Biological Dentistry is a combination of traditional, general dentistry with additional studies in mercury/materials toxicity, biocompatibility, nutrition, and alignment. It also incorporates Eastern medicine philosophy and the field of energetics.
Well-being is the primary focus at Whole Health. Science-based holistic approaches and a mixture of modern traditional dentistry help achieve the best possible outcome. The oral cavity is place in its perspective as part of the whole person. Great care is taken to use natural products, biocompatible materials, and sound diagnostic skills for the attentive treatment of each individual. We are not a traditional office which perpetuates the replacement of dental restorations by treating only the result, not the cause dental disease. We do not use toxic materials, over prescribe antibiotics, or ignore systemic conditions.Simply put, at Whole Health Dentistry, we treat your entire body, not just your teeth!
The body must be sound and the immune system healthy in order for dental treatment, like all medical treatment, to be successful. Referral to and from like-minded healers in alternative and traditional physician spheres are used to enhance treatment. Education is an important aspect of the practice and time is taken to provide sources for further learning and understanding.
A native of Idaho, Dr. Copeland grew up dismantling objects in order to discover why they worked. As a youth, she attended Carnegie Mellon University on a gifted young artists scholarship. Splitting her interests in arts and science, dentistry became her choice of postgraduate study.
Dr. Copeland is dedicated to consistently exceeding continuing education requirements in Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry. She has completed the most advanced Ozone courses in Medical Dental therapies and integrative therapies available in order to provide her patients with cutting-edge dental therapies. Dr. Copeland is also now a Certified Pinhole Surgery Technique (PST) Clinician. She has responded to the frequent need of her patients for successful, biocompatible and noninvasive treatment of receding gums by studying with Dr. Chao, the developer of PST. If you are one of the many patients who want gum rejuvenation, whether for one tooth or several, Dr. Copeland is so excited to be able to offer this procedure to you.
Ive also had the opportunity to study with the late Dr. Hal Huggins, Dr. Phillip Mollica and Dr. Robert Harris, in addition to immersing myself in the type of practice that satisfies my sense of life-affirming, do no damage, patient-driven, doctor-as-teacher sense of self.
There are wonderful like-minded practitioners to collaborate withnaturopaths, physicians, acupuncture/pressure, lymphatic, nutritional, neurological and toxicity specialistswho are all helpful to the dental patient seeking optimal health. I feel honored to work with them and utilize their expertise when working with my clients.
Dr. Copelands combined background in dentistry, naturopathy and integrative biological dental medicine gives her a unique and extensive toolbox to diagnose and treat patients based on their individual needs for optimal long oral term health. Her background allows her to use a whole body approach to dentistry with every patient.
She says, Especially in medicine, often what is considered an absolute truth becomes obsolete as advances force us to re-evaluate our knowledge base and what actually helps our patients improve clinically.
I had long repeated traditional dental dictums, but lost conviction for many after clinical experience. It was high time to evaluate and implement a knowledge of holistic care that the traditional dental curriculum does not offer. This allows me to look at the whole patient, treating their dental needs, and positively affecting their overall health.
Dr. Copeland settled in Santa Barbara in 2004, where she now lives with her two lovely daughters, and a menagerie of animals. When shes not caring for patients or studying the most advanced dental therapies, Dr. Copeland enjoys activities with her girls, painting, building, cooking, and reading classics.

I love the idea of Holistic Dentistry. Dr Copeland and staff focus on whole body health, from the time you arrive to your appointment to checking out and scheduling your next , they make you feel like part of their family. Whole Health Dentistry is the best dental office I have ever been to! I travel from out of state to see Dr. Copeland and Lacee because they are amazing at what they do. I had 2 extractions and felt anxious about the procedure but they both provided excellent care and by the end I felt completely okay! Whole Health Dentistry is a one of a kind! You won't find another office that offers such comprehensive services. From exams to cleanings, every portion of the appointment lends to a better understanding of your oral and overall health. Dr. Copeland is one of the most passionate doctors I've ever been to and her Team is amazing as well. Lacee makes you feel at ease no matter the reason you're there. I've been wanting to get my silver amalgam fillings removed and after some research I knew Dr. Copeland would be the best biological dentist for the job. From my initial comprehensive exam to the removal procedure itself my experience was better than I anticipated. She thoroughly explained her approach for removal and answered any questions that I had. Her team is great as they were quick to follow up via email after my initial appointment with a recommended treatment plan. On the day of my removal procedure, Dr. Copeland and her assistant Lacey walked me through every single step. I was very impressed by the safety procedures and felt well taken care of. I even received a follow up call the following day to check in on how I was doing. After my experience I will definitely be switching over to Dr. Copeland to take care of my general dental needs.

I love Dr. Copeland and her wonderful staff! They make feel at home and all the tests and recommendations are done with care. Thank to Dr. C I am now finishing up my Invisalign after two years because she recommended I do this two years ago. My smile is back and Lindsay the hygienist keeps them clean and healthy. I love the products they use on my teeth because they are safe and holistic. We are so fortunate to have a biological dentist in our area. I travel from Los Osos and it is worth the drive.

Stunning, comfortable, professional and Friendly. This isn't just another dentist or staff. This is the real deal. High Points: Dr. Cynthia Copeland is an incredibly smart detail oriented person and dentist professional, she will get it done right and safely. Super friendly staff and quality personable dental assistants. She knows how to get it done and do it right. I've been going to her for about 10+ years and have 100% confidence in her work. Things I've had done: Crowns, Metal removal, Amalgam removal Bridge removal and amalgam tattoo removal and Veneers. I'm sure she doesn't need this review but it's really wonderful to find such a quality health oriented Dentist in this world. Life is short, stay healthy!

As a dental professional of over 36 years , I had the pleasure of being Dr Copeland patient and interim assistant for her while her assistant was on vacation. During that period I like many people I had an emergency broken tooth. Not only was she more then willing to help. Her knowledge and expertise in the field of dentistry made my experience as a patient pleasant , pain free most of all informed of different options in my treatment. Renewed faith in dentistry!!! After not having been to a dentist consistently for over 10 years you can imagine the level of work needed to get my mouth back in homeostasis. WOW! If only my past dentists had been as kind and attentive to my health as Dr. C and her amazing staff, I would have never stopped going. Dr. C, Lacey, and Lindsey have been very clear with my treatment process along the way while being understanding of my anxiety around dentistry as a whole. I have no more anxiety and actually look forward to coming to the office...even when I am scheduled to have teeth removed. I look forward to continuing and finishing the current treatment plan as well as continued maintenance for many years to come. Oh yeah, I drive over an hour to see this team and it is worth every minute.
