Orthodontists are specialists in the dental field who have chosen to focus on diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities for patients in need. They treat a wide variety of malocclusions (such as a jaw and/or teeth that have become improperly aligned) in patients of all ages. To do so, orthodontists complete a residency program that can be two three extra years of advanced specialty training after theyve completed dental school. This is done in a university-based residency program thats been accredited by the American Dental Association. As a highly-trained orthodontist, Dr. Wigals goal is able to create beautiful smiles for his patients that will last a lifetime!
Dr. Wigal is proud to be a graduate of West Virginia University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Science in Biology degree in 2001. He was then selected to attend the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, where he worked towards his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and graduated with the highest honors in 2005. He was even inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society!
Following this honor, he spent three additional years in a residency program that focused on orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. He received a certificate of specialty in orthodontics from the West Virginia University Department of Orthodontics as well as a Masters of Science degree. During this time, he was also trained in the unique diagnostic and treatment philosophy of the Six Elements of Orofacial Harmony, which incorporates both dental and facial treatment planning into orthodontic care.
Today, Dr. Wigal is 100% committed to maintaining his education and continuing to pursue education courses as his schedule allows. Each year, he completes several times the required amount of continuing education. He is currently a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Ohio Dental Association, and the Six Elements Study Club. He is also the residing president of the W.D Miller Dental Society of Licking and Knox County. Dr. Wigal has also had research published.
Dr. Wigal and his wife Julie have two daughters, and theyve discovered that Central Ohio is an amazing place to raise a family! When hes not busy working, Dr. Wigal enjoys spending time with his children, playing golf and basketball, or coaching. The whole family also enjoys going to church and being outdoors and enjoying time with friends and family. They feel blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community.
Alex Kluemper joins our practice and our community from his hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. Upon graduating with high distinction from dental school at the University of Kentucky, Dr. Kluemper was one of three dentists to receive specialty training in craniofacial growth and development, interceptive and surgical orthodontics, and the biology of tooth movement during his three-year residency at the University of Kentucky. His training included exposure to several different kinds of orthodontic appliances including traditional braces and Invisalign, as well as cutting edge orthodontic techniques that he is excited to bring to the practice.
Dr. Kluemper is a published researcher and has received awards for his research both in dental school and during his residency. He was selected by the University of Kentucky to present his research at the prestigious Hinman Student Research Symposium. In addition to his certificate in Orthodontics, he also earned a Master of Science degree during his residency, researching ways to prevent white spot lesion development during orthodontic treatment. He is proud member of the American Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Kluempers father is an orthodontist, and his aunt is a dentist, but his career in orthodontics was not always part of the plan. After receiving his undergraduate degree in acting, Dr. Kluemper lived in New York City and later Nashville, TN pursuing acting, music and songwriting for five years before returning to school. These days, his singing and acting talents are mainly used to entertain his two young children. Dr. Kluemper and his wife, Brooke, are excited to get to know the area and put down roots in the community.
