Saliva is one of your body's natural defenses against plaque because it acts to rinse your mouth of cavity-causing bacteria and other harmful materials. Dry mouth (also called Xerostomia) is a fairly common condition that is caused by diminished saliva production. People with medical conditions, such as an eating disorder or diabetes, are often plagued by dry mouth. Eating foods such as garlic, tobacco use, and some kinds of medications, including treatments such as cancer therapy can diminish the body's production of saliva, leading to dry mouth. Other causes are related to aging (including rheumatoid arthritis), and compromised immune systems.
Some of the less alarming results of dry mouth include bad breath. But dry mouth can lead to more serious problems, including burning tongue syndrome, a painful condition caused by lack of moisture on the tongue.
If you don't have a medical condition that causes it, dry mouth can be minimized by sipping water regularly, chewing sugarless gum and avoiding smoking. Of course, there is no substitute for regular checkups and good oral hygiene.
Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures.
Not everyone is a candidate for a dental implant, however. For a successful implant to take hold, a candidate must have proper bone density and have a strong immune system. In all cases, dental implants require strict oral hygiene.
Surgery is necessary to prepare the area for an implant and place the implant in the mouth. Following the procedure, a period of time is required for the implant to take hold and for bone tissue to build up and anchor the device. In some cases, metal posts are inserted into the implant during a follow-up procedure to connect the tooth.

Dr. Harvey explained the procedure I was inquiring about very well. He was very professional yet friendly. The dental assistant was professional and friendly as well. The receptionist explained the financial aspect of the procedure clearly. My overall visit was very positive. I would recommend Dr. Harvey's office to anyone.

Have searched for a dentist, I could feel comfortable with and trust, for years. I believe that happened today at Waupaca Smiles with Dr Harvey and his staff. They work well together, there is a routine that moved smoothly in accomplishing everything without ever creating a feeling of being rushed. In this initial appointment we established a plan, arranged financing for the planned procedure and scheduled my next appointment. I am confident in the treatment planned and feel genuinely respected and important in their practice. I am not difficult, however, as a consumer, I expect to be treated with respect' and more than simply a procedure. Highly recommend Waupaca Smiles & Dr Harvey.

My experience with Dr. Harvey and his staff was amazing! I had an implant put in and I experienced absolutely no pain whatsoever! The procedure went so quick that I couldn't believe he was finished already! I was in and out in 45 minutes with new tooth! I would definitely recommend the mini dental implant centers of America as the way to go!

If you need dentures go elsewhere do NOT GO HERE. My mother recently went into these facilities, they made the dentures 2x bigger because her dentist 'doesn't do dentures'. My mother cannot talk without her new plates hitting one another and making a horrible clicking sound, and there is no room in her mouth to chew or eat. But that's not a problem here, because they aren't implants. Which cost 25% more for a single tooth compared to an entire dental plate. She was offered a reimbursement for the plates, but will not be getting back her time or sanity after sitting in the dentists chair having to listen to her professional doctor complain to her about a delayed trip while she has been without teeth for close to a month. The facilities and how they are run has not left good impressions on anyone in our family.

Awesome, Sandy, the Receptionist was as helpful and professional as could be for a first time patient. Dr Harvey , extremely professional also took time to fully explain options for my dental needs. I would highly recommend this office to anyone!
