Dr. Scott Dunaway, earned his bachelors and doctoral degrees at West Virginia University. Upon graduating from dental school in1997, Dr. Dunaway remained at WVU Hospital for an additional year to broaden his knowledge and expertise by completing a general practice residency.
Following his residency, Dr. Dunaway worked as an associate at a large practice in Maryland before accepting a position as the pioneer dentist in a new branch of the E.A. Hawse Health Clinic in Mathias, WV. Dr. Dunaway practiced in this area for two years before opening his private practice in the greater Harrisonburg-Rockingham community. Dr. Dunaway has attended many continuing education courses including The Dawson Academy and anine-month long implant course the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Johnson was raised in Newport News, VA. He then went to James Madison University and graduated with a degree in Chemistry in 1983. At that time, he was accepted to the Medical College of Virginia for Dental School. In 4 years, he earned his Doctor in Dental Surgery in 1987.
After 6 years of living in Richmond with school and in practice, Greg really wanted to return to the Harrisonburg area that he fell in love with while attending JMU. In 1988, he started a private practice called SmileMakers and worked there for over 30 years. After doing many short-term dental mission trips, he and his wife, Stacey, decided to move down to Patagonia, Chile and focus full-time on the language, culture and mission work.
Now, Dr. Greg returns to life and dentistry in the US. With his many years of continuing education, he is proficient in all aspects of dentistry including orthodontic, TMD, implants, root canals and many other surgeries. In his spare time Greg enjoys tennis, cycling, photography, traveling and of course helping others less fortunate.
In 1990, Alla moved to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley from Ukraine, and is fluent in Ukrainian and Russian. Alla has been in the dental field since 2003, starting out as a dental assistant, prior to graduating from Virginia Western Community College, in 2008, where she earned her AAS degree in dental hygiene. She married her husband, Andriy, in 2007, and they have two wonderful children, Matthew and Zachary. Alla loves spending time with her family, leisure bike riding, reading, music and teaching Sunday school. Alla truly cares for her patients and her friendly smile brightens the office each day.

Everyone in the office is so nice and personable! They make sure that you're comfortable during your entire visit. They go above and beyond for their patients, whether it's during a simple cleaning or a more complicated procedure.

Dr. Greg Johnson started my care right out of pediatric dentistry. I had my orthodontic work, wisdom teeth removal & all of my regular dentistry work. I was super bummed when he moved the Chile, but was SO HAPPY when he came back & decided to join this practice. As a patient, I have anxiety of switching providers & even hygienists. Chasity (MY GIRL ) also used to be my hygienist with Dr. Greg at my former dentist office. The two of them together is truly the dream team for me. The facility of Valley Smile Care was very clean, professional & I immediately felt like I was home. The ladies at checkin & checkout were extremely friendly as well. It was so nice to be happy again with my dentistry care & catch back up with Dr. Greg. Thank you for putting my care & thoughts FIRST. Being a healthcare worker, I have expectations as a patient on what good care is. & this place, SETS THE BAR. If you are thinking of making the switch to become a new patient at this office, DO IT.

Excellent dentist and caring staff. My husband, children, and I have been been going there for 10+ years. The dental hygienist are gentle and kind. The dentist is personable and does amazing work.

I have been with Dr. Dunaway for several years. I have never been a fan of the dentist. Dr. Dunaway and his staff has changed that, they are an awesome group. They make the visit pleasant and relaxing. I had a complete implant system put in. The professionalism and care Dr. Dunaway put in and showed was beyond reproach. If I could recommend or convince someone to see these folks I guarantee they will not be disappointed. Great quality workmanship and even better people. Dain

Dr.Dunaway and his staff are top notch professionals. When you walk in you are treated like family. The perfect mix of humor and professionalism. The first time in my life that I don't mind going to the dentist. The front office staff are also amazing. Beautiful office and very clean and cared for. I feel as though they really care. I started coming here in 2015 when Dr. Messmer was still here. Have since seen Dr. Dunaway for regular cleanings and now Dr. Johnson for orthodontics. I love these guys! Even after moving 40 minutes away, I. Can't. Leave. They're all so good. The hygienists are all great, thorough, and take extra care if you have any sensitivities or fears. The ladies up front are always on top of things and always friendly. I cannot recommend this practice enough!
