Dr. Clay VanderWall feels grateful to be a part of the rewarding world of orthodontics. He finds that creating healthy, new smiles and seeing the impact this has on his patients self-esteem is one of the most gratifying aspects of being an orthodontist. Dr. VanderWall truly enjoys making a positive difference in the lives of children, teenagers and adults.
Dr. VanderWall attended Kalamazoo College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Health Sciences. He spent a semester doing research at the Dental Research Center of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he wrote his Senior Individualized Project (SIP). He furthered his studies at the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Dentistry, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1999. He graduated with honors and was inducted into the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU). He also received the Pierre Fauchard Academy Student Award and was a recipient of the Health Professions Scholarship from the United States Navy.
Dr. VanderWall attended a three-year, post-doctoral orthodontic residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA where he earned his orthodontic specialty certificate. The Einstein residency was the first fully accredited hospital-based orthodontic program in the United States.
Upon graduating from dental school, Dr. VanderWall served on active duty in the United States Navy. He completed a hospital-based General Practice Residency at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. He was then the Dental Officer for Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 (NMCB-5) stationed out of Port Hueneme, CA. He was responsible for the dental care of the battalions 600 members while in homeport and on deployments to Okinawa, Japan and Rota, Spain. Dr. VanderWall left active duty in order to attend his orthodontic residency. He reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander while serving in the inactive ready reserves.
Dr. VanderWall fulfilled his dream of opening his own practice, VanderWall Orthodontics. He has three convenient locations offering orthodontics in Raleigh, Durham and Cary. His treatment philosophy revolves around continually working for the best results while addressing the individual needs of each patient. He develops customized treatment plans designed to create beautiful smiles that promote dental health for a lifetime.
Dr. VanderWall grew up in the town of Grand Haven, MI. During his schooling and military service, he had the opportunity to live in several different areas of the United States. He and his wife, Coryn, believe the Triangle area is the ideal place to raise their young family. With three young children, Ian, Elle and Evan, they are now happy to call the area home.

It took me a while before posting this review. I was previous seen at another orthodontist in the area where I had my braces put on, I wasn't pleased with the service. I came to Vanderwall for a second opinion concerning the placement of my brackets. After consultation, Vanderwall recommended my braces be taken off, visit a dentist for cleaning and come back. I agreed, I paid 250.00 down to begin my treatment (removable of braces and replaced)as the contract stated. The old braces were removed. I was then told by Vanderwall to call back for appointment to have the braces put back on. I had the cleaning done, I called back complained about the removal of my braces caused ugly noticeable lines on one of my front tooth where he drilled to far causing lines on the enamel. I called back to make an appointment twice they never returned my call. Long story short, they took my 250.00 and never heard from them again . I called several times NOTHING! 250.00 for taking off my braces ? Waste of time and MONEY!!

We are absolutely in love with Vanderwall Orthodontics. Excellent service and my little one is extremely comfortable in the chair. We love the Covid measures that are in place and thankful for the staff. My husband and I are excited to see the results for our daughter.

Great service and friendly staffs. I was recommended to come here by a friend, and I'm glad I came. Not only that my teeth turn out amazing, but I also had a very comfortable and a nice experience with everyone working there. I recommend VanderWall Orthodontics 100 percent.

Dr. VanderWall and his whole team delivered the best level of care! He fixed my teeth up quickly and perfectly with Invisalign and made it easy to do. The staff up front were beyond helpful with my sometimes crazy requests, as I moved halfway through my treatment. I highly recommend this office!

Where do I start? The very best Orthodontic Office in the area or maybe the world! Dr. V did my young son's braces years back, and his teeth are still beautiful (he will soon be 14). I recently got my braces off, and I can't stop smiling. This office is perfect in every way. I will be referring everyone I know to them. With the quality you get you would think they would charge you an arm and a leg, but nope! The pricing is so affordable, but you get soooo much more than you pay for. The office staff is so very friendly and pleasant! They go above and beyond!! Especially Dawn who I just can't say enough about. She is WONDERFUL!! I personally loved going to every visit, and was always greeted with a smile. Dr. V and his office have went above and beyond countless times, but most of all he is master at what he does. I have another son who is 9 years old who also braces, and I'm just waiting for my flexible spending account to renew on Jan 1st to get him started!!

I was referred to VanderWall Orthodontics by my sister. Needless to say, I'm happy I followed through in going. Dr. Vanderwall and his staff are friendly and always have a welcoming environment. I really appreciate being acknowledged by name. It is rare to have a doctor acknowledge you on a first name basis rather than just their patient.
