Working together to better serve our communities makes us stronger, focused on collaboration instead of competition. As a team, The University of Vermont Health Networkimproves the lives of our patients by delivering outstanding care cost-effectively, as close to patient'shomes as possible.

Our hospitals and physicians are bringing the best of community and academic medicine together, sharing their knowledge and resources to give patients access to leading-edge technology, advanced treatment options and the highest level of compassionate care -the heart and science of medicine.

Our network was created in October 2011 when Fletcher Allen in Burlington, Vermont, and Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vermont, signed an affiliation agreement. In January 2013, New York partners Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh and Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown joined the affiliation. In May 2017 Porter Medical Center joined the affiliation. On January 1, 2018, the UVM Health Network Home Health & Hospice (formerly the VNA of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties) joined the network. (The network was originally called Fletcher Allen Partners.)

The University of Vermont Health Network's Board of Trustees is comprised of up to 22 members. Up to 20 members are nominated by the Networks governance committee through a nomination process designed to select trustees with diverse skills and experiences who are dedicated to the Networks mission and vision. The two ex-officio members are the President and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Vermont Health Network and the Dean of the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. Trustees are elected to serve four-year terms and may serve up to two terms. The boards role is to provide oversight of the Networks management in order to ensure that it is faithfully carrying out the Networks mission. The board is committed to being an antiracist board, aligning its board practices with those of the organization and creating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive board.

What happens when talented physicians work together as teachers, clinicians, and researchers? Academic health care that's both inspired and personal. With access to state-of-the-art technology, our physicians provide multidisciplinary care while teaching and training the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The University of Vermont Health NetworkMedical Group includes both faculty physicians, who practice at hospitals and clinics across the UVM Health Network, and community physicians, who care for patients throughout Central and Western Vermont and Northern New York.

The hundreds of physician members of The UVM Health Network Medical Group are not only improving the lives of patients in our own backyard and across the region, but their dedication to knowledge and discovery is advancing the field of medicine.

Through our affiliation with The University of Vermont, all hospitals within our Network will benefit from millions of dollars in external grant funding, which will support 308 research projects. A statement from UVM Health Network President and CEO John R. Brumsted, MD, who pledges that the health system will be committed to ongoing, careful and meaningful action in the effort to create a culture that is equitable, diverse and inclusive for our employees, patients and the communities we serve.

Our country is in the midst of a long overdue reckoning with systemic racism. For many, including me, this is both a personal and an institutional reckoning. As a white male, Im reflecting upon how privileged a life I have led and the fact that I have not faced barriers because of the color of my skin. As the leader of an organization that employs thousands and impacts the health of more than a million people in our two-state region, my commitment is that the UVM Health Network will be engaged in racial justice work and committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Our dedication to this task carries even greater urgency because we are a health care institution. We acknowledge the persistent and appalling racial disparities in health care outcomes, and we know that stamping out systemic racism is not only the right thing to do; its also at the core of our mission to provide high quality, affordable, accessible care to our communities. That means we must take on these challenges within our own workforce; in the care we deliver every day to our patients; and also within the communities we serve.

The fact is, change must happen in every organization, both now and into the future. It cannot be something we simply talk about or plan for some uncertain date, and it cannot be a one and done initiative. We must commit ourselves to ongoing, careful and meaningful action, and acknowledge that it is critical and overdue.

The journey for UVM Health Network has begun. Steps include listening sessions with employees who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color; education and training for senior leaders; a Diversity Workforce Assessment survey administered by an outside firm; and a third-party tool that enables staff to confidentially report potential violations of the law, our Code of Conduct or other policies and procedures.

I want to emphasize that we are on a journey; theres much more work to be done. At each of our networks affiliate organizations, there are or will be steering committees focused on equity, diversity and inclusion. In the near and long term, there will be additional leadership and organizational changes to support our efforts. Making and sustaining necessary change will be everyones responsibility, but it starts at the top of our network. We will be intentional and deliberate, and the lessons we learn will inform the way forward.

Anyone who knows me knows how deeply I care for the UVM Health Network. For more than 30 years, this has been my home, and I am proud of the work we do. But I also believe we have not done enough to prioritize equity, diversity and inclusion. We are facing that reality head-on now, and we pledge to do better. Our people are our most treasured resource, and when we pull together and commit to something, great things happen. Thats how I know we will make good on our promise.

Highly recommend! After a day of increasing discomfort, I woke in the middle of the night in severe pain. Of course it was a Friday. I contacted six dental practices - they either couldn't see me for weeks or did not accept my insurance. When I called UVMMC Dental Clinic, they offered an appointment within two hours. Staff were warm, welcoming, and kind. With x-ray and visual assessment, doctor identified a cracked rear molar (as I thought) and beginnings of infection. Within one hour, I was assessed, given local numbing medication (in excellent fashion, no pinching or burning), tooth was extracted, and after a brief observation time afterward I was on my way home. I am incredibly appreciative of the staff for getting me in right away on a Friday afternoon, and resolving the issue immediately. They are my new dental care provider.

