Every year he goes well beyond the continuing education requirements of Minnesota, to ensure he knows the latest techniques in both periodontics and dental implants.

I do a great deal to stay current in dentistry but most important is understanding what the patient needs and providing it to him/her in the most esthetic and comfortable way. Im here to give my patients the best periodontal and implant outcomes possible.

Growing up with a dad who is also a dentist, Dr. Smith knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue a dental career. With dentistry, Dr. Smith gets to have the time and energy to devote to her family, while still pursuing her passion to serve and care for others. Dr. Smith was drawn to Periodontics, in particular, because of her love for the surgical and artistic aspect of it, as well as the fact that it is very evidence-based. She is very passionate about educating patients and helping them to achieve their oral and systemic health goals.

The University of Iowa periodontal specialty program is quite diverse placing a heavy emphasis on current research and techniques in periodontal cosmetics, bone regenerative therapy, dental implant treatment, and traditional periodontics.

Research While attending the University of Iowa, Dr. Skinner studied the benefits of bone grafting to preserve jaw bone following tooth extraction. Advances in bone grafting have dramatically increased the number of people who can enjoy the benefits of dental implant treatment.

Dr. Skinner is originally from Clear Lake, Iowa. He is married and is the father of three children. Dr. Skinner enjoys many water and outdoor activities, as well as participating in his childrens activities. He and his family are very grateful they have made Minneapolis/St. Paul their home.

Dr. Lowe feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to practice the dental specialty of periodontology. The unique combination of biology, engineering, and art drew him to the field. Dr. Lowe focuses on communication with your dentist and using the latest techniques and technology to achieve the most esthetic outcome. Patients can expect a detailed review of their dental health and the pros and cons of available treatments, as well as special attention to the specifics of their case. Priority is given toward empowering patients through education on prevention and long-term oral health.

ResearchThroughout his education, Dr. Lowe pursued research in oral cancer and jaw developmentwith world renowned oral pathologists, Michael Rohrer and Raj Gopalakrishnan. A foundation inhealthcare research and volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission led him toward the scientificand surgical aspects provided by periodontics.

Advanced Training & SkillsThe periodontal specialty is known for its focus on esthetics and overall health. Techniques and procedures unique to the field include regeneration of lost gum tissue and bone. This is significant as natural tissue is brought back to its original state rather than being replaced. Dr. Lowe has had an additional three years of training at the University of Minnesota in diagnosis and treatment, soft tissue grafting, dental implants, and bone grafting. The dentists at Twin Cities Periodontics limit their practice to periodontics, setting the stage for optimal esthetics and long-term health and maintenance.

TeachingDr. Lowe enjoys teaching and spreading his enthusiasm for periodontics. He has been an instructor at the University of Minnesota Dental School and has taught general practice residents at the Minneapolis Veterans Administration. His varied clinical experience has expanded his expertise in the latest surgical, regenerative, and implant placement techniques.

Dr. Lowe enjoys running, marathons, biking, cross-country skiing, swimming, kayaking, fishing, rock climbing, tennis and trips to the boundary waters. Most of all he enjoys spending time with his wife Allison, son, Sam and daughter, Sydney.

Dr. Malek is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. This signifies that he made significant achievements beyond the mandatory education requirements of the specialty of Periodontics and Implantology.

Dr. Malek earned his general practice degree from Misr International University in Egypt. There he was class president and graduated with high honors, giving the graduation speech for his entire class. Upon graduation he was awarded the Medal of Scientific Excellence by the Egyptian Dental Union.

Then Dr. Malek completed his Periodontal Residency Masters Degree at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). CWRU is nationally recognized as having an excellent periodontal surgery & grafting program, as well as a top-notch implant surgery center.

Research While at Case Western Reserve University he did research regarding the link between oral cancer and periodontal disease. He was one of three finalists who presented their research at the Midwest Society of Periodontology meeting in Chicago.
