Dr. Matthew VanderLaan was born in Grand Rapids, and grew up in Kentwood. After graduating from East Kentwood High School in 2001, he earned his Bachelor in Science degreein 2005,followedby his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2009, both from the University of Michigan. Dr. VanderLaan spent the first three years of his career working at a community clinic, serving Medicaid and Welfare patients. He then purchased a long standing practice from Dr. George Cripps and began VanderLaan Family Dentistry May of 2012. The office moved from its original office of 45 years in Cutlerville, to the new, state-of-the-art facility located in Byron Center in December of 2014. Dr. VanderLaan is committed to providing his patients with the most personalized and comprehensive care possible, and does so by actively pursuing the continuing education in all areas of dentistry. Dr. VanderLaan currently resides in Byron Center with his wife, Dana, and his children, Brooke, Jenna, AJ, and Nora. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and West Michigan District Dental Society. He has also had advanced technical training at the Kois Center, a world renowned training center for dentists

10/31/22 Just had my first appointment today and I feel very confident in the dentist and the staff members within the office for the treatment that I will receive. I will update this review as The progress of future appointments.

I love this office. The staff are all very professional, caring and the office is beautiful. Dr. VanderLaan did an excellent job on my crown. I highly recommend.

This practice does not accept any dental insurance. We learned this only when we arrived for our dental appointments and not when we scheduled our appointments. This was not a patient-friendly decision because it only benefits the practice. We will be finding another dentist.

I had a tooth pulled. I really had a great professional experience. Dr. Vanderlaan was SO nice and caring. He really cares about what he does. He wants what's best for YOU. The staff is also extremely kind and caring. The inside of the office is also so nice! I highly recommend!

2022: Got my first crown recently. Dr. V and his staff made it much easier than expected. The same-day crown service was a big plus...two 45 minute visits 3 hours apart and it was done. They made the crown right in their lab. A little discomfort during the tooth prep but not an ounce of pain. Great fit too...a few weeks later I can't even tell its a crown! 2019: Great dental office! The staff at VanderLaan Family Dentistry make it a painless and pleasant experience. Everyone is so friendly and kind, little wait time, and a very nice office. Dr. V. is super professional and thorough...this guy really knows his teeth and will ensure you have a beautiful, healthy smile :)
