After 8 years as patients at Dr. Wagoner's office, I can say with full confidence they are the best Dentist office around. The whole staff from the ladies at the front desk, to the hygienists, to the Drs. Wagoner, both Sr. and son, are kind, caring, and attentive. . Recently our son, 15, grew out of his pediatric dentist and started attending as well. Our whole family feels very lucky to have a wonderful family Dentist.

Everybody there is so kind. Dr Wagner is so trusting and makes you feel so welcomed. I've had three dental hygienists there in all of them were very kind.

Dr. Wagoner and his staff are excellent. They are being very careful with extra precautions for safety during the current pandemic. They still provide the same excellent and conscientious dental care.

Dr. Wagoner is an expert caring professional who I've trusted for my family's dental care for over a decade. Can't imagine there's better. Also if there's any billing confusion I can assure you they aren't doing any sort of bait-and-switch. Their front of house staff is as highly professional as the hygenists and the Wagoners themselves.

Dr. Joel and Dr. Wagoner are the most professional, kind hearted, and knowledgable providers I have ever met. From the moment I walked through the door I knew I was going to be well taken care of. Their entire staff was delightful and my hygienist, Megan, was especially great! The process from start to finish was easy and enjoyable. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Best dentists in Chapel Hill. They do a wonderful job on every cleaning and procedure; and have always been super accommodating with my busy schedule. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. I grew up going here and have continued to drive an hour to come here as I don't live in Chapel Hill anymore. I won't go anywhere else. They are wonderful.

I have been seeing Dr. Joel Wagoner (and Andrew Wagoner) for close to 20 years. I have found them to be extremely professional, compassionate, patient and understanding. I also admire and appreciate their more conservative slant regarding whether a procedure is immediately necessary, or does it merit a "keep an eye on this for a while" plan of attack (always prefer to hear that when I'm in the chair!) I highly recommend this practice without hesitation.

I recently went to Dr. Wagoner for a semi-annual cleaning. The receptionist and hygienist were all polite and professional. However, there was an issue that bothered me to the point where I won't return. The hygienist gave me a fluoride treatment at the end of my cleaning. After she began applying it, she mentioned it's included as part of their cleaning routine. I took it to mean that it's covered by insurance. When I got my bill, everything was covered except the fluoride. Turns out fluoride is never covered for adults. My insurance company stated that all dentist offices (should) know that. I requested that the fee be taken off and Dr. Wagoner agreed to take it off. I also requested that his office be more transparent regarding all treatments, specifically that hygienists be trained to tell patients fluoride treatment is not covered and to ask if they want it, rather than just giving it and implying that it is. Dr. Wagoner responded that he trains all his hygienists to be transparent about all treatments and that they're supposed to tell patients he recommends fluoride, but that it is not covered by insurance, and then to ask if we want it. So either I happened to get a rogue hygienist who blatantly ignored her employer's instructions on fluoride treatment OR Dr. Wagoner lied about his training practices and threw his hygienist under the bus in the process. Admittedly, this is nothing crazy or horrifying. This is just an incident that gives off the perception and raises concerns that this practice is not as transparent as they should be about treatments. I am also disappointed in the doctor's response about hygienist training. I would've had more respect for him and more faith in his honesty if he acknowledged that he needed to train his hygienists to be more transparent about the fluoride treatment. I spent more than an hour chatting with my hygienist and 5 minutes with Dr. Wagoner. I do not believe for a second she would ignore any instructions given to her by the dentist. Chapel Hill has too many excellent dentists that there's no reason to go to a dentist that sets off red flags, even if it's just over an $18 fluoride treatment.
