Sedation and anesthesia can be used for a number of dental procedures both at the office or in a hospital setting and are a scary subject for many parents and patients, due to the fear of the unknown. We hope to ease your worries by outlining possible dental sedation plans. The overall goal of sedation and anesthesia is to provide the utmost comfort and ease to the patient. The type used depends on the patients age as well as the kind of procedure being performed.

The most popular form of sedation is nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. When inhaled, it puts the patient into a relaxed, euphoric state. Laughing gas is not intended to put a patient to sleep. Other forms of sedation involve administering oral medications or IV solutions, before or during the procedure. Common side effects of laughing gas include, blurred vision, dizziness and that your dentists once seemingly lame jokes, suddenly sound hilarious!

There are two types of anesthesia, local and general. Local anesthesia is provided in the office and uses injections to block specific nerves and numb the patients mouth at the site of the procedure. Local can also be combined with sedation to provide extra comfort for the patient, as they remain conscious for this type of procedure.

General anesthesia is administered in the office or in a hospital setting by a trained professional, such as an oral maxillofacial surgeon or an anesthesiologist, for patients who are having extensive work done. This type of anesthesia involves putting the patient to sleep, through IV drugs and/or gaseous anesthetics, for the entirety of the procedure. Children should be taken care of by a pediatric anesthesiologist, as they have specialized training and qualifications to provide the best care for this type of patient. Typically, the patient will meet with the anesthesiologist beforehand and go over the sedation plan. Afterwards, medication will be prescribed for pain and nausea. All of the care is done in one session and the patient is then allowed to go home.

It is of the utmost importance that the patients stomach be empty, anytime he or she is having a procedure done that involves sedation or anesthesia. During dental procedures, airway reflexes are impaired which can result in vomiting and can cause serious injury to lungs, especially if there are food or beverage remnants in the stomach. Fasting instructions are given to patients and parents prior to the procedure and should be strictly adhered to.

They have buildings but not enough doctors, specifically orthodontist. You start braces with them, you got stuck forever. Very often appointments get canceled, and very hard to get rescheduled your canceled appointment. Even though, it was not your fault, they canceled the appointment.

SO SLOW! What's the point of making an apt if we have to wait almost an hour every time we come? Also, STILL require masks...for what? Especially when they have community video games that all kind of snot nosed kids touch with their hands and there's absolutely no sanitizing in between. Pointless. Other than that, we do like the cleanings. Front office staff is also super rude.

Daughter hasn't seen a dentist for along time, went here to get her routine check up and cleaning. The tech did well with cleaning but the Dr. was to fast, just notes that she needed to go to an orthodontic and cared less about the few cavities my daughter has. Looking for a new place.

We love taking our kids here! No long wait to be seen and all of them get seen at pretty much the same time! Other places the kids came in together and we would have to spend at least 3 or 4 hours taking the kids to the dentist! Here we are out with all 3 done in less than an hour. Best place ever!

**1/2 Star. Waited over 30 minutes for an 8am appt, to find out they were not properly staffed. They did not inform us of this and made a 3 yr old sit in a car for no reason (not easy to entertain a young kid in a car waiting). When asked, the staff had no answer just said they didn't know how long the wait was going to be. Turns out the hygienist was late and for some unknown reason the staff couldn't relate that to us in a proper manner. Very disappointed with this visit and how unprofessional this office staff was. Simple communication to the parent of the what was going on is all that was needed.

I honestly can not understand where's lol the bad reviews come from, maybe people are just in such a hurry nowadays that they don't understand that at most dr. Or dental appts. You will most likely have to wait. However in my case that was not an issue at all..we arrived ten minutes early with all 4 of my children, (I still had to fill out paperwork for all of them) and within five minutes they were already calling back my first child. All in all, 4 kids had they're appointments all done takin care of with future visits scheduled (including one surgery appt. At children's hospital) in under an hour. WOW!! It was such a Super FAST experience I almost couldn't believe it!!! This is a Wonderful place to take children to see the dentist!!! I will never take them anywhere else again, I wish I would have found this place years ago!!! Love all the staff there, each person is so caring and kind and sensitive to kids' needs. I HIGHLY recommend!!
