderness Station Pediatric Dentist to moms who breastfeed their children. Let me unpack this. My kid turned one and had a head full of teeth, time to go to a dentist. This dentist has fabulous reviews and was close by, so we made an appointment. First problem happened right before we set foot in the practice. On the patient intake evaluation form was a question asking if my child ate at night and lumped breastfeeding with formula feeding. During the dentist's patient-education meeting he demonstrated that he was out-of-date with his understanding of how breastmilk affected the body and teeth of babies and toddlers. This is an issue because numerous scientific studies have clearly demonstrated that breast milk does not cause tooth decay. Breast milk is a living substance, full of stem cells, white blood cells and antibodies. The antibodies found in breast milk reduce the growth of bacteria in the mouth. Breastfeeding has many other health-promoting benefits that affect the teeth and jaw development. Lumping formula and breastmilk in the same category is both unhelpful to the formula feeding and breastfeeding families. You get advice that tries to toe the line between these very different feeding methods, leaving both camps with mediocre and confusing advice. Second problem, the dentist told me I had to sleep train. It was an odd suggestion because I didn't complain about my or my child's sleep. Sure they still nurse at night but that is biologically normal and not affecting either of our lives negatively. It would have been different had I asked for his advice regarding this topic. But I did not. Sleep training (Ferber, CIO) is a very personal decision. Parents wanting advice on this topic should seek advice from people who understand biologically normal infant behavior and early childhood education, again not an expertise or certification this dentist holds. After the first visit, I should have changed dentists, but I didn't. That was my bad. So we went for our 6-month follow up. Again, he demonstrated lack of continuing education by telling me that I needed to limit my breastfeeding. Which was again unsolicited and not evidence-based. He then told me that my kid had a cavity. He doubled down and blamed breastfeeding as the cause. So I got a second opinion. The other dentist I went to, found no presence of cavities or beginnings of cavities. And taught me all about all the things that could commonly cause cavities. There are a lot of reasons a toddler could have a cavity. Yes, gummies and juice and super processed carbohydrates (think goldfish and Ritz crackers) are common culprits. But so is mouth breathing, a vitamin D deficiency, and even a genetic disposition can be causes of cavities. Dr. Marty did not talk to me about any of this these possibilities. I want to trust health care professionals to do a thorough job offering me and my little the best care possible. But when a professional offers clearly outdated information, it makes me wonder how up to date they are on other areas of their practice. While the facility at Wilderness Station Pediatric Dentistry and the staff are kid-friendly, the lack of understanding regarding breastfeeding and tooth decay and misdiagnosis of a cavity, has sealed the deal that we will go elsewhere.

My son hated going to the dentist (had a really bad experience with another dentist). He cried anytime we mentioned going to see a dentist. Then we took him to Wilderness Station Dentistry and now I don't even have to go back with him. He goes back with the technician and comes out smiling.
