All dentists are not alike. So how do you know that you are going to call the dentist who is right for you? Do you know anything about the training of your dentist? Do you know anything about the philosophy of your dentist?

Dr. Virgil Gassoway, a life-long Chesterton resident, is a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry. He has received a Fellowship and a Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry. Less than one percent of the nations dentists have attained this prestigious status. This award, along with his Fellowship Award from the Academy of Dentistry for Children illustrates his commitment to his profession. He was recently honored with the Emeritus Award from the Academy of General Dentistry for his continued dedication to his profession and longstanding continuing education.

Dr. Gassoway has continued to learn and practice the latest and most reliable techniques in dentistry today. He is an active member in the Dental Study Club of NW Indiana, an affiliate of the internationally-renown Seattle Study Club. He has long-standing membership in the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society, and the National Federation of Independent Business.

Our professional staff is devoted to making your dental experience as comfortable as possible. We use a hospital grade autoclave to sterilize all of our instruments, and every room is decontaminated according to industry standards after each patient. For your comfort, we do have nitrous oxide (happy gas) available. Dr. Gassoway believes in giving each patient the personalized attention he deserves in a warm, caring environment.

In order to accomplish this goal, we do not participate in manage care plans, such as HMOs and PPOs. We are able to work with most traditional insurance plans. Most of our new patients are recommended by an already satisfied patient, not because they had to choose an unknown name from a list. On a personal note, Dr. Gassoway is fluent in German, has been a first-responder in the National Ski Patrol for 40 years, and has been a CPR instructor with the Red Cross.
