My path to becoming a dentist began long before my formal dental education. My father was a dentist, and I watched as he gently and compassionately took care of his patients and helped them achieve a healthy smile.

Every year, advances made in dentistrythat can give you a healthier, more attractive smile, and can make your care more comfortable. As your dentist, Ive made sure I have the educational background and up-to-the-minute training to give you the best care possible. Prior to starting my practice, I completed the following education:

In addition, I exceed the number of required hours of continuing education for the dental profession by more than 50% every year. I have participated in extensive study in operative dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and periodontics. I also stay current on new technologies and research.

Every doctor has his or her own strengths. By interacting with other dentists and oral healthcare professionals, I share my knowledge with them and learn from them, as well. This enables me to provide you with informed, comfortable care. I am an active member of the:

Over the years, many people have encouraged me in my endeavors. Many of my patients have come to know me as a neighbor and friend. Whenever possible, I repay their trust and confidence by volunteering my time and expertise to the community of Poulsbo.

I started dating my wife, Kendra, while in college. During summer break I played on her dads softball team and I think she liked the way I looked in my baseball uniform. We were married the summer before I started dental school.

Kendra and I have three kids:Kayli, Cody, and Chloe. Kayli is married, Cody is preparing for graduate work, and Chloe is in college. Our Maltese, Lilly, is now the baby of our family. I like to stay active in my free time and can often be found snow skiing, participating in ultimate Frisbee, and playing tennis or softball.

We recognize that all our patients are unique and deserve to receive dental care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented dental team is committed to working with you and your family to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding dental experience every time you visit our practice.

Cracked teeth do not always show any visible signs of damage, but may present a variety of symptoms, including erratic pain when you chew with them, and pain or sensitivity to heat and cold. In many cases, the pain may come and go, making it difficult for your doctor to locate the source.

When the outer hard tissues of the tooth are cracked, chewing can cause movement of the pieces, and the pulp becomes irritated. When biting pressure is released, the crack can close quickly, resulting in a momentary, sharp pain. Irritation of the dental pulp can be repeated many times by chewing.

Eventually, the pulp will become damaged to the point where it can no longer heal itself. The tooth will not only hurt during chewing but may also become sensitive to extreme temperatures. In time, a cracked tooth may begin to hurt all by itself. Extensive cracks will lead to infection of the pulp tissue, even spreading to the bone and gum tissue that surround the tooth.

When a cusp (the pointed part of the chewing surface) becomes weakened, a fracture sometimes results. The weakened cusp may break off by itself or have to be removed by the endodontist. When this happens, the pain will usually be relieved. A fractured cusp rarely damages the pulp, so root canal treatment is seldom needed. Your tooth will usually be restored with a full crown by your dentist.

Some cracks extend from the chewing surface of the tooth vertically toward the root. A cracked tooth may not be completely separated into two distinct segments. Because of the position of the crack, damage to the pulp is common. Root canal treatment is frequently needed to treat the injured pulp.

A split tooth is often the result of long-term progression of a cracked tooth. The split tooth is identified by a crack with distinct segments that can be separated. A split tooth cannot be saved intact. The position and extent of the crack, however, will determine whether a part of the tooth can be saved. In rare instances, endodontic treatment and a crown or other restoration by your dentist may be used to save a portion of the tooth.

Vertical root fractures are cracks that begin in the root of the tooth and extend toward the chewing surface. They often show minimal signs and symptoms and may therefore go unnoticed until the surrounding bone and gum become infected. Treatment may entail extraction of the tooth. However, endodontic surgery is sometimes appropriate if a portion of the tooth can be saved by removal of the fractured root.

Early diagnosis is important. Even with high magnification and special lighting, it can be challenging to determine the extent of a crack. A cracked tooth that is not treated will progressively worsen, and eventually result in the loss of the tooth. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to saving these teeth.

The entire staff makes a visit to the dentist comfortable and relaxed. Other dentists offices have made me uncomfortable and had a weird feel to them, but not here.

I just had my final cleaning with Tessa today. Great job Tessa. Dr. Broadbent stopped in for a moment to wish me well. We are moving to Texas and will miss Village Dental a lot. After over 20 years of excellent care, we must say good by. You have been wonderful and we will not forget you all, for all you have done for us, and your heated toilet seat. Trish & Ken Oliver

Dr. Scott Broadbent's dental office is one of the most professional yet personally friendly dental practices we have experienced. The entire appointment from scheduling, to reminders, to greeting, to a short wait, to highly competent and up to date dental service is great. They are very patient friendly. Thank you to Dr. Scott and all the staff who really know how to make a possibly nervous experience a pleasant visit.

I highly recommend Village Dental. We've tried three local dentists since we moved here two years ago. At both others we were hit with the "you need a super clean" at extra cost. At one, the dentist never appeared so my wife got a hygienist checkup vs. a dentist check up. Village Dental was completely different. Cleaning was "normal" (despite a long gap since the last one), Dr Broadbent spent a lot of time with me. The staff was great. Again, highly recommended. (And relieved that we finally found a good dentist).

Village Dental is an incredible team of PROFESSIONALS that just take care of you. No worries. I love the folks in the office, all of them! The dental hygienist, Pat, today was just great. Makes you feel right at home. Totally honest, incredibly competent, Village Dental is an institution that I really admire. In fact, I drive there all the way from Port Townsend (an hour away) rather than stay close. Now that's commitment! Kent

My Dental Tech is engaged and very professional. My cleanings take about 45 minutes and from the moment I call in from the parking lot till the time I leave I know exactly what to expect. I currently drive from Lacey to receive quality care.

The staff at Village Dental are all professional, polite, and they make sure you are at ease. They have great safety measures concerning COVID. My dental hygienist (Tessa) is wonderful. She is a pleasure to talk to, and she does a great job cleaning my teeth. She is gentle but gets the job done. Dr. Broadbent is also friendly and answers any questions I have.
