With over 10 years of experience in general and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Chelsea Dean has always felt passionate about serving patients and members of the Reno community with exceptional care. Dedicated to the details, Dr. Dean has made it her goal to create a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment where patients feel seen and valued. She has spent many years working in diverse dental settings with patients of all ages, allowing her to provide unparalleled dentistry for her hometown.Dr. Dean grew up in Northern Nevada and attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology. She then attended the UNLV School of Dental Medicine and graduated with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD). After dental school, Dr. Dean planted roots in the Reno area to settle down with her college sweetheart and start a family.Throughout the years, she has continued her education in many different areas of dentistry, including cosmetics, Invisalign, CEREC crowns, and esthetic procedures like Botox and dermal fillers. Passionate about providing comfortable, effective care, Dr. Dean is also a certified provider of Laser Dentistry. Dr. Dean has always had an interest in teaching and is currently a supervising dentist at Truckee Meadows Community College where she oversees the dental hygiene clinic.She is a member of several professional dental groups, including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Women Dentists, the American Dental Association, the Northern Nevada Dental Society, the Nevada Dental Association, and the American Academy of Facial Esthetics.When Dr. Dean isnt caring for patients, she loves spending time with her husband, Jarrod, and two children, Emma and Ethan. She also enjoys walking her two pups, cooking, running, skiing, boating, and traveling. Creating WestSide Dental Studio has been Dr. Deans dream, and she cant wait for you to come visit!

TMJ/TMD refers to temporomandibular joint disorder. As the name suggests, TMD refers to a malfunction of the temporomandibular joint. This joint is located right below both of the ears, and it connects the jaw to the skull. When its healthy and functioning properly, it allows you to open your mouth widely, chew, speak, and laugh without pain.
Tooth extractions are always a last resort at your dentist in Reno. Dr. Dean will always explore every available option to save your tooth. When possible, your tooth is always more cost-effective and better for your oral health.
First, Dr. Dean will examine your mouth to determine if an extraction is necessary. She will discuss alternatives if its possible to save your tooth. However, if a tooth extraction is the best option, that is what she will recommend.
Dr. Dean will use a variety of tools to loosen the connection between the tooth and your mouth. You may feel some pressure as she moves the tooth and prepares it for extraction, but you will not feel any pain. When the tooth is loosened sufficiently, she will grab it with a dental forceps and pull it out.
As the final step, your extraction site will be cleaned and disinfected, and suture shut to heal. This process will be repeated if you require multiple tooth extractions. Otherwise, youll be sent home with recovery instructions to follow.
