Currently, Dr. Vu's full-time private practice is in Fountain Valley, California. And he is a part-time faculty in both Sections of Orthodontics andOral & Maxillofacial Surgery, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), California.
Dr. Vu is Class Co-President of the LLUSD & AAID Implant MaxiCourse 2017 at Loma Linda University. Besides this training in dental implants, he also obtained additional trainings in other various courses.
Dr. Vu has been an invited speaker, giving lectures in Surgical Exposure of Impacted Canines at American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) 2014 Annual Session (in New Orleans, Louisiana) and 2016 CDA (California Dental Association) Presents (in Anaheim, CA).
Before dentistry, Dr. Vu earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Applied Mechanics is a combination of Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering.
Immediately after earning the D.D.S.from UCLA, Dr. Vuheld a faculty position as Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at USC. Atthe same time,Dr. Vuwas a full professor (with tenure) in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Dept. at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). But he is nowProfessor Emeritus.
Dr. Vu 's uniquebackground enables him to have acrystal-clear understanding of different types ofmechanicsassociated withteeth movement. As a result,the treatment plans and the corresponding treatments have been optimized for the patients. As a passionate orthodontist, Dr. Vuhas earned the reputation of being 'The Best Doctor' and 'Doctor Painless' by his patients.
Dr. Vu receivedhis Certificate of Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from New York University (NYU) in 2006; hisD.D.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2001;his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from The University of Michigan (in Ann Arbor, Michigan) in 1987; his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1982;his B.S., cum laude, in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington in 1979.
While being a full professor (with tenure) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at CSULB, he went back to school and earned his D.D.S. from UCLA and laterhis Certificate of Postgraduate Program inOrthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedicsfrom NYU.
Dr. Vu is passionate about learning and teaching the combination of orthodontics and implant dentistry. He has incorporated many advanced techniques in implant dentistry, such as Fully-Guided Implant Placement with Surgical Guide, CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography), Sinus Lift, Dentin Graft, PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin), Sticky Bone, Horizontal and Vertical Ridge Augmentation.
To obtain further training in implant dentistry, Dr. Vu also completed the LLU/AAID Implant Maxicourse 2017 at Loma Linda University (LLU), passed the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) written exam, and is working toward becoming Fellow of AAID and Diplomate of American Board of Implantology (ABOI). He is the class Co-President of LLU/AAID Implant Maxicourse 2017.
In addition, Dr. Vu is alicensed certified phlebotomist, so he canlegallydraw blood for creating PRF and Sticky Bone, which are used in various procedures in oral and periodontal surgeries, and implantology. The purpose is to promote better healing for the patients.
Dr. Chanook David Ahn is a periodontist who specializes in dental implant surgery and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease. Dr. Ahn also specializes in esthetic and functional soft tissue surgeries. His keen judgment and technical skills ensure optimized performance in procedures for each patient. With the respect of his peers and with his reputation for combining his well-proven techniques with the latest advances in dental technology, he is highly sought after as a lecturer and currently teaches dental students at the University of California Los Angeles.
Dr. Ahn is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a BS in Biochemistry. He worked at the renowned David Watkins AIDS Vaccine Lab and during his time as a research specialist he was published in multiple manuscripts for the Journal of Virology.
After a year in AIDS research, Dr. Ahn attended Tufts University-School of Dental Medicine Boston and graduated in 2013. With his passion for excellence, Dr. Ahn completed a 2-year General Practice Residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, as chief resident and was awarded resident of the year. During his training at Yale, having acquired clinical skills and experiencing countless varieties of dental cases, his passion to encompass all aspects of dental health lead him to pursue a specialty in periodontal surgery at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System where he graduated as co-chief resident.
Since 1997, Dr. Ahn has been on numerous international medical volunteer trips to various third-world countries in conjunction with several non-profit groups to places such as South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Sakhalin, India, and Peru. While Dr. Ahns academic background and surgical talents are noteworthy, it is his compassionate dedication to his patients and his passion to provide excellence in care that truly sets him apart.
