Valley Ridge Family Dental - General dentist in West Des Moines, IA

Dr. Johnson received her doctorate in dental science, DDS, from the University of Iowa in 2007. She began practicing at that time and opened her current practice in April 2012. Dr. Johnson is a general dentist who focuses on overall oral health and preventative dentistry for families. Her commitment to patient education sets her apart. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Iowa Dental Association, the Des Moines District Dental Association, and the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce.

On a personal level, she is married and has three children. Her family also includes a beloved cat and dog. Dr. Johnson loves cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. Her favorite sports team is the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Pam is a registered dental assistant at Valley Ridge Family Dental. She received her certification from Des Moines Area Community College. Pam earned her Expanded Functions Dental Assisting certification in 2012.

Cathy graduated from Des Moines Area Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Cathy enjoys volunteering with the School Smiles program as well as with the Iowa Mission of Mercy. She is licensed to provide both local anesthesia and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation in order to keep you comfortable during your visit. Cathy enjoys attending many continuing education classes throughout the year to keep current on the latest treatments and is very passionate about educating her patients in order to help them improve their oral health.

The worst! I wish there were a zero star option. My 70 year old mother now has multiple problems with her teeth because of this dentist. She pushes procedures that are unnecessary creating more problems. First, she removed a filling that was in perfectly good shape but it was silver. She suggested changing it to a white filling and unfortunately my mom believed it was the correct thing to do. Two weeks later that tooth fell apart. Second, my mom needed a crown on another tooth and Dr. Johnson told my mother she would need crown lengthening which is a very painful procedure. Thankfully, based on previous terrible advice from Dr. Johnson, my mom was smart enough to get a second opinion. Sure enough, the new dentist indicated crown lengthening is NOT necessary, and the previous silver filing should have never been removed. This has created multiple problems and my mom has a terrible infection in her mouth now. The new dentist prescribed not one, but two strong antibiotics. My mom will now need a root canal in the tooth that fell apart due to Dr. Johnson's horrible work. I am so furious about what my mom is going through. Trust me, Stay Away from this dentist!

This place is the best dentist I've been to in DSM area. They're punctual, kind, and the dentist's work is impeccable!

I have been a patient here for several years after moving to the Des Moines area. I love that I am seen on time, they are up to date with technology, and they actually take the time to explain everything to me. Top notch care in a friendly atmosphere! My kids love coming too!

Dr. Johnson does a fantastic job and has the best dental staff in town. They are always extremely helpful and nice! I can't recommend Valley Ridge Family Dental enough!

Wonderful Staff and treatment. My daughter had two cavities and they were filled without incident. My daughter felt very little discomfort and looked forward to her next appointment! They did a fabulous job cleaning my teeth, as well!

I just left my appointment here which was my first visit. I will NOT go back. My appointment was for a cleaning. I sat in the chair for an hour only to get xrays and a list of work they want me to have done. I asked if they were going to clean my teeth today, they said NO. They wanted me to come back for a "super" cleaning. I stated that I really wanted my teeth cleaned that day as my retainer was really bothering me and they wouldn't do it. What the heck!? So they wouldn't give me a cleaning , but wanted me to make an appointment to come back for suggested work. NO WAY. Also, very tacky how they have their receptionist randomly call people back who were on the caller id, but did not leave a message. Very Sales Driven - Not much heart. I would NOT give a recommendation for this Dental Office. Sorry!

I have been a patient of Dr. Johnson's for almost two years. I transferred from another office where I felt like I was just another number. Here I felt more welcomed and relaxed. They are very thorough and explained my needs well. I even got to see my X-Rays and up close photos of an area I was concerned with that turned out to be no big deal! I look forward to seeing them every six months.

Dr. Johnson and her staff are very informative! They provide a comfortable environment for every family. There has never been a fuss with our children going to see the dentist since becoming patients. She is able to answer all of the questions you might have. Don't dread going to see the dentist anymore...

I had my first visit today and was very happy with the atmosphere and treatment I received. The office is new and VERY clean! Love that I got to look at the photos and x-rays that were taken, something that my old office did not offer. I really feel like they care and want to help me be as comfortable as possible. I will definitely be going back.

Dr. Johnson and her staff are very informative! They provide a comfortable environment for every family. There has never been a fuss with our children going to see the dentist since becoming patients. She is able to answer all of the questions you might have. Don't dread going to see the dentist anymore...

I had my first visit today and was very happy with the atmosphere and treatment I received. The office is new and VERY clean! Love that I got to look at the photos and x-rays that were taken, something that my old office did not offer. I really feel like they care and want to help me be as comfortable as possible. What a rip off place!!! So I got a root canal and needed to get a crown for my tooth. I called them to ask for the price and they said that I needed to come to the office so the dentist would look at it and give me an estimate. I already filled out all the papers and was waiting for the dentist when front desk girl told me that the check-up would be 108$... with an x-ray.. OK, I said. But I already got all the x-rays I need. You can just call my endodontist and they will email it to you. She was like "Ok. It's a good idea!" (no way...) I thought since the x-rays are the most expensive part, the check-up wouldn't be too expensive. Though I still couldn't really understand what I need the check-up for.. Dr Johnson looked at my tooth for 2 seconds. "Confirming" that I need a crown and brought me an estimate. That's it. I paid 80$ for her to tell me that I need a crown. Which I already knew. And she started asking me right away if she could schedule a cleaning for me and if I would be interested in whitening my teeth, etc, etc... I know part of it was my own fault. I should've asked about the check-up price first. Sorry but it's not the way to do business. Waiting till the moment when it's too embracing for the client to leave and then tell them how much it actually is. I know I won't come back to that place.

I have been a patient of Dr. Johnson's for several years. She is very consistent with how thorough she is and she takes care of you in a timely manner. I have a filling on a front tooth she's done due to a defect that turned into a cavity. Nobody knows it's there and I have to think hard to remember which tooth it was. I've never had a bad experience with Dr. Johnson in my visits with her. I'm very strict about service! She's one of the fastest dentists that doesn't take away from quality. I was upset that I had to move away due to change of work. Nobody around me has been very good so I drive quite a ways to visit. I highly recommend visiting Dr. Johnson. She's got a Keurig machine and is great with kids too! The office is very clean and it's beautiful. Oh and the dental chairs are super comfy!
