Dr. Melissa Backman grew up in the Lexington area. She knew she wanted to return to her hometown to practice dentistry and in 2009 she opened White Knoll Dentistry. Dr. Backman completed her undergraduate degree at Winthrop University and went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She completed a General Practice Residency after dental school at the Childrens Hospital in Oklahoma City where she received advanced training in treating children and patients with special needs. She never wants anyone to fear or dread coming to the dentist and hopes that she can build trust with all patients, but especially patients who avoid the dentist out of fear. There is immeasurable satisfaction in turning fearful patients into committed ones with healthy teeth and gums.