WOW! As a former hygienist I was well aware that dentists are egotistical. That's just the tip of the ice burg. When I first spoke to the women on the phone, they seemed very kind and wonderful and I was very excited to have found an office with kind and competent front desk staff. Day of my appointment. I go in and the front desk staff are cold and rude. The assistant brings me to the operatory and is cold, rude, and rushing me. She is short with me with everything I say and not even trying to hide her annoyance with everything that I say. It did not make me feel very welcome and comfortable as a new patient. As a former hygienist with 13 years experience and having a night guard for the last 15, I need a new one and I had let the staff there know. the dentist I saw agreed with me that I should have a night guard made. i called the office a couple days after my appointment to set up an appointment to have an impression made and the woman was so rude and telling me "that's not how we do it" and bla bla bla. So i said ok. So then I send an email telling them I haven't had a night guard for a couple years and I really really need one. i then receive an email directly from the Dentist there, who clearly had his ego hurt from having a hygienist (how dare someone with a lower title recommend any treatment for themself), telling me "the patient doesn't make the treatment recommendations, the dentist does that". Basically dismissing my knowledge and need for this treatment because he wants to wait until he can personally recommend it i supposed. So i then responses with an email telling them I didn't appreciate the condescending attitude, and then I was kicked out of the practice. Very unprofessional, cold, and rude staff here. They don't make you feel welcome and they make you feel rushed. I do not recommend .

I was in a complete DENTAL CRISIS about to lose my top front tooth from a car accident and root canal years ago. I have EXTREMELY SEVERE Dental Anxiety to the point I have to take Valium. No dental insurance and knew the options weren't good. Implants are way to expensive and take months to a year to even be actually put in. I was horrified at the thought of a $700 "flipper" that would be clearly different from other teeth AND need to be removed for eating. I was going into severe depression over this. I got in really quickly for an emergency evaluation and treated the infection finally with a stronger antibiotic. They went over my options with me in tears, Dentist had amazing bedside manner and calmed me down and one of the options was a Newer option to take the tooth out and fix it up and GLUE it back in!! Looks better than it has in years and I was so grateful and more confident immediately!! Was painful and pricy but so worth it to not walk around with no front tooth!!! 4stars only because they do things differently and in the order and time frame they decide and that's a bit annoying. Hard for me also to have a different person as they rotate, but It is a teaching center so I get. Staff mostly were all wonderful and welcoming but the assistants/nurses seemed somewhat ANNOYED by my anxiety and need to take anxiety medicine...actually asked me NOT to take it for the next appointment?? I found that odd since it wasn't like we were having a conversation. Can't really talk while dentist working in my mouth. Was also during the height of Covid. Overall I feel like without this place I'd be on my couch unwilling to go out in public with no front tooth!! I definitely recommend it to ANYONE struggling with dental issues especially emergencies with or without dental insurance. As long as you can pay a significant chunk of the bill they will work with you to make payments!! Can take a while for new patients so try to make an appointment soon if expecting upcoming dental issues.

A deplorable dental practice. My filings look terrible, and still ache everyday. They mutilated my teeth after waiting for months to get an appointment. Don't waste your time!

Competent but nothing more. I have major dental anxiety, but needed to go in for filling replacement. They scheduled an exam, a cleaning, and scheduled the filling at the end of the exam for two months later, despite a filling being as quick as a cleaning. Their service is not adapted to patient needs. They did nothing to alleviate my anxiety. In fact, the doctor gave his prognosis with the chair reclined back so that he was talking down over me, and when they took x-rays the assistant used plates that were so badly fitted to my mouth they left an abrasion that lasted two days. When I complained, I was told that their practice is a teaching practice and my case would be too difficult or complicated for us to be a good match. Apparently they don't teach their students to deal with patients with anxiety or complex cases...I wouldn't want to be a student at a place like that either. They only get 2 stars because they did seem technically proficient, as much as they needed to be for an exam.

I just started going here. I had a cap cemented back in(don't know if it's cement or clue) after it came loose on my first visit. I went back today and had my bridge cemented back in also. Yes, seems like everything is falling out of my mouth all at the same time. This was old dental work that I needed fixed that I had done when I was a kid. The staff is top notch and very nice. Everyone I encountered was very good at there job and I didn't feel like they were rushing me like other places I've been to. They had a lot of good advice for me on how to go forward with fixing my bridge. Happy to find a place that I'm not nervous to go to and know that they will do a great job. The woman taking my x-rays made sure over and over that I wasn't in pain when she was taking them. I wasn't ever in pain, but she still asked over and over if the position of the devce was in a good spot before taking the shot. I've been to place where they could care less and make you deal with it. It's the little things like this that go a long way. Thanks for helping me with my issues and helping me get on the right track to having healthier teeth. I've avoided the dentist for a long time and feel more comfortable about going now.
