I obtained my dental degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C. I am licensed in both North and South Carolina. I am a member of the South Carolina Dental Association as well as the American Dental Association.
I grew up in Aiken, South Carolina but also spent a few years in the Florida Keys, which is why I always knew I wanted to practice dentistry near the ocean. I moved to Murrells Inlet in 1999 and soon opened Village Family Dental in December of 2000.
I married my wife, Sunshine, in 2003 and we have a little girl named Sailor. When I am not practicing dentistry I like to hunt and fish as much as possible. I hope your time at the beach will be as exciting for you as it has been for me.

Definitely THOUGHT this was a great place. I was going there since I was a child so I only saw fit that I would take my boys there because I absolutely LOVED their work and how they "show" they care but they definitely know how to fully dismiss your children especially when your a single mom. I called AHEAD of time due to the fact that BOTH my sons had Covid trying to LOOK OUT for others to make sure they don't get Covid and this morning I making a HUMAN mistake I simply forgot about my sons appointment they marked BOTH of them as NO SHOWS and now saying they can't take them AT ALL. I can understand the one I forgot about but to mark my kids NO SHOWS when they had Covid yea this "dentistry " Isn't what I thought at all. But they'll definitely take your money but not care if you make simple human mistakes such as FORGET an appointment or YOUR KIDS GETTING SICK they'll simply not care and gladly KICK YOU TO THE CURB WITH NO UNDERSTANDING . Yea that's great CUSTOMER SERVICE. Be blessed and UPDATE THE POLICY ALSO.

Everyone from the front office staff to Sam, our Dental Hygienist to our Dentist, Dr. Rearden are just amazing and very competent! Wonderful experience as always!

Dr. Rearden and his staff are the best! I have been a patient for a few years now and have always received excellent service. I had a dental emergency this week and although they were extremely busy, they were able to fit me in right away and kept me from prolonged pain. I would highly recommend Village Family Dental.

Great experience with my young daughter's exam and cleaning. Both Dr. Rearden and the hygienist took exceptional care and were clearly invested in my daughters best interest, not just the procedures that will make the most money (unlike some other national dental chains). IMPORTANT NOTE: Turn left on Newcastle Loop as their office is not in the same building as Glenn's Bay.

My two year old son had some extensive dental work that needed to be corrected. I was very nervous prior to his oral surgery due to his age & the amount of work required to correct his teeth. Dr. Olsen went above & beyond in saving his teeth & created a beautiful smile for him. I am very grateful for Dr. Olsen & the staff at Village Family Dental. I highly recommend Dr. Olsen. He was very professional & great with kids.

They felt it would be best for my son to have "gas" so they referred us to an oral surgeon. They did not just send us on our way with a list of surgeons; they made the calls for us and found someone that could get us in right then. They faxed our contact and insurance information to the surgeon when we were enroute; they did everything they could to make the tough situation as easy as possible. I am now switching both of my children to be permanent patients at Village Family Dental!

I love Dr John and his entire staff. He really is the best Dentist I have ever known. Highly professional, very little wait time although I understand there may be a time I have to wait. We have referred many of our friends. I really feel at ease while I am there. Kudos to the entire staff!!!
