The University of Minnesota Comprehensive Care Dental Clinics feature dental students with undergraduate degrees who will examine you under the supervision of a faculty member, who will closely supervise your treatment. After the exam, you will be assigned with a dental student within a comprehensive care group for further treatment, which will also be under the supervision of a faculty member. Should you need more extensive or complicated work done, you may be referred to the specialty clinics, where dental school graduates train in a particular aspect of dentistry under the supervision of an advanced-trained faculty member.

Our teamsare dedicated to providing the best possible outcomes and care for children and adults affected by cleft and craniofacial anomalies. Our teams are certified by the ACPA and include surgeons, physicians, dentists, nurses, speech therapists, audiologists, psychologists and researchers who are leaders in the care of children and adults. We use state-of-the art imaging and treatment techniques to achieve the best possible comprehensive care. The University of Minnesota has been an international leader in interdisciplinary care for these conditions for the past 50 years. For more infomation and resources related to cleft and craniofacial team care, visit the ACPA.

Measuring outcomes is a critical part of ensuring success for our patients. We participate in the Americleft Project, a multi-centered collaboration supported by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and Cleft Palate Foundation. In addition, team members have active research in their specialty areas.

Wonderful staff, both hygienist and Dentist were exceptionally professional and caring, and front desk staff welcoming and efficient. Exam room followed strict COVID precautions and overall, in spite of the reason I was there, had a satisfying experience. I'm sad and surprised to see so many unsatisfactory reviews.

I went here as a new patient, a college student at the time, looking for a new dentist on my own for the first time. I got a routine teeth cleaning, and I told them I was looking to get my wisdom teeth out. One of the dentists said he would do it, no problem. I arrived the next week for surgery. I had two impacted wisdom teeth and two that needed a straight pull. When I arrived, he had forgotten which ones he said he would take out in the consultation. Once we finally got it sorted, he got to work on the impacted teeth. I was fully awake for the surgery. I got the maximum amount of novacane and was still was not as numb as I should have been. He proceeded to pick and pick at my mouth for about an hour; half way through, he called in the "head dentist" because he was having trouble with the procedure. The head dentist did not help, and told him to finish up the surgery and left the room. He kept trying, only for me to discover that none of my teeth got removed because he was afraid he was close to "paralyzing my face." One week later, I got a major infection and called back in. There was an utter lack of concern from this office. I had to be rushed to an oral surgeon and get emergency surgery due to the infection that was caused by this failure of a procedure. Do NOT go here.

After two rude phone calls with these people I decided to check their online ratings. Alas 2.0 with almost everyone talking about how rude and unprofessional they are. I still don't know how I got here because I could never have called a place with 2.0 ratings. I called the u of m school of dentistry with over 4.0 ratings and somehow landed here. Unfortunately as soon as I told the lady on the phone at school of dentistry that these guys were too rude she decided to be rude to perhaps to scare me away. But I will stick by the reviews of hundreds of people and run as far away from this place. I haven't even gone in yet and the lack of manners on the phone is overwhelming

While the dentists there are amazing at what they do, the billing office here is either knowingly submitting billing claims incorrectly, or wholly incompetent. When I was a patient here, I would have them pre-auth my insurance before every appointment and pay my portion up front. Then, weeks later, I would receive a bill for the EXACT AMOUNT I had already paid. Now, they've sent me a bill from THREE YEARS AGO that I know I already had pre-authorized and paid. Be wary of their billing office. They called me last month claiming they had a refund. It was a BILL, not a refund. I've notified my insurance of possible fraud, and refuse to pay a bill I know I'm not responsible for. Good luck.

Was pressured to get extra xrays done for a baby tooth that had never come out, not quite sure why. They didn't bother giving me the vest. Difficult to get cleanings, insisted on everything else first (lots of xrays, which they make the most money on) and not even to schedule a cleaning till after. I go to dentist just for cleanings, but am always forced to have lots of other stuff done first. I had thought this was associated with the dental school, like a clinic of their teaching staff, but found out later that one is the University of Minnesota Faculty Dental Clinic, which unfortunately doesn't take state insurance like all the other UofM clinics. This one, the Physicians Dental Clinic, caters to those 'with underlying medical conditions' and 'who need additional care due to physical or developmental disabilities' according to the UofM dental website. As another reviewer mentioned, curt front desk, which is a bit alarming considering who they are supposed to be catering to. Followup 2/28/20. Got insurance denial notice in jan for cleaning apt, although confrontational hygenist told me id have to wait till feb to make next apt for anything. Remember she didnt like my getting 4 cleanings a year at dental school, even if i was willing to pay for it and the dental school dentist said i needed it for my type of saliva so would be covered. It looks like she actually sabataged my insurance, besides waylaying me on appiontment. Back to the dental school for me.

How about you NOTIFY someone to let them know their 9am appointment is canceled BEFORE they rearrange their day and take time off work and drive an hour through traffic, instead of them showing up to only be told WHEN THEY ARRIVE that "Oh, our hygienist is out today, so we can't see any patients". I went in for a filling and ended up getting two smaller fillings done before the one I went in for. This was done over 3 months. When they finally did get around to filling the 3rd (the one I went in for) it took 3 different "dentists" to get the job done. And I'm talking 3 at the same time!! I'm on Medical Assistance and I need a monthly statement of each of my payments, I have asked repeatedly for these statements... Last one I got was in January! But they sure took my payments out of my bank every month!!

Only giving 1 star because one is needed for a post but it does not deserve one at all. Front desk team is incompetent. They will make it seem like you misunderstood them when needing help and will not hesitate to argue you with you over the phone. Manager (woman) is JUST as bad. I got wrong information about an outside referral (clinic and number) more than once and when I told the manager of this she did not take responsibility for her team's screw ups but instead blamed it on me for the misunderstanding. I have only been seen once there for a reason. The manager would interrupt me when trying to explain her front desk staff was rude. Do NOT go here, they do NOT care and show it over the phone with their lack of friendly personality and customer service. Go to the U of M School of Dentistry instead, WAY more professional and helpful. I switched my dental care almost immediately and got the manager's name to go above her head.
