I am a general dentist who welcomes patients of all ages, from young children to those who are advanced in years yet still young at heart. I would love to address your dental and oral health care needs. I am a believer that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. My goal is to keep you healthy and prevent dental disease before it occurs; however, we all know that sometimes things break down or need to be repaired. When that time comes, I will provide you with the highest quality dental care and work with you to provide treatment options that fit both your needs and your goals.
high school math teacher. After this, I returned to school to pursue a career in dentistry. I graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2015. I am passionate about providing high quality health care that meets you where you are, working together to achieve your goals.
I am married to a wonderful woman, Lisa, and have been blessed with two amazing boys - Zeke and Ezra. They are fun loving little guys who keep us on our toes and make sure our home is always full of laughter.

I would give more then 5 stars if I could. I have recently started going to see Dr. Van Hemert. I haven't been to a dentist in a while and it's hard to admit that. I deal with anxiety everyday. The first day I walked into his office, the ladies and the Dr made me feel so comfortable. They could tell I was nervous but kept smiling and talking to me. Love that I found a dentist that is patient and kind. We talk about football and other sports. I'm not just another patient to him. I matter! When I went back to get some work done, my anxiety was rough. The ladies kept checking on me and didn't leave me alone long at all. I really appreciate the kindness from them all. I have finally found my dentist!! Thank you Dr. Van Hemert and staff for making me feel important and comfortable going to a dentist again!! I highly recommend them!!

This was my first time of having some work done at Dr. Van Hemert. I was very impressed by how he told me what he was doing and how careful he worked in my mouth. I'm so very glad I chose him as my dentist.

Highly recommend this office to everyone! All the assistants and hygienists are amazing and personable. Dr. Van shows such great competence and confidence which helps me to trust him and feel comfortable. As someone who has significant anxiety when it comes to the dentist, they help keep it to a minimum. Even with the stress and the changes that they needed to make in the last year related to the pandemic, they make me happy I have chosen to go to VHFD.

I had my first dental appointment the new office. I was disappointed the hygienist did not do as thorough of a job on cleaning my teeth, seemed to be in a hurry? Also, Dr. VanHemert did not introduce himself or really acknowledge me as a new patient. I was not even offered a new tooth brush and paste to go with my very expensive teeth cleaning. Redacted review. Spoke with Dr. VAN, was able to rectify my concerns and feel satisfied with the result. Went back to have a chip on my tooth fixed, very happy with the results and I was able to re-establish with my previous hygienist. Can't wait to return in April. Thank you.

I love all the ladies that work in this office. Very sweet and helpful. I've loved going to them for many years now. However, I'm very disappointed to discover that it seems Dr. Van Hemert cares more about money than he does his patients. I'm a single working mom with no dental insurance (but I've had the same job for 14 years, its just too small to offer dental insurance). I had a lot of dental work to be done so Dr. Van Hemert and I created a treatment plan and also set up a payment plan with his office and have had payments automatically taken out every month, didn't miss one payment or appointment. Halfway through our treatment plan, he decides the balance is too high and he is not going to finish the rest of my dental work until I pay the balance in full. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do that so I was forced to cancel my already set up appointments for the rest of my fillings. I wish this could have been explained to me before we began this treatment plan and payment plan as I would have went somewhere else that wouldn't have stopped treating me halfway through our treatment plan.

Dr. Van and his staff are the best!! From the moment I walked into the office I felt comfortable and that's a feat for me! I usually struggle with going to the dentist and Dr. Van makes it so easy. He has a great smile and wants to get to know you as well as take care of your dental health. That focus on caring for the whole person is what keeps me coming back. Dr Van explains every step in his process and he and his staff always provide great customer service.
