Dr. Stephen Sandler graduated fromFranklin and Marshall Collegewith a degree in English, and graduated fromNew York University College of Dentistry, after which he served in the United States Air Force Dental Corps. He opened this practice in 1983, and is happily married to Karen. He has two wonderful children, Ben and Elana, and is owned by a 17 lb Bichon Frise, Piper. He enjoys fishing and helping construct theater sets at a community theater in Montclair. His goal is to help each patient live longer, healthier lives.[emailprotected]
Maria has been a licensed dental hygienist in the State of New Jersey for many years now. She is committed to providing quality dental care and will always take the time to answer all your questions and address any concerns that you may have. Maria is a very warm and caring person, and she is devoted to keeping current with new dental developments and techniques by frequently attending lecture series and partaking in specialized training. Maria strives to continue to raise the bar.
Maxima is our dental assistant and a pre-dental student who graduated from William Paterson University of NJ. Her goal is to provide quality service, comfort, positivity and welcomes all patients with a bright and cheerful smile. As a pre-dental student and dental assistant, Maximas favorite part of dentistry is seeing the positive life-changing results that cosmetic dentistry can provide for patients. She loves spending her free time studying in coffee shops (Starbucks to be exact), and trying new food. Maxima's hobbies are playing tennis, basketball, rock-climbing, and walking her little shih-poo to the dog park.
Doreen started working in the dental field when she was 17 years old. She took several years off when she had children. Once the girls were older, she went back to work in the schools but missed the interaction she had with the patients. She is very caring and wants the best smiles and overall health for our patients.

What is hypnosis?Hypnosis is a normal state of mind that people go in and out of frequently. People have the misconception that hypnosis is mind control or loss of awareness, but its actually more like meditation. The state of hypnosis is very similar to whats known as runners high or being in the zone.. With hypnotherapy, patients knowingly enter this hypnotic state; then Dr. Sandler helps them modify or remove the barriers that are involved with the problem.
What conditions, or behaviors, can hypnosis or hypnotherapy address?Hypnosis can help with many problems It has also been useful for alleviating stress, anxiety, fears (for example, fear of flying or dentistry), boosting self-confidence, and in pain management, healing, and other situations.
Can hypnosis work for everyone?Yes, although some people respond better to suggestion than others. People can enter different levels of hypnosis. What is required is a willingness and desire for change. The ability to focus can help a person more quickly and effectively enter a hypnotic state.A deep hypnotic state is not always necessary to accomplish a persons goals; a light state is usually adequate.
A hypnotic state is natural . Have you ever driven somewhere and not really noticed the drive? Have you read a book, or seen a good movie and not noticed how much time has passed? People go into and out of this state frequently... With hypnosis, we help you use that experience to make a useful change.
Will I remember the session? Will I do things I wouldn't usually do, or discuss subjects I'd rather not discuss?Yes, you will remember what happens under hypnosis., and no, you will not do (or say) anything that you dont want to do during your dental visit.
What should I expect at my first visit?We will gather general information and your medical history, then discuss your concerns and goals, or what you want to achieve. Dr. Sandler will explain the process and answer all of your questions. He will then go through a basic session to introduce you to hypnotherapy. Most people find this introduction normal, natural, and very relaxing.

While in Verona for an extended family visit, I was overdue for a cleaning. Dr. Sandler, my family's dentist, was able to fit me in on short notice. His staff was welcoming and professional, as was he, and he took the time needed to thoroughly explore my dental situation. Without undue pressure, he advised me on next steps to stay on top of some potential problems. I was glad I made the decision to pursue the routine care from Dr. Sandler -- I highly recommend him.

Dr. Sandler is wonderfully professional and personable. I am usually terrified of going to the dentist, but he and his amazing staff have eased my mind. His sense of humor is a treat. My daughter travels from out of state to see him. Marvelous, thorough care. Such attention to detail. Highly recommend!

I will say that Dr. Sandler and his staff were nice but there was a huge lack of communication that really put me off. I went in for a general cleaning, I was told I had major grinding issues and to come back the following week. I come back thinking I'm here to discuss these grinding issues but he starts prepping his tools, I ask if he can please explain to me what we're about to do, instead he just starts working on my mouth. Turns out I was coming in to get a cavity filled and had no idea. AFTER, he shows me how the cavity filler works which is not what I wanted to know, I wanted to know why I was even there! I asked when we could discuss my grinding issues and he said he'd call me. He never did.

Dr. Sandler and all of his staff are amazing! Everyone is very caring, polite and professional. Dr. Sandler is very accommodating with his time - he always takes the time to clearly explain everything that is needed get my teeth in perfect condition. I have had several cavities and I'm usually very nervous when I need to get them fixed, however, Dr. Sandler and his staff have always made me feel very calm and relaxed. The dental costs are affordable and definitely worth the cost to have such a great dentist. I've recommend Dr. Sandler to all of my family and friends and would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants great dentist!

Dr. Sandler and his staff (particularly Doreen) are some of the friendliest, most accommodating people I have ever met. I haven't gone to a dentist in over a decade because of my general fears of needles in my mouth, but Dr. Sandler was very patient and calm explaining everything to me. He also uses a multi-stage technique that almost completely eliminated any discomfort or pain in his procedures. He also agreed to meet me late night on super short notice to look at a store tooth, during a pandemic! I actually look forward, now, to going to see him as he is also a rather erudite fellow and I enjoy just conversing with him. One last thing I want to mention is that Doreen, the office manager, has gone way above and beyond wrestling with my dental insurance company for me to ensure that they cover what they said they would cover. Overall, I regret not coming to Dr. Sandler ten years ago.
