Dr. Makarita graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1988, and maintains a private practice in McLean, Virginia with an emphasis on aesthetic reconstructive dentistry. He believes strongly in continuing education and is committed to keeping up with the latest techniques and materials to provide his patients with exceptional dentistry.
Dr. Makarita was awarded Mastership status in the Academy of General Dentistry. In order to achieve this, he was required to attend over 1100 hours of continuing education in all phases of dentistry, of which 400 of those hours involved participation courses and case presentations.
He is among an elite group of cosmetic dentists who have Accredited Fellowship status by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). To date, this prestigious professional designation has been awarded to only 67 dentists worldwide. Dr. Makarita is currently the only Accredited Fellow in the state of Virginia. To achieve accreditation, one must complete extensive advanced education in cosmetic reconstructive dentistry and must pass a rigorous Accreditation Board Examination. In order to become an Accredited Fellow, one must successfully present 50 clinical cases to the examining board. Fellowship marks the highest level of clinical achievement in the AACD (aacd.com). Dr. Makarita reached this status through a dedication to continuing education and the commitment to produce exceptional dentistry.
In addition, he has achieved Mastership status with the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), where he is a clinical instructor and regional director. Dr. Makarita is a Fellow of the International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics, a Master of the International College of Oral Implantology, a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and a board member of the International Asoociation of Physiologic Aesthetics.
Dr. Makarita was recognized internationally by winning numerous smile gallery awards with the AACD, including the prestigious Peoples Choice Award. His cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry has been featured twice on the cover of the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and he has authored clinical articles related to Aesthetic Reconstructive Dentistry, Dental Photography and Occlusion . He has been voted among the Top Dentists in the Washingtonian Magazine and the Northern Virginia Magazine for the past several years. Dr. Makarita is an national and international lecturer in the field of aesthetic reconstructive dentistry and Occlusion.
An Accredited Member has successfully completed the comprehensive Accreditation process, which consists of a written examination, delivering and extensively documenting a broad range of cosmetic treatment solutions for five patients and an oral examination administered by the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry.
By successfully completing this process, an Accredited member demonstrates a very high level of clinical skill and ability in cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Makarita successfully became an accredited AACD member in 2001.
Accredited Fellowis the highest credential earned in theAmerican Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). In addition to meeting the rigorous requirements of an Accredited member, an Accredited Fellow must successfully complete 50 cosmetic cases that meet Accreditation standard of excellence set forth by the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry.
By successfully completing this process, an Accredited Fellow demonstrates a continued ability and sustained commitment to deliver excellence in cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Makarita became the 39th member of the Academy to attain Accredited Fellowship status in 2005. Currently there are 49 Accredited Fellows worldwide.
The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), a professional association of more than 35,000 general dentists who are dedicated to staying up to date in the profession through continuing education. Dr. Makarita received the associations Mastership award during the AGD 2000 Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada.
The Mastership award is the highest honor available at the AGD and one of the most respected designations within the profession. To accomplish this goal, Dr. Makarita had to first complete his Fellowship in the AGD, which he received in 1996 and required 500 hours of continuing education. For Mastership, Dr. Makarita had to complete an additional 600 hours of continuing dental education in specific disciplines and 400 of those hours had to be in participation courses, for a grand total of 1,100 hours. As a recipient of the Mastership award, Dr. Makarita joins a group of less than 1% of general dentists who have achieved this honor.
Dr. Makarita was awarded LVI Mastership in 2006. The LVIM distinction is awarded to those who have completed the extensive Core Curriculum at theLas Vegas Institute for Advanced dental Studies, and have demonstrated proficiency after submission of three clinical cases. The cases are evaluated by a committee appointed by LVI, who look for a true understanding of comprehensive aesthetics, and functional dentistry. Each candidate must also pass a rigorous written and oral examination.
The program is designed to create and provide a learning and validation process where the applicant can determine if he or she has an adequate understanding of the restorative and neuromuscular concepts taught at LVI.
The objective of the LVIM program is to recognize those individuals who can provide a high level of comprehensive aesthetic neuromuscular diagnosis and treatment. It also recognizes their efforts to promote the advancement of neuromuscular dentistry.
As the number of LVI graduates treating musculoskeletal dysfunction of the head and neck increases, LVI has recognized the need to implement an accreditation process to assess competency, ensure continuing education knowledge, and maintain a high standard of care among those treating their patients with neuromuscular dentistry principles.
Dr. Makarita has won the prestigious Peoples Choice Award in the 9th annualAmerican Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD)National Smile Gallery Competition. Out of 270 entries, Dr. Makaritas work was selected for this award at the organizations annual scientific session in Orlando, Florida.
The Annual AACD Smile Gallery Competition awards winners in four categories based upon technical skill in cosmetic dentistry, including: Indirect Restorations, Missing Anterior Tooth Restorations, Single Unit Anterior of Posterior Esthetics.
Fellowship in the Academy forDental Facial Estheticsis available for professionals who are committed to the pursuit of excellence through continuing interdisciplinary education in the field of facial esthetics. They must have also attained recognition within their own respective professions. Dr. Makarita was elected to this organization in 2003.
Photography has always been a passion of mine since high school, with an interest in black and white darkroom printing and was the photography editor for our high school yearbook as well asco-editorat the Medical College of Virginia while in Dental School. I use clinical photography daily in my dental practice and during travelsmy camera is always with me. For many years I have had a fully functional darkroom where I would process my own negatives and hand print all of my black and white photographs, usingboth conventionaland infrared black and white film.All color photographs are shot with a digital Nikon D3 camera body and a variety of lenses.
One of my great passions is scuba diving and am alwaysamazed at the beauty of the undersea world and was determinedto learn underwater photography in order to capture and preserve the memories.Early on,a Nikonos V camerawith color slides was usedand now a Nikon D200 digital camera with a Subal housing and dual Nikon strobes is my equipment of choice. Most of my underwater pictures were photographed in the Red Sea, Egypt, as it is a beautiful site for viewing the many species of both coral and fish. While I cannot say I have mastered the art of underwater photography by any means, the journey to learning is both exciting and challenging.
I love to travel internationally andcapture the sites and cultures from my own point of view. Ihave photographed extensively throughout Europe, Egypt, Morocco and thoroughly enjoyed a safari in a private game reserve in Sabi Sand, South Africa.
Dr. Makarita is an avid scuba diver and enjoys underwater photography to capture the beauty of the undersea world. Most of the pictures shown were taken in the Red Sea in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Some examples of his photography is displayed on the walls of the office.
Dr. Makarita enjoys traveling both nationally and internationally and documenting his travels with black and white photography. He has been interested in this genre of photography since High School, where he took his first class. At home, he enjoys developing the negatives and custom printing the photos in his own darkroom. Many of his photos are displayed throughout the hallways and treatment rooms in the office.

