I grew up in the Tri-Cities and graduated from Kennewick High School (1974), Brigham Young University (1981), the University of Washington School of Dentistry (1985), and USAF General Practice Residency (1986). I have been practicing in West Richland since 1990 and am a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society. My wife Karen and I live in West Richland and have three grown children and a growing number of grandchildren. In addition to treating the needs of my patients, I enjoy reading, painting, sports, and spending time with my family.
I grew up in the Tri-Cities and graduated from Richland High School in 2000. I attended Brigham Young University completing a Bachelor of Science in biology before being accepted to the University of Washington School of Dentistry. I joined West Richland Family Dental in 2010, after graduating from dental school with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. I am happy to be back in the Tri-Cities with my wife Jessica and our four children. We enjoy being involved in the local community in many ways. I love spending time with my family, reading, skiing, scuba diving, traveling, and anything outdoors. I am excited to be a part of West Richland Family Dental. I love dentistry and want to ensure each patient feels comfortable and has a great dental experience in my care.
I am a native of the Richland Area. My early education included undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I attended dental school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated in 2001 with honors. After dental school I received additional training as a dental resident at the University of Utah Hospital. I have practiced dentistry at West Richland Family Dental Center since 2002. I have four children and enjoy spending time with my family, golfing, scuba diving, and anything outdoors. I strive to make each patient feel important, welcomed, and at ease with their dental treatment. My greatest compliment is hearing how painless and easy treatment can be.
I grew up in Hermiston, Oregon and graduated high school (2001), Brigham Young University (2008), Boston University School of Dental Medicine (2013) and the US Armys 2 year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (2016). I became certified by the American Board of General Dentistry in 2017. I served as an officer and dentist in the US Army from 2013-2019. I consider my greatest achievement to be winning over the love of my life. We have a daughter, three sons, a labrador and a cat. Since 2006 weve been adventuring all over the world and are happy to be back where it all started. Our favorite activities and hobbies include: family movie night, smash bros tournaments and late night DQ blizzard runs.
I grew up on an apple orchard in Yakima, Washington. In high school, I was the lead in several musicals and a High Hurdles State Champion. I went on to receive a degree from Brigham Young University in Exercise Science and a minor in Spanish, as well as serving a two-year proselytizing mission in Los Angeles, CA. I later attended the University of Washington for Dental School. After completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry in Yakima, I joined West Richland Family Dental Center in 2018. I consider myself a very social person and am always up for adventure with friends and family. I continue to support theater (I was recently in a cast of 7 brides for 7 brothers) and enjoy serving in church and community while mentoring at the Columbia Basin Hygiene clinic. My focus is always on high quality dentistry and a great patient experience!

West Richland family dental is the best dental experience I have ever had! The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I have sent many people there, and they and they feel as I do that they finally got lucky and found a wonderful place for all of their dental needs! I cannot recommend them enough! Marta

Worst dental experience ever! Never bothered to get my x-rays from previous dentist, ignored me when I told them my previous dentist saw a small cavity and 6 months later, surprise, large cavity. I told the tech I was very hard to numb and please let Dr. know, after I had come up out of the chair TWICE when Dr. was drilling, he asked me "wow, are you really hard to numb?" When I just stared at the tech she tells me "we discussed it" REALLY, then why is he asking me??!! I chipped a tooth jerking away from the drill and the two cavities filled are still painful. They smeared the glue used for the filling all over my back molars and I'll have to have it removed as well as having my chip toothed repaired and the two fillings x rayed to see if they were done correctly. I'm returning to my previous dentist, would never step foot in this horror show again.

The staff are welcoming and very polite. When I looked like I didn't know what I was doing, and I didn't, they were very quick to address my concerns and questions. No surprises and I was in and out of the office quickly. Thank you!

Worst experience with a dental office ever!..although their dentists and technicians are great their administration and ability to check your coverage before performing services will have you paying for uncovered services and frustration with the lack of concern. I must have given my new insurance card 2 times to the front desk yet they billed my 3 year old insurance company and did not check if services were covered leaving me with a $187 bill for uncovered services. So many great dentist offices in West Richland just move on to one that performs both great service and billing practices.

Had a few appointments here that were okay, but nothing exceptional and always felt rushed out the door or waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time to get anything done. Needed a crown on my tooth and the front desk told me it was going to be covered by my insurance at the time, needless to say it wasn't, they lied and I'm now paying off a crown that I would've never gotten if it wasn't for this team. Had to start a payment plan over it where I signed to pay an amount, and had an appointment the following week. Instead of getting my signed consent at the last appointment to add on whatever I owed to the payment plan, they went ahead and did it anyways and when I called about it they were rude and snarky, WORST customer service. glad I left the state because anything is better than this

A really great dental clinic with numerous dentists and very, very kind office ladies. My dentist pulled a tooth out of my face today and he was super nice and knowledgeable. Also was very good at his job. That matters in the dentist chair. Anyway; the price was right and the service was excellent. Would recommend this place to any one without question. Zach S.

All the staff treated me kindly. I had an abscess and tooth I needed extracted. Over Labor Day weekend I struggled with discomfort and pain. I was not a patient with them but was able to get an early appointment. I was able to arrive at 9:00 am Tuesday morning. I was out by 9:48. All the staff were polite, caring and respectful. THANK YOU - 100% recommend this dental office to anyone.

First time I've enjoyed a dentist visit. The staff and the Hygienist were amazing. (The Dentist himself was too) I've never liked going to the dentist, actually I dread it. I also never comment online one way or another- but this place certainly deserved this review. Thank you for making a dentist appt as good as it could possibly be!

If you are not going to Dr. Karlson at West Richland Dental then you are missing out. The staff is awesome and very helpful. I broke a tooth and they saw me very quickly. I will readily admit that I am the biggest baby when it comes to going to the dentist! Dr. Karlson and Hannah were excellent. I am from WV where tooth care is not a priority, but Dr. Karlson was fabulous. I am an oldie but goodie, let's just say my filling was older than the dentist! But, this is the first time at a dentist visit I have had zero pain! Yes, let me repeat that, ZERO pain. Kudos to him and his staff. I actually don't dread my next visit. The best part was the price, which was was very, very, reasonable!
