As a pediatric dental office, we strive to meet the unique needs of children, and we are committed to family-centered care for infants, children, adolescents and special needs patients. In accordance with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, our mission is to establish and maintain the highest standards of clinical excellence and competency.

We are committed to providing excellence in total oral health care. We will create an environment that encourages preventative care from infancy through adolescence and communication with families. We recognize the uniqueness of every child and the right to express this individuality.

We believe that it is a privilege to treat children, and that we have a unique opportunity to make a difference in their lives. You are a vital member of our team and we encourage your ongoing participation

We will continually seek ways to minimize childrens apprehension to dental care through our words, and other behavior management techniques. It is our mission at Tucson Smiles Pediatric Dentistry to treat each child as if they were our own.

Pedodontics is the branch of dentistry dealing with the teeth and mouth conditions of children. Pediatric dentistry is the specialty of dentistry that focuses on the oral health and unique needs of young people.

The leading causes of cavities are a diet of high sugars and lack of brushing and flossing. The longer your child chews on their food, the longer the residue stays on their teeth, the more acid forms and the greater the chances of cavities.

Wow!!! Every single one of the office staff here were so cool! Very helpful and kind and respectful. Very amazing with my kiddo - making her feel 100% accepted and understood with her own concerns at the ripe age of 11! Good job ladies!!! I highly recommend this office!!!! I've had plenty of dental visits with kids, seeing as I've had 6 kids in those chairs and by far this office has been the best all around....and of course it's with my youngest kiddo....lol at least she gets supreme treatment

Doctors excellent. Reception staff not so. Been going to them since 2018 if I remember right. Insurance needed to be updated for appointment. Called me at work, told them couldn't talk. Called again. Said couldn't talk. So sends me a text saying they will cancel appointment if its not updated before appointment. Called them told them, feel free to cancel appointment. Its not like there are no other dentists in Tucson. We have a new dentist and appointment.

We just went today to get my sister fillant, and they responded by "Yeah, if you have a simple cough, you can't come, we have to reschedule it..." and my mom kept saying that she just drived a while away just to get here, and the caller said "Yeah, I understand..." and that goes on for about 3 minutes and then my mom just says bye and hangs up. Unbelievable that the woman on the phone did that. Tucson smiles needs to fix that. Otherwise it's an okay place.

Used to be great. Not anymore. My son (3 currently) went here when he was still 2/2.5. Absolutely loved it, great experience. He had an appointment yesterday and was excited to go to the Dentist. My wife took him there, arrived approx. 5 min before appointment, and waited in the car, as instructed by the signs/reporting instructions for COVID/dentistry. She waited a few minutes past her appointment time when someone came out to greet her and bring them in for the appointment. However, they stopped her short of even entering the door, when they noticed my 4 month old in tote. When asked why my wife couldn't come in with the 4 month old, she was told "our dentist doesn't like a lot of foot traffic due to COVID". She was then "reassured" that she could sit in the car with the 4 month old, while our 3 year old son went into the facility with complete strangers to have his teeth examined/cleaned. Again, they "reassured" her that if he called out for her or they needed her, that they could use "walkie-talkies" to the front desk staff, and that staff would come grab her from the parking lot. She then asked if she could call me, to which the person helping her said "well how long is it going to take"...which is ironic, because they didn't come to escort my wife until after the appointment time had passed. So not only does my 4 month old infant not walk (foot traffic statement), but per the CDC, the infection rates and transmissibility percentages of COVID in that age group are so incredibly low (1-1.5%, sometimes lower). The facility was concerned of a 4 month old transmitting COVID to a staff member or other patient in the back exam/cleaning rooms, and furthermore, they were worried about her transmitting it to another patron in the waiting room. That's correct, my wife couldn't even wait in the waiting room with our infant. Lastly, it's likely illegal for them to even suggest this, as a 3 year old cannot provide consent, which may have needed to be given during the exam/cleaning. I asked the office manager if there was any actual evidenced based reasons for their decision of this that she could provide me, she couldn't I work as a primary care medical provider (not a dentist) in a busy family practice clinic. There are several people in our waiting rooms, (wearing masks, socially distancing, etc.) as well as a lot of times, multiple people in the exam rooms..to include infants. Guess what? No cases of COVID have EVER been traced back to that. If infants were such a mask, why are there ZERO state mandates for them to wear a mask, and ZERO mandates for infants to wear a mask on plane travel where they're sitting 6 inches away from someone else, let alone 6 feet. I can't see this as anything other than discrimination. What do single parents do? Or parents where the spouse is deployed to a foreign land? They're just supposed to "figured it out" based on an entirely emotional and non-scientific decision by the owners/dentists? Needless to say, we will be taking our business elsewhere and telling every last person we know in our community, to NOT take their children there. Maybe they'll rethink their "protocols" and base them on facts and not feelings.

We had a fantastic experience at Tucson Smiles today! My daughter was VERY nervous, and Dr Hishaw expertly talked her down, to the point where she willingly sat in the chair on her own, and smiled through most of her cleaning! She even went to the back without me and took x-rays, no crying. Everyone in the office is fantastic. I got great tips on keeping my kids' teeth healthy (as a parent of two, and someone who values my own dental health, I actually learned some new things today). The best part was we got to see Dr Hishaw on her birthday! Everyone we saw today helped turn a potentially bad experience into something incredibly positive--so much so that my daughter is already asking when she can go back. Thank you!

The most compassionate, hard working team I have ever worked with. We have a 4 year old who needed some work done, and Dr. H was very patient and explained everything step by step, while making us parents, who were very nervous and scared, feel calm and assured. They are great with kids and do honest work. I am so thankful to have found Tucson Smiles.
