Dr. Christopher T. Cowherd considers it a privilege to serve his patients here at Walnut Creek Family Dentistry. As an undergraduate at the University of Iowa, he graduated with honors in Exercise Science. He later graduated from the University of Iowa with a doctorate degree in dental surgery. While in dental school, Dr. Cowherd was awarded student of the year for Special Care and Geriatric Dentistry. Since then, he has had a wide range of experiences, including in community health, private practice and teaching at the University of Iowa.
In practice for over 10 years now, Dr. Cowherd offers innovative, comfortable and personalized care to children, teens, adults and the geriatrics populations. He provides general dental care but also has extensive training and experience with geriatrics, operative dentistry and implant dentistry.Dr. Cowherd keeps up with the latest developments in dental science and he regularly excites our team by introducing new tools and technology.He takes great pride in making our patients comfortable and educating them about their oral health.He believes in working with specialists in the community to make sure every patients needs are realized.
Dr. Cowherd is a proud member of the American Dental Association and the Iowa Dental Association. He has studied extensively at the prestigious Frank Spears campus and is a member of the G.V. Black Study Club and the Baker Study Club.
Outside of the office, Dr. Cowherd provides professional dental services to people in need. His volunteer work includes regular shifts at the free medical and dental clinic in Iowa City and participating in Mission of Mercy. He has also taken part in a mission trip to Costa Rica and looks forward to participating in many more missions in the future.
Dr. Cowherd is husband to Lindsey Meder and they are parents of two children - Madeleine and Winnie. They attend Holy Trinity Church in Beaverdale, where he also serves on the school board. In his spare time, Dr. Cowherd enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends as well as reading, running and coaching his children in sports.

My experience there was not a pleasant one I was charged $50 deductible for about 10 minutes with the dentist and then referred somewhere else was in excruciating pain trying to explain to them that I need several things done with my mouth and no continuing care just told me to go to the oral surgeon get my mouth pulled my experience wasn't great even with insurance in everything I felt like they were just trying to get me out I don't have a a follow-up appointments or no continuing Care which is the reason I came in the first place was to get stuff done and now I'm $50 lighter and in the same spot I was

I admittedly haven't been to a dentist in 5 years, shame on me. And I had bad anxiety going in, because I dislike instruments in my mouth and metal against my teeth. But the employees here were awesome from the second I walked in the door. Renee did an amazing and extensive job of cleaning my teeth and took the time to explain everything to me. They took X-rays and pictures and showed them all to me. They made me feel as comfortable as was possible for me. I'm going back in 6 months and will recommend anyone to Walnut Creek Family Dentistry!

Got me in as a new patient the same day I called with an urgent issue. Nice helpful staff and the Dr. was informative and understanding. I came over from a big practice that was always having their newest graduate work on me, changed to Walnut Creek for more patient focused treatment and I'm glad I did.

I love this Dentist and his staff! Dr. Cowherd is super friendly and genuine. The hygienists take their time and do a very thorough job of cleaning and polishing. The prices are extremely reasonable and you are never "sold" any extra services you don't need. I highly recommend Walnut Creek Family Dentistry!
