Dr. Van De Walle grew up in Hondo, TX as the youngest of seven children. He attended Texas A&M University and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Civil Engineering. After a brief three year stint working in the engineering field, he decided to start a career as a dentist. Dr. Van De Walle attended dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, graduating Cum Laude in 2004. Van De Walle Family Dentistry has been open in San Marcos since 2005.
Dr. Tompkins grew up in Cypress, TX just outside of Houston. He attended Texas A&M University after which he attended UT Medical Branch in Galveston where he earned a masters degree and became a Physician Assistant. Dr. Tompkins and his wife moved to San Marcos, where he worked for several years in a family medicine clinic as well as the emergency department at CTMC. He then chose to pursue a different career and attended dental school at UTHSCSA. In dental school, Dr. Tompkins received the Delta Dental Student Leadership Award as well as the Dr. Robert Dale Award for outstanding compassionate patient care. After graduating dental school he attended a one year residency at UTHSCSA, studying IV and oral sedation, as well as implant placement and bone grafting procedures. Today, Dr. Tompkins enjoys spending time with his wife Chesney, who is a social studies teacher at New Braunfels Middle School, their two children, Emery, and Lucas, as well as their two dogs, Duke and Dixie. Dr. Tompkins also enjoys hunting, fishing, and anything about Aggie sports.

I am very happy with my experience with this office. The front desk staff was so sweet and helpful. They made me feel very welcomed. The dental assistant was super nice and helpful. The dentist truly cares for his patients and I am going to recommend this to everyone I know. SO SO SO happy with the service I received.

Wonderful experience! Staff was warm and made you feel comfortable whether you are waiting in the waiting room or getting your teeth cleaned. Dr. Van De Walle is fantastic and is a true dentist explaining any issues you may have with your teeth. He is very personable and isn't just trying to do extra fillings and dental work to make more money. Highly recommend Dr. Van De Walle and his office.

I was referred by a close friend and mentor to this practice. I know am going to be the one to refer them to everyone I know. Went in with tooth pain Walked out same day pain free. Incredible service from booking to checking out. Serena at the front desk was phenomenal and so informative and accommodating.

Amazing Staff and service! They were able to set my daughter up for an appointment (new patient) this included an X-ray, exam and Cleaning. She needed two fillings and they were able to fit her in that day! Friendly, Flexible and Honest!!!

I'm a college student here and chose this office to get a second opinion from an appointment from back home. Instead of just telling me what needs to be done, they actually sat down with me and worked with me on what I can do to help my teeth. The dentist never once acted as if I needed to do as he said without questioning. I will definitely be continuing to go here as a patient.

I can't say enough how much I loved my experience here. Dr Vandewalle is amazing, his staff is amazing.. I have dentist anxiety, and he did everything to make sure I was comfortable. If I could give this office a bajillion stars, I would!!

My husband and I have been going to Dr Van de Walle for a very long time. I can highly recommend him to patients who are afraid of dentistry. He and his staff are wonderful. They definitely have gone above and beyond to keep me as comfortable with the process as possible. And, he was able to help me avoid potential mouth health issues from medications when i called him for some advice about specialized oral care needs. The dental technicians and office staff as just as great. Definitely my best dental experiences.

Everyone there is very kind & knowledgeable. They let me know what needs to be done for my teeth but, never make me feel rushed or pressured to fix them ASAP. They understand that not everyone can afford the necessary repairs without saving up. Also had my teeth cleaned today & they feel wonderful. The hygienist did an awesome job I would definitely recommend this office to anyone needing dental work done.

I would recommend this place to literally everyone. I have anxiety and bad dental anxiety, and they made me feel really comfortable. Both the doctor and the assistant made it known that they knew that and were very gentle. I will be planning all of my future visits here!
