Our team work to attain an unequaled level of professional service that exceeds our patients highest expectations; a level that secures Wazio Orthodontics as the leader in orthodontic care in our community. We will strive to motivate and educate our patients in a friendly, caring manner so that they understand the full benefits of orthodontics and realize the importance of a shared commitment between the patients, parents, and the orthodontic staff.

When your braces are removed, you will wear a retainer to hold your teeth in position. Retainers are just as important as braces in the treatment. You will wear your retainer for as long as it takes for your teeth to settle into a better occlusion (bite) and for your bones, gums, and muscles to adapt to your new dental arrangement.

Your teeth are not set rigidly into your jawbone like you might think. They are held in place by bands of fibrous tissue called the periodontal ligaments. After your teeth have been moved into their ideal position by your braces and/or other orthodontic appliances, it takes time for the periodontal ligaments to adjust. When you are not wearing your retainer, pressure from your lips and tongue can cause your teeth to shift. Even if your teeth and smile dont look like they are moving, that doesnt mean they havent. If you go without wearing your retainer for long periods of time, your teeth will continue to move until misalignment is visibly noticeable.

A retainer is a custom-made appliance that helps teeth maintain their new position after braces have been removed. Retainers are made of a thermoplastic material that is sensitive to excessive heat, so they should be kept away from any place where the temperatures exceed 115 degrees (F). Because the material used for fabrication is slightly porous, plaque tends to cling to the surfaces. Gentle scrubbing with a toothbrush will remove the plaque. Your retainer should be cleaned before and after you place it in your mouth.

There are two main types of dental retainers removable retainers and fixed retainers. Both types maintain the position of your teeth, and each type of retainer has its benefits and drawbacks. Like the different types of orthodontic treatment, the different types of retainers allow each patient to have a customized fixture that is best for their smile and lifestyle. will choose the best type of retainer for you based on your personal needs and the likelihood that your teeth will shift out of place after braces or clear aligner treatment.

Removable retainers are retainers that can be removed when you want to eat, brush your teeth, or floss. Removable retainers are a great option for patients and look similar to Invisalign clear aligners. We typically recommend that you wear your removable retainer all day and night for the first two months or so after your braces are removed. After this period, you will need to wear your removable retainer every night for the rest of your life.

A fixed retainer, also known as a permanent retainer, features a curved wire that fits the shape of your newly straightened teeth. Dr. Wazio will cement this wire to the inside of your front teeth to prevent your teeth from moving. As the name implies, fixed retainers always stay in your mouth and can only be removed by Dr. Wazio.

A retainer keeps your teeth from moving after they have been straightened with braces. Your teeth will always naturally try to shift back to their original position, which is called relapse. When used as instructed, a retainer helps to prevent this from happening.

The Team at Wazio Orthodontics acknowledges the fact that long-term retention is the best option to ensure stability of perfect alignment in all teeth. If your retainer breaks, stop wearing it and call either our Batavia or St. Charles orthodontic office as soon as possible so that your retainer can be repaired or replaced.

Dr. Wazio is seriously the best! I had braces at 40 years old and had very good experience. He has a professionally run office and very friendly staff, and Dr Wazio himself is such a nice guy. I've sent four of my kids to Dr. Wazio; I highly recommend him!

I have been receiving care at Wazio Orthodontics since I was a child. Every time I return, I am floored and absolutely thrilled with the results I receive. After having braces twice and many rounds of retainers after oral surgery, Dr. Wazio and his team go above and beyond. Dr. Wazio's staff is kind, timely, and caring. Further, Dr. Wazio has transformed my teeth and given me a smile that I am so confident and proud to show off. I will always recommend this office to all looking for a talented, smart, and lovely team. Thank you everyone for all that you do!

I will only choose the best for my son and will never settle. My son's teeth are about 3-4 years ahead of his age and it has caused a great deal of problems for his mouth. He had to have some teeth pulled then go into braces at age 7 to get his bite corrected. I needed to find an expert orthodontist who was skilled in working with young patients not just adolescents and adults. I also needed an orthodontist who had rave reviews from their patients. We met with Dr Wazzio and his team to show him what was going on. Dr Wazzio was so kind and caring and he put my son's mind at ease. So, my son did a first phase of braces that he wore for a year and a half. That process went extremely well. His mouth is still growing and he will go into the next phase of braces when he is slightly older. I'm going to attach a before and after photo as I am so proud of my son and Dr Wazzio for the drastic change! Side note, I had braces as an adult and so I am able to base my results against a fairly poor experience I had at with a different orthodontist in DuPage County. Pros: -Dr Wazzio's office has always been on time for our appointment -The team is adequately staffed so they are not keeping you waiting in a chair -They respond appropriately to your concerns -They strictly followed Covid protocols during the pandemic -They accept pretty much all insurances -They are professional & caring and worked so well with my young son -They have offices in both Batavia and St Charles -The administrative staff is the Dream Team Cons: None

I've been going to Dr.Wazio for over the past 10 years. He fixed my overbite and straightened my teeth with braces. There's also been times when he has made an emergency trip to the office to fix a broken wire when i had braces. This showed his dedication and commitment to his patients and his business. I'm very glad I went to Dr. Wazio to get my smile fixed! His team is very friendly and great. I would definitely recommend him for an ortho in the area!
