I recently decided to become self employed and have not purchased dental insurance yet. Last week I had a dental emergency, and due to my lack of insurance I decided to try the U clinic. I have to say, l was a bit apprehensive based on some of the reviews I read here; however, my experience was terrific. Everyone I dealt with including the front desk staff, the student dentists and their supervising dentist were all kind, and very professional. At each step along the way I was informed about treatment options, potential risks and benefits of those options and costs for the treatment I chose. A big shout out to the students who treated me including: Helen Moon, Garren Riggert and Derek Thomas!

I wish I had gone to a professional dentist. The students assigned to me were strange, I didn't know if they didn't know how to talk to women or just weren't trained in being professional. Would not recommend.

Well the wait was a lil crazy. The waiting room was packed, they have 60!!!! Chairs abd students behind the car of Dentists. They are really nice. However the guy that took care of me was a 4th year, Dr Louder was nice as well. I DID NOT get ASKED OR TOLD THAT A CERTAIN PROCEDURE WASN'T COVERED So I get up to reschedule , I had to sign some paper then the lady at the desk said this is my portion to pay. NOT THE DENTISTS THEY DIDN'T ASK IF I WANTED IT OR IF I COULD AFFORD IT. Not looking like they teach them right. I hope they teach better, i will rethink my review

I had the most amazing experience here ! The student dallin thueson was my dentist and he fixed my Theeth! There was a hole from two cavities that fell out and he was so patient and very professional! Usually I am a little nervous to go to the dentist but he talked though the steps and was very caring! Alex at the front desk is the best too! She is so sincere and funny! I would recommend coming here ! I am so happy I have my smile back!

All white and male clinic instructors where all patients, students play by their rules. Not going back there for anything

Thank you for your consideration and kindness. I felt like a VIP all the way. No pain with all the gain. I love how many female dentists are being trained here, and my student Sara was incredible.

The requirements for qualification defy logic. Why does anyone need to be turned down by Medicaid, when Medicaid doesn't even cover dental for most Utah residents? Why aren't the legally binding federal and state tax returns you require sufficient? Or the bank statements? You are discriminating against the poorest, and neediest. Shame on you. EDIT: A personal response that completely ignores the issues raised. Thanks! The 50% off is the only way your students get access to mouths to practice on. Your business model and dental school wouldn't exist without out it. YOUR 90% off rates ARE denied to the poorest of Utahns. They are required to be turned down by Medicaid, and medicaid only turns you down if you make too much money. I didn't write this to be patronized, I would like to see this problem ACKNOWLEDGED and addressed.

3 visits, 7 hours and 100 dollars later teeth are cleaned. Billing was confused. Do not go here when you can go to a real dentist, another school, or groupon for the same price. It's a shame and a sham to be charging students for the worst service you can expect in the industry. Let me reiterate, 3 visits, 7 hours of my time and 100 dollars spent on a CLEANING.

dont use these people if you have any health issues, about a year ago i had to see a dentist in utah what a mistake that was , i wound up having some kind of an attack in the chair i was shaking and they refused to stop, if you value your health at all DONT GO HERE go elsewhere the u of u school of dentistry is a joke my cousin also used them and he had a full seizure in there chair he has never had that before using them its not a place i will ever use again if im back in utah i hope they take some advice and stop blaming people for shaking in chair and having a seizure disorder like my cousin has. anyone else has to be better, i used the center of dental professionals in the past as well when in utah and they did an awesome job so like i said find anyone else it will be WORTH your time to do so

Rude. Uninformed. For being a "Top School" I would of expected to have the information I needed and not be treated so rudely. My interview was with Harkomal Kaur and I have never met someone who spoke to me so rudely. I asked very precise questions when I called to set an appointment. I was told yes they can use another dentists plans. I was informed rudely that wasn't the case and the people who answered couldn't legally answer those questions. And when I told her so couldn't afford another $80 on top of what I just paid with another dentist if they could make an exception her tone almost immediately changed for the worst. I have called 5 other dentists and they all said there is no law against them knowing or giving that SIMPLE information and they all can use the other dentists plans. I'm a single mom and I'm just trying to find a better solution to fixing my teeth. This has been a sensitive subject for me for many years and was hoping I could not only have a better financial alternative but help the school as well. Never will I turn to U of U dental for help again and Will let everyone know what kind of an experience they can probably expect should they find themselves in a similar situation. This visit cost me a lot to do taking time off work for it. And I was treated like garbage. No sympathy. Uninformed. Rude. UPDATE: And then she put in my chart all I wanted was my two front teeth fixed. Which was NOT what I said. I said my primary is saving my two front teeth but I have a bunch of work that still needs done. Not only is she rude. Unprofessional. But a liar. Please don't go to this school for ANY help at all.

Not sure where the negative comments come from but my experience was cheaper and just as I could have imagined. It is a learning environment so it may take a bit longer to have things "re-checked" by a dr, but with the right attitude worth the cost savings.

I couldn't be more appreciative or happy with the care and skill level i have received at the University of Utah. My 4th year student " dentist" Philipp Lucshen was professional, caring, thorough, knowledgeable and skilled. I had, cleanings, fillings and in the process of getting a crown. My oral health was in need and i like many procrastinated because of finances etc. Phillip was the first "dentist " who explained the procedures that would get my oral health in line and also the cost involved. My teeth are thanking him! I am 63, have always exercised , had a good diet but always just did the bare minimum to my teeth which created some issues. Phillip is a top notch person who makes you feel comfortable and well cared for. I wish him well in his new profession and am seriously grateful for the great work he did and how he treated me. Sad to loose him as a dentist but confident in the program at the University because the teachers and assistants were top notch as well. Great experience overall!!!

I had a great patient experience here. It was a pleasure to be in the care of the student assigned to me (Kevin). He always explained every step of the procedure, gladly showed & explained the X-ray imagery on screen in great detail. I had some fillings done here and while it perhaps took a moment longer for a Dr. to come in and review the work it, was a very worthwhile & cost effective investment into my dental health. I will be back for regular care. The folks at the reception are also always friendly.

My First initial appointment was for April 16th, just to get there to be informed that my appointment was rescheduled without my knowledge to May 27th. Went to my first appointment to start the process of getting dentures, for them to tell me that it would be 4 appointments and about 3 months or so before I would get my dentures. So, I thought okay, that's a long time. But, I'll wait. Well, my 3rd appointment was scheduled a month after my second one, and the day before I was to go to that appointment it was rescheduled ANOTHER month. So, then I finally go to my 3rd appointment, for my student dentist to tell me that in just one more month my dentures would be DONE and I'd get to take them home. Well, today is the day before my 4th appointment, for my student dentist to tell me that this appointment is a "denture try in" that I WILL NOT be taking them home with me. That it's going to take ANOTHER MONTH before I can take them home and start eating and living a normal life again. It just BLOWS my mind, how COMFORTABLE this place is with just constantly blowing off the clients. Making them wait for MONTHS AND MONTHS ON END just to be told "Oh, you're just gonna have to keep on waiting". It is SO beyond frustrating. And I sure hope NOBODY ever has to go through this long of waiting to get their dentures and start living a normal life again.