Dr. Makarita is hands down the most knowledgeable top dentist in the DMV. He has been my dentist for 25 years, and I wouldn't trust anyone else. Together we customized and designed my smile. BEST cosmetic dentist! FREE consultation. Don't ever think it's all the same when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. It's not. My story: I consulted around the country with "fellow" credentialed cosmetic dentists. As a lawyer for 30 years, I fully understand how the credentialing process works as to cosmetic dentists, and how to research and find the best in the country for the job. I consulted in person in Florida, Maryland and Virginia...one consult fee was $800, while this consultation was FREE. I wanted the best, so researched nationwide options, as the "cosmetic" work I needed was complicated-including replacement of a baby tooth. Additionally, I am a perfectionist in every respect: color, shape, symmetry...the list goes on. I literally did years of research prior to making this jump. He is an expert in every factor--and I highly recommend a visit to Tysons Aesthetic Dentistry. I never do reviews--on anything--but you owe it to yourself to have a consultation with this office. Many of my friends had bad results from others that hold themselves out as cosmetic dentists....don't fall into the thought that it's all the same. Again--It's not.

I am very pleased with Dr. Makarita's work. His friendly demeanor and professionalism are excellent. I was truly amazed with the smile he gave me, the final product is stellar and exceeded my expectations. His assistant, Tania, is kind and made me very comfortable during the procedure. I had done veneers before with another dentist 4 years ago and I was unsatisfied with the work. I paid for 8 teeth and only 6 remained (the other 2 just fell out). I was gonna let that go but when I noticed my teeth starting to space out, leaving gaps, I had to do something. It got to the point I wouldn't show my teeth in pictures anymore. Dr. Makarita came to the rescue, assessed me, raised my gums, made my teeth whiter, and gave me beautiful teeth (and they don't fall out)! I Highly recommended Dr. Makarita to so many of my friends and family. I'm so grateful to having sucha talented person give me the smile I always wanted.

I recently got veneers, and could not be more pleased with how they turned out!!!! Dr. Makarita and his team were so nice and funny made my experience so comfortable. They always made sure I was well taken care of and completely happy. I am more confident with my smile and no one can ever notice that they are veneers as they look so natural. I came in with real bad teeth and left with a bright new smile, Dr. Makarita is amazing at what he does!!!! I would recommend him to everybody who wants to get their teeth done!!

