We know that nearly one third of adults in the workforce have uncorrected vision problems, and that makes it harder for them to be productive. It even makes it harder to get to work, because poor eyesight is a factor in more than half of all vehicle accidents.
And we know children with dental pain are three times more likely to miss school than children who have access to good dental care. Dental health is about more than teeth. Did you know that gum disease can complicate diabetes? Or that heart disease and gum disease often go hand in hand? Developing good dental habits is a step on the road to wellness. At WellPartners, we want to help people live healthier, better lives.
The Childrens Dental Program provides a dental home for eligible school-age children between 5 and 18 years of age.Through our partnership with Midland's School District school nurses, we work together to bring awareness of our services to parents of eligible children in our community.
On average, we treat more than 1,500 uninsured students annually at WellPartners Children's Dental clinic.The Children's DentalClinic has two Certified Dental Assistants working in each of our two clinics. Each clinic sees children four mornings per week during the school year to provide comprehensive dental care in partnership with community volunteers treating in our clinics and specialists within their own practices.For six weeks during the summer months, the Childrens Dental clinicprovides preventive services in partnership with volunteers from Midlands Technical College.
Our Lexington County location has a part-time dentist, Kimberly Bensonhaver, DDS. She is a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loma Linda University. The clinicis also staffed with full-time certified dental assistants and registered dental hygienists with multiple years of experience.
