We are one block from the MUNI West Portal station surrounded by plenty of on-street parking. Our office boasts spacious, private treatment rooms and views overlooking West Portal Avenue and into our Sycamore tree from one story above street level.
Originally from Leesville, LA, Dr. Mathai earned her undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans and her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Following dental school, she completed her general practice residency at Harvard University, training at Brigham and Womens and Massachusetts General Hospitals.
Dr. Mathai is a highly-experienced provider in implant dentistry, including teeth in a day all-on-6 full-mouth rehabilitation services. Dr. Mathai is committed to continuing education and takes many advanced courses each year to enhance her skills to better serve the dental care needs of her patients and provide them with a gentle and comfortable dental experience.
Before her career in dentistry, Dr. Mathai was a freelance journalist, publishing with magazines such as Men's Fitness and Conde Nast Traveler. She still enjoys writing in her spare time, as well as cooking (and eating) with her husband in San Francisco.

I searched long and hard for a top-notch dentist after moving up to the city and found Dr. Mathai and her excellent staff. I am welcomed with smiles, there is laughter in the office, the front desk staff are attentive and quick to process you in for your appointment. I loved the dental hygienist and can honestly say it was one of the best cleanings I have ever had. It is clear that Dr. Mathai has an absolute passion for her work. She took her time with me and answered all my questions. She is kind, extremely experienced and I am so grateful to have found West Portal Dental Care.

All the staff are so welcoming.I came in for my teeth clleaning and they took me in promptly and when I asked, they gave me a neck pillow. The cleaning and polishing was thorough and my mouth felt great afterwards.

This is the most pleasant dentist experience I've ever had. The dentist is so great, she outlines all the steps she'll take, she makes sure you're comfortable, and she's so nice. All the hygienists I've had are friendly and really thorough. I'd highly recommend this dentist office!

Recently i had my wife go to West Portal Dental care and she was very impressed with their professionalism and care she received. I have been a member for a short period, but I have found my new home! And I believe my wife as well will also make West portal dental her new home as well. I am impressed with there kindness and cleanliness of the dental office! The staff are truly what makes this dental office what it is!

I just moved to the West Portal neighborhood after many years on the Peninsula. I had been happy with my dentist in Mountain View, so switching to a new dentist naturally comes with some trepidation. My first impressions here are quite good! Among the things I like about West Portal Dental Care: 1. Good onboarding of new patients, including communications with previous dentist. 2. Good "digital presence" -- calendar invites, automated texts, etc. 3. Nice office, with modern equipment. 4. Ample air filtration -- everybody should be doing this! 5. Dr. Mathai is very personable, and seems quite competent (I am not skilled in the art of dentistry by any means!!!). She showed no inclination to try to "upsell" me to services -- that is a complaint I have heard about a lot of dentists. 6. The hygienist was gentle and very thorough. She was then able to schedule a followup appointment immediately. Another thing that "everybody should be able to do!" Anyway, highly recommended based on my first visit!

Really appreciated how nice everyone was, both the dentist and her staff. Dr. Matthai is highly professional--she did a really thorough check for the health of teeth and roots as well as identifying problems that needed to be addressed.
