Dr. Desai grew up in the small town of Somerset, Pennsylvania. After earning her dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, she continued her education at Oregon Health & Sciences University, earning a certificate in orthodontics. During her time in dental school, she found that the most engaging cases were those in which she built long-term relationships with her patients. Prior to joining the West Loop Orthodontics team, she conducted impressive temporomandibular joint research.
'Seeing a patient’s life, attitude and nself-confidence change as their nsmile transforms, and being a little npart of making all that happen is nby far the most rewarding aspect nof orthodontics for me.'
Dr. Arruda and Dr. Desai are board certified orthodontists committed to providing top of the line of patient care. Only 5% of dentists are orthodontists and only 30% of orthodontists are board certified. In order to be board certified, orthodontists must undergo rigorous written and clinical assessments as well as participate in continued orthodontic education.
When Dr. Arruda isnt creating beautiful smiles, she can be found spending time with family and friends, coaching soccer, and giving back to the community. In Dr. Desais free time, she can be found practicing her serve at the local tennis court or supporting her favorite sports teams, the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Master Series brackets are probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think of traditional braces. We use these special brackets exclusively on our kiddo patients. Developed with the patients comfort in mind, these brackets have smooth, rounded edges. This results in less irritation to your gums and cheeks. The small design makes it easy to keep clean, and can be personalized with your choice of dozens of ligature colors.
What makes Empower 2 brackets unique is theyre self-ligating; each bracket is made up of a door-like clip that holds your arch wire in place instead of rubber bands. This design means easier wire adjustments and less time in the patient chair. Theyre designed to comfortably rest on lips and cheeks, and be easier to clean. For us to remove and replace the wire, it's as simple as opening a door. It features a sculpted, low-profile design. We offer Empower 2 brackets for our teen and adult patients.
Radiance Plus brackets are traditionally designed, but clear and discreet. Theyre the orthodontic industrys clearest cosmetic brackets. Theyre made from pure sapphire and Quad-Matte technology to reduce the chance of emergency visits. The smooth, contoured design is made to treat almost every type of orthodontic case. We offer Radiance Plus brackets for our teen and adult patients.
Metal braces are the most cost-effective treatment option. Although you have to modify what types of food you eat, you dont have to worry about taking braces on and off to brush or eat like with Invisalign. Dr. Arruda and Dr. Desai will see you every 4-8 weeks to make adjustments and change your wires.
Depending on the case, Dr. Arruda may adhere tiny SmartForce attachments to certain teeth. These attachments give your aligners something to push on gently, thus moving your teeth more efficiently. The best part? Theyre hardly noticeable.
The clear, computer-generated trays are worn 22-24 hours a day. We recommend you change your trays as directed by Dr. Arruda in order to ensure your teeth straighten in the fastest amount of time possible. People wont be able to tell that youre wearing them, and your speech will adjust within a day or two.
Invisalign does require more responsibility for the patient as opposed to traditional braces; you must remember to change them every 7 to 14 days, take them out to eat and brush your teeth before putting them back in, and clean them regularly to maintain sanitary trays. Removal of your trays for an extended amount of time does delay your results, which is something to keep in mind.
A common misconception about Invisalign is that its only ideal for minor teeth straightening issues. However, thats not the case. West Loop Orthodontics has successfully treated patients with crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, and open bites using Invisalign.
