Ive been practicing dentistry for more than 30 years and cannot imagine a more fulfilling and rewarding profession. Every day I care for the smiles of some of the most incredible people: our patients! Each of them comes to us with their own goals and concerns. By really listening to a patient, and watching their body language, I learn about their needs. This allows me to develop a treatment approach that works for their specific situation.
As a dentist, Im constantly looking out for my patients best interest. I strive to deliver care that improves their oral, overall, and smile health. I am glad to help someone achieve their healthiest and best smile. Im just as happy to get a person out of dental pain and provide them the relief needed to enjoy life again. I also like restoring function, enabling a person to comfortably and properly chew.
In the years Ive been a dentist, Ive been honored to care for many wonderful individuals. I enjoy getting to know each person, as well as their family. Im humbled to now be caring for the smiles of the children and even the grandchildren of some of my first patients!
I first attended theUniversity of Northern Iowa. Then I enrolled at theUniversity of Iowa College of Dentistry, where I was awarded my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. That education provided excellent foundational knowledge of the field.
However, this is a constantly evolving profession. New technologies, materials, and techniques are continually being developed. In order to provide my patients with the best treatment options, I must stay current on these changes. By taking continuing dental education courses, I ensure our practice exceeds our patients expectations for leading-edge care.
I was raised in Maurice and have called Johnson, IA my home for more than 20 years. Im happily married to a violinist and Tulip Queen. We have three children, eight grandchildren, and a dog named Coda. When Im not caring for patients, I enjoy basketball, biking, golfing and watching sports. I spend a lot of my time at Lake Okoboji, too.
Being an active part of our community is important to me. I volunteer with various church organizations and groups. I also participate in Dentistry from the Heart, a program offering free dental care to those in need.

Outside of work, Dr. Odland loves exercising, running, hiking and traveling. He also enjoys reading and watching movies in his free time. Dr. Odland is an avid Iowa State fan and loves going to Ames with his family to cheer on the Cyclones.

I really enjoy getting to know our patients and building strong friendships with them. I want them to feel at home, safe, and relaxed during their visits, so they look forward to coming back. I joined the West Des Moines Dental Care team in 2010 and love being part of such a wonderful practice. Working with patients, I take X-rays, prepare them for their procedure, and explain what will happen. Then I sit chairside, supporting the doctor and the patient.
