Dr. Josh Merrell was born in Illinois and lived in seven different states growing up (Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Idaho, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania). He attended Brigham Young University, receiving a degree in Exercise Science and then went on to graduate from the Ohio State College of Dentistry. He has practiced in Whitefish, MT and most recently in Kelso, WA.
Dr. Merrell is a husband to Emily and father to Parker and Finn. Their family loves the outdoors, and they spend a great deal of time hiking, camping, skiing, golfing, and traveling. Dr. Merrell is an avid Green Bay Packers fan from his time spent living in Wisconsin and can speak Italian from his two years living in Milan, Italy!
Having moved around so frequently, Dr. Merrell knew from a young age that he wanted to find a place he loved, settle there, and make it his home. Upon visiting the Olympia area, he quickly fell in love with its beauty and personality. He is now excited to call it his home. He purchased Tyee Dental in 2019 and is proud to be a part of its long history of serving the Tumwater area.
As a dentist, Dr. Merrell most enjoys helping others gain the confidence and self-esteem that comes from a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile. He prides himself on helping people have a comfortable and pain-free experience at the dentist.Dr. Merrell is a participating member of the American Dental Association and the Washington State Dental Association.
She became part of the Tyee Dental team in 2011. She enjoys building relationships with her patients & helping them achieve & maintain healthy smiles. It is important to her that everyone knows how their oral health impacts their overall health.
Shawnna is happily married and they have 5 grown children between them. Hanging out with their grandkids is one of their favorite pastimes! They also enjoy boating, camping, and time at the beach during our beautiful northwest summers.
Meagan is a Certified Dental Assistant that has been with us since 2017. She was hand picked while still a student and continues to shine bright as our lead assistant. Meagan was born, raised, and still resides in Aberdeen, Washington. She likes hiking, crafts, and spending time with her parents with her finance, Scott. On the weekends she enjoys working at Billys Bar and Grill as a server. She highly recommends the Chicken Almond Bacon Salad. Yumm. Meagan is also an Adjunct Professor for Radiology Lab at South Puget Sound Community College. We are so blessed to have her excellence and expertise here at Tyee Dental to share with all our patients.
Kerri started in the dental field in 2007, before joining the dental field she worked for the public school system, she has an AA degree in Early Childhood Education. Kerri just recently joined the Tyee Dental family, however she and Dr. Merrell had the privilege of working together for another practice in Kelso, WA. She enjoys building relationships with her team and patients, and loves a good laugh. Kerri wants to make sure everyone feels comfortable when they come to the dental office. In 2012 she moved to Olympia with her two children, Ethen and Raven, who are now adults and has fallen in love with the area. She is now the proud Gigi of some sweet grandbabies. When Kerri is not at work she likes to get together with her family for BBQs and outings. She and Jon enjoy getting in the car and going for drives and finding cute little towns to walk and shop. They also love to get in their trailer and go camping. They just like to find the fun in everything!
At 50 years old, Pat decided to change her career path and enter into the dental field. Pat graduated from SPSCC and the dental assisting program in 2019. She has also been an adjunct instructor at the SPSCC dental program since 2020. Pat joined our Tyee dental team in 2021 and has found her home away from home. She and her boyfriend love to travel, go camping, hiking, and explore to the U.S. She has two children and 3 grandchildren with whom she loves to spend as much time as possible.
Kati graduated from SPSCC in 2017 with her AAS in Dental Assisting. She joined the Tyee Dental family in 2021. She enjoys talking to patients and helping them feel at ease in the office. Kati has been interested in Dental since she was a child. She loves her career as an assistant and learning new skills. When not at work Kati enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 kids. They like going on day trips and being outdoors. Their favorite vacation spot is Disney! Kati also loves to read and bake in her off time.

Although our values are timeless, we use the latest technology for our patients benefit. For example, our state of the art intraoral cameras give you a close, comfortable look at your dental health. We also use the iTero digital scanner to fabricate accurate, custom dental appliances and restorations, including crowns, Invisalign, and night guards. This technology has allowed us to largely eliminate messy, unpleasant impression material.

I was having a tooth pain and was able to get in right away and have the doctor x-ray and come to the conclusion that I don't need any more dental work. The staff here is exceptional

Dr. Joshua Merrell is very reasonable person with high work ethic. In the past few years, he did extra dental works for me with no charge. Shawna is the best dental hygienist I ever have. She takes time to explain what she is doing. More importantly, she makes dental cleaning so smoothly like gliding on skating ring. Also, everyone in the office is very friendly and helpful. I am glad that I have chosen Tyee Dental for my dental work. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs dental work.

I would recommend Tyee Dental to anyone looking for a new dentist. Doctor is great and the staff are awesome. I went there for an emergent situation when my regular dentist wasn't available and immediately decided that was my new dentist. Give it a try, you will be happy you did.

I haven't been to the dentist in about two years because of a very bad experience. I was really hesitant to trust a new place. But after my husband had an appointment here and told me how good they were with him I gave it a try. They were all so friendly and welcoming. I felt comfortable and happy at a dentist office for the first time ever!! I couldn't recommend them enough.

I had my first cleaning today with Shawnna and it was wonderful. She was very caring and gentle. A 5 star experience!!!! Shawnna, once again, was fabulous!! She is so gentle and is always making sure that I am comfortable. Dr. Merrell is so kind and personable. He really cares about his clients. And, the office staff is wonderful. They are so helpful and friendly. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! 1/26/2021 Today I had some fillings replaced by Dr. Merrell, and he and his team were very concerned about my comfort and making sure all was well as we went along. Then I went in for my cleaning with Shawnna. She did an amazing job, and I have never had anyone be as gentle and conscientious as she is. Leah (I hope I spelled her name correctly) helped me take care of all my billing questions with her usual friendly smile and demeanor. This is a great place for all your dental needs. They are wonderful!!!! 8/5/21 Another fabulous cleaning experience with Shawnna. Dr. Merrell is so personable and kind.. This is a great place and I'm very glad we found Tyee Dental for our dental care. 2/8/22 I had another cleaning and check up today. I always feel well cared for in the hands of Shawnna and Dr. Merrill. 8/25/22 Today was another cleaning and check up with my wonderful hygenist, Shawnna.