Getting veneers was a big step for me because I was terrified, and I had a unique situation. Since I had a tooth pulled as a young girl, my teeth had shifted making the midline way off. Dr. Makarita was confidant that he could move the midline into a much better position, and he did! Tanya, is assistant, always made me feel comfortable and trusting, and Erica and Kevin were great too. I highly recommend this whole team.

I came to Tysons Aesthetic after being told from my regular dentist that my only option for fixing my chipped teeth and gum shape were veneers. Dr. Makarita took a look at my teeth and recommended a gum contouring and reshaping the bottoms of my teeth, which was significantly cheaper than had I gone with veneers (he even knocked a few bucks off the gum contouring)! I was also able to get my gum contouring completed immediately after my consultation! Dr. Makarita provided a genuine solution to my concerns, and he could have easily charged me for a more expensive procedure. I'm so happy with my results, and can't recommend Dr. Makarita enough! He cares for his patients and provides exceptional work.

It is always very pleasant with the entire office personnel. My smile is so beautiful! Dr. Makarita is truly the very best at cosmetic dentistry. He has an engineer's eye for perfection. I was examined by three other cosmetic dentists with their suggested treatment. When Dr. Makarita explained the process and showed me other complicated cases he had done I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Makarita is very patient explaining the process. He corrected my bite which was causing many problems including gum recession. I am very happy two years later! He truly is the best!!

Dr. Makarita is absolutely amazing. He literally saved my life. I suffered from severe jaw joint pains and migraines for years before I met him. I tried all sorts of things based on various medical advice and recommendations but nothing worked. It was a miracle that I met him in 2007 after receiving a brochure in the mail describing Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (tmj/tmd). He was very sincere, honest, empathetic and highly knowledgeable about my medical condition. He came up with a treatment plan and fixed the problem! I am forever grateful to Dr. Makarita for his help and feel privileged to be his patient. He is simply the best!

So here I am writing my first review ever, I just have to, because this is definitely the best dentist/specialist I have ever visited. Since I was a kid I go to different dentists very often because it's truly hard to find the right one for you. When I was looking over the internet for professionals who can do gum lift, I found Dr. Makarita, so I scheduled consultation. The doctor explained to me everything and because of my busy schedule he did the procedure right after consultation! Everything went great and his assistant/nurse Tanya is amazing too! They made me feel so comfortable and were checking on me all the time after procedure if healing is going good and I feel good. I can't be more happy with service they provide, the care, and the results !!!!!! I can finally be confident about my smile. I was looking for a solution for a severe TMJ issue. I didn't realize that it was my earlier braces and dental work when I was younger that actually contributed to the problem. I was referred to Dr. Makarita, who explained what was causing my pain and made the splint for my jaw that helped with the immediate pain. Since I really liked my teeth and smile, it took me a year to work up the trust and courage to take the next step for a more permanent solution. Despite my initial reservations, I'm very happy with the results and am so thankful to no longer have the TMJ pain. Thank you Dr. Makarita and team. You were right!

I came to Dr. Makarita after reading about his impressive credentials and stellar reviews. Previously, for months, I experienced my jaw locking, involuntary movements, tired jaws and severe neck and shoulder pain associated with TMD. After calling around and visiting many dentist who claimed to treat TMJ, I'm thankful to have met the real deal. This office by far exceeded my expectations in the following ways: 1. Communication - I was always able to speak with someone during business hours. At my free consultation, Dr. Makarita thoroughly explained my condition, practical treatment plan and showed me why and how my treatment would proceed. If I had concerns, Dr. Makarita followed up the same day. 2. Honest expectation -Because I never have gone though anything like this, it was paramount that expectations were identified allowing me to move though each process of my treatment plan successfully and without severe anxiety. 3. Personalization -All staff was professional, personable and inviting. This practice has a very intimate setting. I never felt rushed or that the office over booked. 4. Industry leading technology -I felt comfortable and safe especially during the pandemic. My office visits were efficient, and we were able to move forward with my plan as scheduled. I know that my case wasn't an easy or quick one by far. After treatment of my TMD symptoms, I decided to get a full restoration of my upper arch. My aesthetic concerns were a shifted midline, short misshapen teeth and discolored bonding. Dr. Makarita came up with a personalized plan which addressed my TMD pain and fulfilled my dream to have a gorgeous smile. Dr. Makarita is a master at his craft combining dentistry and artistry in the most precise way.

I'm too embarrassed to post before pics but I had VERY crooked chipped front teeth My teeth were my biggest insecurity ever and I would never smile in pictures or even feel comfortable talking to people because of my teeth. Was recommended Dr. Makarita and so glad I went to see him! From the beginning he was very careful and precise to make sure I would leave with the smile of my DREAMS!!!!
