Since 1896 the School of Dental Medicine has been educating students to take their places among the best dental practitioners, researchers and educators in our region, across the country, and even around the world. As we celebrate our 125th Anniversary, our accomplishments reflect the dedication and success of each member of the Pitt Dental Medicine family.

We are proud of our long tradition as innovators in dental medicine. Our first female student was admitted 121 years ago, and today more than half of our vibrant and diverse first-year pre-doctoral class is women. We nurture in our students a strong foundation in the biological, behavioral and clinical sciences and a belief in the importance of professionalism and life-long learning.

Half a century ago we pioneered the specialty dental care that we now deliver in our fully equipped Center for Patients with Special Needs. The Schools general dental clinics and 11 specialty clinics play an integral role in improving the oral health of the patient population of southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond. Some patients travel hundreds of miles to access the high-quality care our clinics provide every day.

Our researchers expand the horizons of knowledge and are internationally renowned for their groundbreaking developments in the areas of craniofacial genetics and craniofacial regeneration. We are identifying genes that contribute to complex human phenotypes, and are using tissue engineering to heal wounds and restore function and appearance to defects of the face and skull.

Every day, the positive contributions of our faculty, staff, residents and students demonstrate their commitment to our mission of advancing the future of dental medicine through teaching, research and service. It is an honor to invite you to find out more about our students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Unable to get through. What will it take for me to schedule an appointment? The first time I was transferred to a bot (AI) who said "I m sorry I m not ready to assist yet" and disconnected the call. After that, I called back twice and the automated system said " we are unable to take a call at this time" .

Can't say anything about the actual dental staff, but the front desk/receptionists are not helpful. I needed an emergent consult, called 4 times throughout the day and left a voicemail before deciding to just go in to make an appointment. Was told they don't check the voicemails and that the only way to make an emergency appointment is to call non-stop from 7:59am till about 9am and after that they stop answering phone calls. If you're going for an emergency, I recommend going somewhere else.

I accompanied my husband to the Montifiore location after referral from ER for the WORST DENTAL EXPERIENCE ever. The front office was unprofessional , impersonal, and unsympathetic. Worse still was the treatment from the SURGEON who offered NO SEDATION for an invasive procedure. The communication by all members of this office was awful. My husband experienced extreme pain during and after the surgery. Billing was a mess afterward, also. It is usual for oral surgeons to bill medically for some procedures. This office refuses to, though doctors are listed as UPMC as in network, claiming that their computer systems will only allow dental claims.

I had a broken abscess front tooth. I had pain and bleeding. I called and they took me right away the next day. They are knowledgeable and everyone was so nice and made me feel comfortable. The place was clean and sanitary. I would definitely recommend them.

I have been going to the Dental Clinic for over 2 years and paid over $10,000 but I had an emergency Friday with my front crown that they did and it broke off at the gum. I called and was told they did not have clinic on Friday so I asked if I could come in on Monday and was told that they were booked and closed the following 2 weeks for Christmas. I called back and never received a call back . I had to call a local dentist to repair and try to same my tooth which cost me quite a lot. I feel I should be reimbursed! So upset with them.

Besides not being able to schedule a convenient appointment, which I can understand, the fact that I cannot get anyone to even call me back about a current dental emergency is unacceptable. They are unresponsive.

They were so kind and professional! Treated me like I was their most important patient ever even though they were busy. I was in some severe pain. I drove to the PITT Dental Clinic from Butler and it was so worth it!

I had to give a 5 star to Kate my hygienist and Dr Herndon my dentist for being so nice and friendly. They are very gentle and always make me feel relaxed and welcome.

This place is a joke! They lie to you to get you in and then make you wait to tell you they can't help!

I went in to have two of my front teeth re-bonded. The original bonding had lasted 10 years. I was uncomfortable with the results....it just didn't feel right. In about 2 & 1/2 years the bonding on the front of the teeth started to chip off & the teeth became sensitive. When I went in the told me the bonding or "filling" is only good for one year & suggested I get caps @ a cost of 1,400$ The quality of work was poor & the dentist totally uninterested. Rather pay more for better work & someone who shows some concern for the problem & patient.

Most MONEY HUNGRY I've ever experienced in my entire life. Waste of parking and time ever. I have tremendous pain in my lower jaw. I would've rather went to the ER... I lost my job and I've paid them in the past and they treated me so grotesque The financial specialist patronized me... The worst experience ever And I'm still in tremendous amount of pain and lost time

Went here for 9.5 years, the first 8 years were great, the last 1.5 were out of a horror movie. They over schedule the dentist, so you wait in the lobby for an hour before you even get back in the room. Then the dentist is running behind and cuts corners and provides poor service. One time, no novicane was used, was in tears from the pain. Another time too much novicane was used, and the tooth was poorly fixed, had to visit another dentist and it took 3 visits to fix the horrible work this office did. Would never go here again, will tell everyone I know to never go here.
