Dr. Gary Van Hofwegen is a native of northwest Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1978. Since that time, he has been in private practice in Spencer, IA. He enjoys all aspects of family dentistry including cosmetics, restorative, endodontics and some oral surgery. Dr. Gary has two grown sons, Jonathan and Michael and a third son, Charlie at home. In his spare time, he enjoys boating, biking, hiking, reading, and traveling with his wife, Daniele.
Dr. Doug Van Hofwegen grew up in northwest Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1983. He spent five years in the United States Air Force as a general dentist and joined Dr. Gary in 1988. Doug enjoys all facets of general dentistry including restorative, endodontics (root canals), oral surgery and cosmetics.
He is married to Julie and has 5 children and 9 grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his kids and grandkids, flying, and traveling. He is a member of Hope Reformed Church and a member of the Luke Society a Christian medical mission organization.
Dr. Josh Munter moved to northwest Iowa to join Van Hofwegen Family Dentistry in July 2002 after graduating from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He became a partner in the practice in July of 2005. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry including restorative, implant restorations, and dentures. He is married to Alison and has three children, Max, Cate and Reese. When hes not working, he enjoys golfing, boating and exercising at CrossFit Spencer.
Denise graduated from the University of Minnesota Mankato in 2002 and has been employed as a dental hygienist in our office since November 2002. She is married to Doug and has 2 children, Brandon and Kiana. In her spare time, she enjoys sports, walking, boating and spending time with family and friends.
Kaitlynn graduated from Hawkeye Community College in 2012. She joined our office in 2016. She is married to Cole and has two daughters, Fiona and Stella. In her free time, she enjoys watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes and the Vikings, many outdoor activities and spending time with her family.
Kate graduated from Iowa Central in 2017 with her degree in Dental Hygiene, and started working at our office upon completion. She and her husband have three sons, Brycen, Rylee, and Ryker. In her spare time she enjoys being outside with her family.
Lisa graduated from Des Moines Area Community College in 2001 & has been employed as a dental hygienist in our office since June of 2002. She has 2 children, Miles & Jolie. In her spare time, she enjoys walks, golfing, sports & spending time with friends and family.
Heather has been a certified, expanded function dental assistant since 2002. She also graduated with her RN Degree in 2006. She has been working alongside Dr. Munter for the past 17 years. Heather is married to her husband Mark, they have 3 children Noah, Chloe and Saddie.
Kori graduated from DMACC in August 2004 with her dental assisting degree. She and her husband David have 3 kids, Davin, Dakoda & Dixon. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors-gardening, camping & spending time with her family.
Kris has been a dental assistant with Van Hofwegen & Munter Family Dentistry since 2003. She has been married to her husband, Frank for 32 years. She has 2 daughters, 2 sons-in-law and 2 grandchildren. In her spare time, she likes playing board games with her grandchildren, spending time with family, watching football and taking road trips with her husband.
Leslie graduated from Western Iowa Tech in 2011 from the dental assisting program. She is a board certified and registered dental assistant and also has her expanded function certification. Leslie and her husband Scott, have one son Hudson. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends & family and gardening.
Angela joined Van Hofwegen & Munter Family Dentistry in 2010. She has been in the dental field for over 20 years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, and being outdoors.
Jessica joined the Van Hofwegen & Munter team as the Office Manager in November of 2020. With 15 years of dental experience, she loves to see people smile and her goal is to always make sure every patient has the best possible dental experience. Jessica and her husband Spencer, have two young children, Henry and Stella. In her spare time, she loves to travel and spend time outdoors with friends and family.
A native Texan, Sandy recently moved to the Spencer area with her husband of 15 years, Joseph, & their two children Irie & Ruby. In between all of lifes responsibilities Sandy and her family enjoy hiking, fishing, kayaking and foraging for wild edibles. They are active members of the community & attend the First Congregational Church of Spencer where Joseph is Director of Family Ministries. She strives to help preserve healthy smiles and to make each visit as comfortable and compassionate for all our patients as possible.
