Dr. David St. Ledger is committed to learning. In 1990, he received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and minored in Sociology from The University of Scranton. He also holds and successfully defended his undergraduate thesis in molecular biology with two years of laboratory research. He received a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1994, where he was Vice-President and then President of the Student Council from 1992-94, received the Crest Award in Geriatric Dentistry, and multiple leadership awards from the University, including The Ella Marie Ewell Award, as well as from the American College of Dentists.
After dental school, Dr. St. Ledger spent a year in a general practice residency program at The Mountainside Hospital. He became an Attending at Mountainside Hospital in 1996 where he is a teacher and Clinical Professor, to present day. He is involved with the local schools for education and awareness during Dental Health Month. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, The American Dental Association,The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, an elected member by peer review to the International Association of Dentists and Physicians, and The Western Essex Dental Association, the latter of which he served as an officer for four years and additionally as President for 2002 and 2003. He was elected by Montclair Magazine as one of the regions Top Dentists for 2013 and again for 2014, 2015, and 2016 . NJ Top Docs recognized him in 2014 and 2015 as a Top Dentist for General/Restorative Dentistry .
Dr. St. Ledger is very active in advanced dental education. He is an alumnus of the world renowned Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education and Spear Education , an Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Scottsdale, AZ. He is currently involved in a continuum of learning as a Faculty Club member at Spear Education . In 2015, he continues to Mentor at Spear Education as a Visiting Faculty member, and is a Moderator for Spear Education's online content, a digital suite of virtual learning and sharing. Dr. Vanessa Ballentine graduated from Seton Hall University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She continued her education at Seton Hall University to complete a Master of Science in Biology, with central focus in Neuroscience. She then earned her Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry from Nova Southeastern University School of Dental Medicine, with honors in the field of Endodontics. Following graduation, she successfully completed a general practice residency program from Hackensack UMC Mountainside Hospital.
Since graduating, she has worked as a general and cosmetic dentist in family practice; offering the very best in dental technique, skill, and artistry to patients of all ages. Her passion for dentistry radiates through her charisma and enthusiastic nature.
In keeping with her commitment to excellence and dedication to optimal care, Dr. Ballentine is a member of the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association, and the Tri-County Dental Association. She consistently broadens her background in dentistry and enhances her skills through continuing education courses in multiple facets of dentistry including smile enhancement, implantology, and laser therapy.
Dr. Ballentine lives in Morris County. She is an avid animal lover and the proud mom of two Keeshond dogs. When she isnt in the office you can find her playing tennis, squash, piano, skiing/snowboarding or simply enjoying her time with family and friends.

Dr St Ledger is my kind of dentist. Professional, patient, willing to educate and explain, and entertain questions until I thoroughly understand. Plus, I am so comfortable before and after each procedure I have undertaken with him! Can't recommend Upper Montclair Dental highly enough-- tho they certainly don't need my recommendation at this busy practice!

My most recent visit went well i met with the second dentist at the new second office and she is nice. I am looking forward to when I go back again with her or my regular dentist. Whether for a normal check up or to have dental work done.

Dr. Valentine is an excellent dentist. Thorough and extremely professional. She cares about her patients comfort levels. The Bellevue Avenue location is handicap accessible. There is only one door step that has a rise before you enter the building. Fantastic patient service. Don't forget to wear your mask. 5/12/22

We are long time patients of Upper Montclair Dental, after fleeing from a very negative experience at another popular Montclair practice. If going to the dentist makes you nervous, then this is the dental office for you! Dr. St. Ledger's kindness, his low-key style, and his no-ego confident expertise have erased years of childhood dental trauma. We feel known, respected, and well cared for. We can't imagine going anywhere else.

My experience at Upper Montclair Dental Assoc - Lorraine totally exceeded my expectations. I came to the office for a 2nd opinion following a broken tooth that needed either implant or bridge and had the privilege to be treated by Dr. Ballentine. From the front desk to the dental assistant, I received nothing but positive vibes. I truly feel like Upper Montclair is a world class office that treats patients as humans with a high degree of humanity and compassion in addition to dental expertise. Dr. Ballentine was very professional and incredibly kind. She took the time to explain my options in great details with visual images to make it easier to understand. Although my options were limited, I was truly impressed by the time Vanessa took to offer me some short term and long term solutions so I would not go home with a tooth missing. In these days and age, it is hard to find a business that puts patient/client care ahead of sales. I walked in very insecure about my teeth and walked out with a smile. I will definitely be coming back to this office for my future dental needs and bring along friends family members and acquaintances whenever the opportunity presents itself. Definitely 5 stars! THANK YOU for making me smile again and for being nice people.

I have been coming to Upper Montclair Dental Associates for almost 15 years! The dentists and hygienists are excellent. They have a calming manner about them, as well as very welcoming. I am honestly never afraid to go to the dentist when I go there. I have always had a positive experience.
