He joined his father, Dr. Paul Nelson, at University General Dentistry in July 1985. He served as a dentist at the Tuscaloosa County Health Department, between 1985 and 1995 when relief assistance was required.

As a professional, his interests lie in all aspects of general dentistry. He considers himself a meat and potatoes dentist, providing basic dentistry to patients of all ages. Hes interested in and committed to developing long term professional relationships so that his patients become his personal friends as well.

Personal interests include the Tuscaloosa City Council Historic Preservation Commission, Alabama football, American architecture, Southern decorative arts, almost all types of music, water skiing and worship choir with the First Baptist Church.

I am overjoyed to join the team at University General Dentistry! As the daughter of a dentist and dental hygienist, I have had the unique opportunity to be part of dentistry my entire life. I understand that many people are fearful of the dentist and may have even had a previous bad experience. I strive to alleviate those fears by getting to know each patient in a relaxing and fun environment while providing the excellent care my patients deserve.

For my undergraduate education, I attended Maryville College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. Upon completion of my senior thesis at Maryville College, my research was published in the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry. I then attended the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry and earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, graduating with honors. Following graduation, I completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Before joining University General Dentistry in 2017, I practiced as an associate dentist for eight years in a group practice in Columbia, SC.

My husband, Paul, and I were thrilled to join the Tuscaloosa community in 2017 when he became an assistant professor in the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Alabama. In my spare time, I enjoy running, traveling, chasing our miniature dachshund, Jackson, and spending time with international college students in our church and with the Tuscaloosa International Friends program.

The 5 stars that I gave are not for University General Dentistry .But it is for the best Dentist I've ever had the pleasure to say that I have the best dentist. She is the rare find that we're all looking for in a dentist, experience, expertise and but with real compassion and a great personality and a true desire to help her patients. Her name is Dr.Kristin Reed and her assistant Ms.Leaann ..Dr.Reed is a 10 not a five and if you're looking for a awesome dentist ,Dr.Reed is the one you should see. As for the ladies in the office ,they are very good at their job. I've never had any issues or complaints with them.

I had a abscessed tooth and had to be seen. They really are AWESOME!! They called me back and got me in the office the same day that I called. I saw a different dentist but he was very good dentist too. So, I felt right at home and that I was being taken care of. I had to be referred to a oral surgeon and they got me an appointment that very afternoon with them. My x-rays had already been seen over. Thank you so much for helping me!!!!

I'm giving a one star rating for the rudeness and level of disrespect from an employee by the name of Kay she does the billing for insurance and her approach this morning was absolutely wrong. It's like she was going to make me pay out of pocket for everything when she's filing claims under the wrong insurance. Correct information was given 2 months ago and a week before my appointment this cause I received a bill in the mail and she still approach my talking about my insurance is in active. Staff had to make her leave the room / come back and apologize cause she wasn't going to apologize on her own free will. Dr. K. Reeds and Mrs. Leanne Thank you for trying to keep my day / smile bright.

Since I started visiting this dental practice almost 4 years ago, I've not had a bad experience. The staff is all polite and professional and even though they likely see hundreds of patients, they do seem to remember you every six months. Dr. Nelson is professional and he and his staff are very encouraging when it comes to home dental care. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a dental practice.
