Dr. Kevin Kempers comes from a family of healthcare professionals. As a dual-degree oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Kempers performs the full scope of oral surgery procedures with a special interest in orthognathic surgery. He and Dr. Nelson combined their practices in 2014 to form Whitewater Oral Surgery Group | Dental Implant Experts.
Naturally social with a passion for helping others, Dr. Kempers values the relationships he forms with his patients. Patients who come to Dr. Kempers appreciate his straightforward and compassionate manner and trust in his abilities to improve their oral health.
Dr. Kempers earned a bachelors degree in Biology from Colorado College. He attended dental school at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. After dental school he moved to Philadelphia and began his surgical training. This program allowed him to attend Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his oral surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. As a dual-degree oral surgeon, Dr. Kempers has years of experience safely administering anesthesia, monitoring patients, and designing treatment plans with the best possible outcome
Dr. Kempers is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). He is a member of the prestigious ABOMS examination committee and is serving his seventh year as an examiner and third year term as a Section Editor. In this position, he performs yearly examinations and helps design the exam questions. Dr. Kempers is very proud of this distinguished membership and is grateful to further his level of expertise in the oral surgery community through this role. He finds it rewarding to help other surgeons provide the highest level of care to patients.
Dr. Kempers currently serves as the Medical Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery section of Surgical Sub-Specialties at St. Luke's Regional Health System. He is the Past President of the Idaho State Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Southwest Idaho Dental Society (SWIDS).
When hes not at work, Dr. Kempers enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys. Together, they love alpine skiing, biking, backpacking, and traveling. He appreciates every patient and considers it an honor and a privilege to provide care for others.
Dr. Eric Nelson always knew he wanted to be an oral surgeon. With a keen interest in medicine and a natural calling to help others, Dr. Nelson finds it very rewarding to see his patients flourish as a result of treatment. He successfully ran his own practice for 15 years before creating Whitewater Oral Surgery Group | Dental Implant Experts in 2014 with Dr. Kempers.
Dr. Nelsons personal approach to care means his patients are treated with honesty, integrity, and compassion. Patients who come to Dr. Nelson can feel comfortable about their treatment and trust that they are in exceptional hands.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah and attended dental school at the University of Iowa. Dr. Nelson went on to earn a medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed both his general surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery residencies at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he gained hands-on surgical experience in a hospital-based setting.
Dr. Nelson is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), which holds him to the highest standard of care. He had to undergo rigorous peer evaluations and demonstrate adequate knowledge, training, and professionalism in order to achieve and maintain certification status.
Dr. Nelson has served as the Idaho delegate to the American Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He also assists with anesthesia peer review in the state of Utah. Specializing in oral implantology, Dr. Nelson lectures both locally and nationally on dental implant and bone grafting techniques. He is also a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
Dr. Nelson has three adult children and lives in Boise with his wife. Together, they enjoy family outings, running, skiing, fishing, and traveling. He has participated in the Boston Marathon four times and loves DIY projects and home improvements.
Dr. Justin Hastings became interested in the dental field when his college roommate, a dental student, encouraged him to pursue dentistry himself. Now, as a dual-degree oral surgeon, Dr. Hastings enjoys being able to rebuild the oral and facial structures to achieve positive outcomes for his patients.
Dr. Hastings has a special interest in reconstructive and orthognathic surgeries and has taken part in several national and international dental outreach programs. As an attentive listener and natural problem solver, patients who come to Dr. Hastings feel informed about their treatment and confident about the care they receive.
As an All-American baseball player in high school, Dr. Hastings carried his love for the game into college and pitched for Cypress College in California before attending the University of California Santa Barbara and graduating with a degree in biology. He attended New York University College of Dentistry, where he graduated top of his class. While in dental school, Dr. Hastings was selected to participate in dental outreach programs in Nicaragua, Grenada, and upstate New York.
Dr. Hastings went on to receive his medical degree at Louisiana State University. After completing a general surgery internship, he received his OMS certificate upon completion of residency. Dr. Hastings was trained in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery and gained valuable experience as a hands-on surgeon.
Dr. Hastings is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). This status holds him to the highest standards of patient care: he must demonstrate continuous training, experience, and knowledge in the field. He is the President-elect in the Southwest Idaho Dental Society (SWIDS) and is the oral surgeon representative on the anesthesia board for Idaho. He is also the President-elect of the states oral surgery society.
When hes not at the office, Dr. Hastings loves spending time with his family. Typically, his kids run the show! Together, they participate in many sports, take adventures to lakes and mountains, go camping, and explore Idaho. Hes a handyman and has built playhouses, swing sets, sheds, and a chicken coop.
