Permanent teeth will begin to grow around age 6, and with the exception of wisdom teeth, are all present between ages 12 and 14. The next teeth to grow in are the 12-year molars and finally the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth typically begin breaking through from age 17 and on. The total number of permanent teeth is 32, though few people have room for all 32 teeth, which is why wisdom teeth are usually removed.
Your front teeth are called incisors. The sharp fang-like teeth are canines. The next side teeth are referred to as pre-molars or bicuspids, and the back teeth are molars. Your permanent teeth are the ones you keep for life, so it is important that they are brushed and flossed regularly and that periodic check-ups by a dentist are followed.
Dr. Barbara Utermark provides a full range of orthodonticsand pediatric dental servicesto meet your needs, all in one convenient location. From cleanings and check-ups to braces and Invisalign aligners, we do it all.
Dr. Utermark is an Orthodontist for adults and children and we look forward to evaluating your familys orthodontic needs. During your first visit we will help you get acquainted with our office and learn about your familys orthodontic treatment needs. We understand that each patients orthodontic treatment is different, and we promise to give you the personal attention you deserve. Your first orthodontic visit will consist of an examination and discussion of potential treatment options. This important visit will address your orthodontic needs to determine if this is the proper time to begin treatment. If it is time to begin treatment, Dr. Utermark will recommend 'orthodontic records'. These involve digital orthodontic X-rays, digital photographs, 3-D models of the teeth and various measurements. Dr. Utermark then studies these records to present treatment options tailored to your needs.
As one of our orthodontic patients, you will be shown aesthetic options for tooth straightening in addition to traditional metal braces. These options include tooth colored ceramic braces and Invisalign.
As Dr. Utermark is a dual specialist in Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, your childs needs for braces as well as cleanings and other routine dental care can be combined at visits resulting in 'fewer trips to the dentist'. We know how valuable your time is and it is an added benefit to have Dr. Utermarks expertise in both areas for your childs care. We have a large percentage of adult patients who have always wanted orthodontics but only been able to pursue them as adults. The Invisalign option has provided orthodontic opportunity to many adults who would not pursue treatment otherwise.
