Dr. Jose Luis Alvarez became interested in dentistry at a very young age, having grown up around dental offices, and began his studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he received his degree in Biology. Dr. Alvarez then when on to graduate from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2000, where he graduated with research honors.

With a personal goal of providing each and every patient with the best care possible, Dr. Alvarez has established himself within the El Paso community as leader in dental care and treatment. He is currently a member of the El Paso District Dental Society and even served as president from 2008-2009. In addition, he is a member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Alvarez's former practice, Alvarez Dental, was previously located at 10978 Montwood Drive. He established Vista Hills Family Dental in January 2009 and is currently located on the east side of town at 1713 Weston Brent Lane in EL Paso, Texas.

Like her brother Dr. Alvarez, Dr. Yvette Alvarez-Davis was intrigued by dentistry at an early age as she watched her mother, a dental assistant for many years, and grew up in and around dental offices. Dr. Alvarez-Davis began her studies at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where she was accepted in the Dental Early Acceptance Program. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Providing patients with effective preventative dental care and oral health education are among Dr. Alvarez-Davis's top priority. And as a mother, she understands the use of gentle, appropriate treatment. Dr. Alvarez-Davis is proud of her heritage and honored to have been born and raised in El Paso area. Dr. Alvarez-Davis joined Vista Hills Family Dental in March 2009. She looks forward to a long future of dental care and ensuring families in the El Paso community receive world-class treatment from a dentist who truly cares.

Dr. Karen Chandler grew up in the great outdoors of Maine. She attended the University of Maine and graduated with a B.A. in Biology. Great experiences with her childhood dentist led her to become interested in the profession, and in 2002 she graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts as the first dentist in her family. After graduation, Dr. Chandler served for six years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. She was stationed in Hawaii where she completed a two year residency program and earned Board Certification in General Dentistry and also earned her Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Chandler was deployed to Iraq for one year with the 21st Combat Support Hospital during Operation Iraqi Freedom where she provided dental care to Iraqi prisoners of war. Dr. Chandler now divides time between practicing dentistry and raising her three active children. She loves reading, running and cooking for her family. She became part of the Vista Hills Dental team in February of 2016 and is committed to providing her patients with compassionate care of the highest quality.

With an interest in dentistry from an early age, Dr. Thomas G. Marino began his dental studies in Boston, Massachusetts at Northeastern University, where he graduated and received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1979. He then went on to Tufts University, where he received his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry (DMD) from their School of Dental Medicine in 1983.

Dr. Marino is a specialist in Endodontics. He received this specialty certificate from the Post-Graduate Dental Education Program in Endodontics at Fort Gordon, Georgia in 1999. In addition, Dr. Marino is dedicated to staying involved in continuing dental education as well as his community. He is a member of the American Association of Endodontics and the American Dental Association. He is a board-eligible Endodontist and has been published in the Journal of Endodontics. He is also a member of the prestigious Order of Military Medical Merit. Dr. Marino joined Vista Hills Family Dental in March 2009 with the personal goal of always treating his patients with the utmost care and compassion. He believes you should always 'do the right thing and have fun doing it,' an attitude he brings to the office every day with him.

Dr. Jerry Shim was born in Korea. He received his Bachelor of Art in English and Literature and attended the post graduate program at Wayne State University in Michigan. In 1996 he graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.

He went on to specialize in orthodontics and attended the graduate school program at Loma Linda University where he graduated in 1999. He is a member of the ADA, AAO, and TDA. Dr. Shim strives to be an exceptional clinician, serving the community by restoring smiles. He believes that paying attention to the small details makes a huge difference when a case is complete.

We participate in turkey drives around the holidays. We roll up our sleeves for blood drives. We also love to help our local Girl Scout troops with their cookie sales (yes, even dentists have the occasional sweet tooth!). For us, El Paso is home.
