Dr. Wentz spent most of his childhood growing up in Alaska at Fort Richardson and Fort Wainwright. His father was an Army orthodontist. He always knew that he wanted to make Alaska his permanent home.After completing his residency at the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1990, Dr. Wentzreturned to Alaska as chief of orthodontics at Ft. Wainwright. Then he opened his private practice in Fairbanks in 1994.
Dr. Wentz has completed additional certifications since his graduation.He is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the Angle Society, as well as a participating member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and the Alaska Dental Society. He volunteers at the Fairbanks Cleft Palate Clinic. Dr. Wentz is also a certified Invisalign provider.
Dr. Wentz and his family enjoy the many outdoor experiences that Alaska has to offer, from camping, hunting, and fishingto hockey and skiing. They are proud to support local events such as the annual Tote UAF Museum Family Day, Relay for Life, Summer Fine Arts Camp, and sports activities in which their patients participate.

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.
Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now choose clear or metal brackets and, in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great time to wear braces!
Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors, including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also ensure a quicker treatment time.

Will update with more details, I have plenty from a year and a half. DO NOT GO TO WENTZ ORTHODONTICS. I went because there are few options in town, I regretted it early on. Money grabbing, poor customer service, get any conversations with their staff in writing! Dr. Wentz has too many patients he's taking money from and visits with him are very impersonal, also you will be passed around between other doctors with different treatment techniques each appointment, I rarely saw Dr. Wentz himself. They glued my braces on poorly, I broke a bracket flossing and when I went in to get it fixed, they broke two more off in the process of fixing. Extremely painful. The front office staff were rude before COVID started and since it has been much worse. They act like it's an inconvenience each time you speak with them and rush to get you off the phone or out of the office because they are too busy. When getting braces off I was shoved a paper and told to sign it without being given time to read through it because she was trying to rush me out of the front so she could bring in the next patient. I know not to sign things without reading them but trusted their staff wouldn't screw me over! They are across the board projecting their COVID stress on patients and unprofessional. I was told repeatedly that I would be getting a refund since my braces were off early. Nope, they never contacted me as I was promised multiple times, when I finally hunted them down now I owe more money! but they gave me a discount because of their mistake and told me that should make me happy. Nope. I highly recommend Jessica Woller at Fairbanks Orthodontic Group, unfortunately I met her after I started the fiasco with Dr. Wentz.

Excellent customer service and family-friendly atmosphere. Dr. Wentz and his team make each visit special for our children. Dr. Wentz & team are thorough and I never feel like our daughter is receiving unnecessary orthodontic treatment, and because of that, I feel like Wentz orthodontics has our family's best interests in mind.

So my kid had an accident on Friday night with a table. His lip was VERY stuck in his braces. I called the emergency number to see if they could help or did I just need to rely on the ER (I made this call from the ER where the PA wasn't sure how to proceed). FOURTEEN hours later I got a TEXT telling me to make an appointment on Monday. Although they promptly called me at open of business Monday morning; the woman wasn't overly polite to my request to see the doctor early in the morning. Her snarky "Well....we *are* squeezing you in" as if she was doing me a favor by seeing my kid who had an orthodontic emergency on FRIDAY NIGHT on Monday at 3. There should be someone ANSWERING the emergency number or they shouldn't have one. PERIOD. (I'm just used to the emergency line at Four Corners Dental Group....which rocks by the way!) Why do I keep frequenting this establishment? Because they are the only doctor in town who takes Medicaid. Did I complain to the staff? Yes. I even complained to Doctor Wentz himself. I was met with blank stares. This was an unacceptable way for things to have gone.

Dr. Wentz and his staff are all wonderful. They explained everything very clearly to my daughter in a way that she could understand. This helped motivate her to do her part and not complain. The office is always clean and inviting. The staff are always polite, professional and personable. I would recommend Dr. Wentz to anyone looking for an orthodontist.

Both of our children have gone to Dr. Wentz for orthodontics. With early-age visits (kindergarten and first grade age) a treatment plan was developed that saved us a lot of money and lessened the amount of time they needed to wear braces. Dr. Wentz and the staff are very professional as well as friendly. The spacious office and setup is a well designed and comfortable place for patients and staff. To be honest, it's fun to visit there. I highly recommend Dr. Wentz as the place to find excellent and professional orthodontic care.
